《Sure Thing, Commander ✔︎》6

A wide grin spread across Ahsoka's face as she silently thanked Rex. She tried to spin the blaster on her finger once more but it fell and clattered on the ground. Rex flinched as it landed and Ahsoka squeezed her eyes shut, embarrassed.
"Here let me" Rex insisted, picking up the handgun.
He put an index finger where the trigger was and demonstrated how he quickly spun it on his finger. He did it again carefully showing her how it was done. Ahsoka rolled her eyes with a small smile. She knew he was just showing off. She stared at his amber eyes as they wandered around the room. They were kind and warm. They made Ahsoka feel safe. Suddenly Rex looked at her and Ahsoka looked away hiding a slight blush.
"You try," Rex said, tossing the pistol to her.
Ahsoka caught the gun in her hands and studied it for a moment. She copied what Rex had done and spun it on her finger. This time it didn't slip away and Ahsoka was rather pleased with herself.
"You catch on quick" Rex smirked looking into her light blue eyes.
"Master Skywalker would say the same thing..." she trailed off.
She thought about her former master. What he was like before he turned to the dark side. He had been a great master, and an even better friend. Ahsoka wished she could just go back to the days when life was simple. When the two of them were off fighting droids and bringing peace to the galaxy. With the occasional company of Obi wan and Rex. She felt as Rex put a gentle hand on her shoulder. He must have noticed.
"He's gonna be okay Soka" he implied, "We are going to find him and bring him back"
"I hope your right" Ahsoka admitted, "I just don't think he's gonna come back willingly"
The two stayed silent for a moment. Neither knew what to say next. Rex began to rub her arm, as a comforting gesture. Ahsoka sat down, her back against the cool wall of the ship.
"Why? Rex," she asked, "Why did this have to happen?"
Rex shook his head, "I don't know"

"I miss the days when we were all on missions together" Ahsoka pointed out, "You, me, Anakin, and Obi wan"
"I do too," Rex whispered.
"Do you remember when we first met?" she asked the clone.
Rex smiled, "Like it was only yesterday"
"I was sent by Master Yoda to be Anakin's apprentice" Ahsoka recalled, "It was at a war zone on Christophsis and they were requesting back up"
"I remember that Master Skywalker gave you the nickname "snips" and you hated it" Rex laughed.
"And then I claimed I outranked you" Ahsoka remembered, "And you said that experience outranks everything"
The two sighed recalling the memories they would rather go back and relive.
"Remember when that crazy scientist released the Blue Shadow Virus?" Ahsoka asked Rex, "And we thought everything was fine until the droid let it out"
Rex's face went pale and he flinched at the memory, "The virus got in the safe room and we were trapped. We lost many good men that day." "I thought I was as good as dead"
"I felt so weak but we had to stop the droids" Ahsoka remembered, "We saved all of Naboo from that virus"
"Senator Amidala was tending to the sick men and you were trying to stay positive" Rex recalled, "You got so weak you fell and..."
"You caught me" Ahsoka finished.
The two gazed into each other's eyes, getting lost. Rex studied Ahsoka's beautiful eyes, they were like the ocean. They were the color of the markings on his helmet. He felt himself drawn to them, wishing to see them everyday when he woke up in the morning.
Ahsoka cleared her throat and Rex was shaken out of his trance. He rubbed the back of his neck and scooted a little closer to Ahsoka. She hesitated before laying her head on his shoulder. Rex felt a warm feeling fill his body and all he wanted was to wrap his arms around her. He wanted to keep her safe. From the other clones, from Anakin, from the empire, and any other thing that could hurt her. He slowly put an arm around her and pulled Ahsoka closer to him.
"Oh, do you recall when my people were taken to that slave planet and we tried to rescue them?" Ahsoka asked, "But we all got caught"

Rex nodded, "Master Kenobi and I were forced to work in the mines and beat by electric whips if we didn't work"
Ahsoka looked up at the clone, "I was put in a cage like an animal and electrocuted with the stupid collar"
Rex rubbed Ahsoka's shoulder, "You should have never been through that. If I ever see those slaver scums I'll kill'em"
Ahsoka hid a small grin. Did Rex care that much about her? She couldn't help but wonder if he cared about her as much as she cared about him. She had never had a serious relationship, after all it was against the Jedi code. But was there really a Jedi code anymore? She had never felt so safe with someone in her life. All of this was new to her.
"I'm glad we aren't in that terrible situation anymore" Ahsoka muttered, laying her head back on Rex's shoulder.
"Me too"
Rex and Ahsoka sat there, just enjoying being with each other. A light drizzle had begun to fall outside and Ahsoka could hear the soft rumble of thunder in the distance. She shivered as a cool breeze flew through the ship. Rex pulled her closer and she felt the warmth of his skin on her side. It felt as if electricity was powering through her body and destroying her negative thoughts. Being this close to him only made it stronger.
All of the sudden lightning struck and thunder roared close to the ship. Ahsoka jumped and buried her face into Rex's shoulder. He looked at her with caring eyes.
"Not a fan of thunderstorms?" he asked.
Ahsoka shook her head, "It just scared me"
"We can sleep on the ship tonight," Rex suggested, "It might not be as comfortable as the shelter but it'll do"
"Thanks Rex" Ahsoka smiled.
Rex stood up and gathered some bags from the closet. He tossed them over to Ahsoka and she placed them in a row. Ahsoka anticipated that he had gotten them to use as pillows. Rex finished and laid down, his head on the bags. Ahsoka had been right.
She laid down as well and turned away from him. Rex was confused. Just a moment ago she was lying her head on his shoulder. Doesn't one do that if they have feelings for you? Now she was turned away, like she was ignoring him. He felt hurt, and the thoughts that poured into his head only tore, and made it worse.
"What happened?" he blurted out.
Ahsoka looked over at him, shocked. She didn't say a thing, as she didn't know what to say.
"What are you afraid of?" he asked, "Breaking the Jedi code? You aren't part of the Jedi order anymore." "In fact there isn't a Jedi order anymore"
"No that's not it" she mumbled.
"Then what is it?" he demanded, a little more forced than he would have liked.
"If we do this, become an "us" thing" she started, "I'm afraid I'll lose you"
Rex was at a loss for words.
"The empire is hunting us down" she pointed out, "They probably have put huge bounties on our heads" "If they catch us they'll kill us"
"That's why we are here isn't it?" he pointed out, "To go into hiding and stay a safe distance away from them"
"Yes but they'll be searching the entire galaxy for us" Ahsoka muttered, her tone full of sadness.
"They won't get us" Rex declared, "I'll make sure of it"
"Rex you-" Ahsoka started.
"I promise" he interrupted her, "As long as I'm around I won't let them lay a finger on you. If I get captured, they can torture me all they want, even kill me. But I won't tell them where you are"
"Don't talk like that!" Ahsoka cried, "Your not going to get captured"
"I don't care that they want to kill us" Rex pointed out, "The only thing I want right now is you. I want you with me, wherever I go. I don't want you to ever leave my side"
A sad smile spread across Ashoka's face and she laid her head on Rex's chest. She listened to the beating of his heart, hoping that it would never stop. She was terrified of what was to come. But for now here she was, with the one person left that she truly cared for.
