There's an AU I've been meaning to try for a while, so here it is, hope you like it XD

Enjoy.

In this world, people are bound to one another by fate. That sounds cool and all, but it's not your typical "red string", or tattoo, or whatnot. In this world, you're born with a mark, one that only you can see. It shows the first place that your significant will touch you.

The catch was that it was skin to skin, and only with their hands.

These seemed like stupid rules and every now and then Gold scoffed at the thought that it was even a thing. Whoever came up with the rules was a little too specific, what if you never touched them directly with you hands?

Supposedly from what his mom had told him, when you found this other person, you could temporarily see their mark, before they faded away, from your and their sight.

That was a relief, Gold thought that if he had to look at this mark for the rest of his life he'd probably die.

Gold ran his fingers over the mark on his cheek, he almost wanted to laugh as he did. The mark on his face was almost a perfect hand-print.

It wasn't proven, but most people thought that the color of the mark represented the emotion of the other when they touched you. Gold's was mostly pink, which was thought to have meant love, but also there were smudges of yellow and purple. He wasn't quite sure what those colors meant, but he wasn't all that concerned. When it happened, it would happen, he just hoped that whoever he was "destined" to be with worked out well.

Gold was starting to get annoyed. Most of his friends had already found their soul mates, but he was lagging behind. He flirted all the time, but none of them ended up being the one.

"Do I have to go?" Gold whined, leaning back in his chair, his phone held up to his ear.

"Yes! My sister wants me to go, but I don't know anyone else there. You have to come, Kris already turned me down." Gold's friend Silver pleaded through the phone.

Silver's adopted sister Blue had invited him to a party she was throwing. Apparently Silver was having a tough time imagining that he would be able to socialize with her friends.

Usually Gold was all about partying, but he just wasn't feeling it today. His hands lazily traced his mark while he thought about it, "How many people?" he asked, he didn't feel like socializing either right now.

"Six, not including me and you." Silver said calmly. That didn't sound too bad. They were a little older than them, he knew, but not much, so it wouldn't be that bad.

Gold let out an exasperated and exaggerated groan, "Fine," he sighed, "but you owe me."

"Gotcha, thanks." Silver said hanging up on him, the party was tonight, so he'd have to get ready soon.

Gold pulled his car into Blue's driveway. Approaching the door, he could already hear laughter coming from inside.

He assumed that he was the last one here, it wasn't a formal party, so he didn't exactly have to be here early. He doubted that anyone besides Silver would mind anyway.

When the door opened, he was greeted with the boisterous voice of Blue, "Hey, you're Silvy's friend, right? Glad you could join the party!" she dragged him in by the hand. She was a cute girl, he wouldn't have minded if she had been the one he was supposed to be with, but judging by the fact that she grabbed his arm, he already knew that was out of the question.

It wasn't really one of those big college parties that you hear about, it was more like a glorified hang out, and Gold was more than happy that it was.

He recognized Blue who had pulled him in, and Silver who was leaned against the wall drinking punch in the back, other than that, he had to go off of Silver's descriptions of people to identify them.

He assumed that the one in the red cap, laughing loudly was Red.

Next to him was a small blond who looked very fragile standing next to the taller male, Gold guessed that was Yellow.

On the couch there were two older looking people that Gold couldn't recognize.

He was cut from his thoughts when Red decided to announce, "Hey guys wanna try a game?" he sat down with a couple of the others in a circular formation, the two on the couch joined in.

Blue groaned and sat down too with Silver, "He does this every time we have anyone new over." she told Gold as he sat next to her.

"Don't ruin it!" he whined, "Okay so you guys know the drill, your name, one fact, and your mark." Red finished.

Gold felt a little uneasy, he didn't really tell people about his mark, no one was supposed to. It was an unspoken rule, because that could supposedly alter the fate that had been decided for you.

He guessed it couldn't hurt though.

"I'll go first." Red started, "I'm Red, I'm going into engineering, and my mark is a hand on my wrist." he gestured to his wrist, implying where the mark that only he could see was placed.

"And that's basically how it works. You try newbie." he looked at Gold.

The black haired male took a deep breath, "I'm Gold, I like to skate and gamble, and..." he paused for a second, "hilariously enough, my mark is a hand print on my face." he stuck his hand where his mark was and chuckled a little sheepishly.

The looked at him for a second, silence ensuing, before Yellow spoke up, "What are the colors?" she asked.

"Pink, Yellow, and Purple." he replied plainly, he didn't know what it meant, hopefully they would know.

"Pink means love of course," one of the two older people commented, "Yellow means shock from what I've heard, but I'm not sure about Purple, I've never heard of that color being on a mark before." she commented, "by the way, my name is Daisy." she smiled softly at him.

"Maybe it's because the first touch they share with you will be a gentle touch to the face." Yellow tried to sound optimistic.

"Or maybe they'll downright slap him." Silver chuckled and prodded Gold with his elbow.

A couple more people went, he got to know Daisy, who was the sister of someone who hadn't arrived yet, Bill, a tech nerd that was the same age as Daisy, and the rest of the gang. Then a small knock at the door rang through the house, just over the laughter.

"Hey Gold, can you get that?" Blue said after introducing herself and her mark, "It's probably Green."

"Yeah, gotcha." he grunted and stood up, making his way to the door, hands tracing his face again absentmindedly. It had become habit now.

He opened the door, "Hey you're Green, ri-?" Gold paused when a tall brunette made his way through the door. He had a stone cold look on his face, and a stoic air about him, but something more than that tugged on Gold's chest, and he couldn't quite place it.

After realizing he'd been staring much too long, Gold stepped out of his way as he walked past, Green muttered a small, "Thanks." as he made his way in.

He sat down on the couch, Gold made his way back to the circle.

"Hey Green, we're playing that game! It's your turn!" Red grinned, Green scoffed at him, "And there's no way I can talk you guys out of it this time, is there?"

"Nope." they all said in unison and the brunette rolled his eyes.

"Green, I'm currently in Biology, and..." his eyes caught Gold's and held them for a second as he said the next words, "I don't have a mark."

Gold's breath hitched in his throat, how could someone not have a mark? He was sure that everyone was born with one. To live life and know that you didn't have a soul mate, it must be hard.

But then again it must be nice, he didn't have to worry about who you got with. There were pros of having a mark, but he supposed there were pros to not having one too.

"It doesn't bother me though, I don't need a mark." Green smirked, bringing the mood of the room back. At the comment though, Gold's heart sank a little.

Everyone dispersed, Gold learned that Daisy was Green's sister, they looked alike now that he thought about it. But those eyes, they didn't share the same eyes. Green's had flashed with regret when their eyes had met, they were strong, beautiful eyes, and not to say that Daisy's eyes weren't beautiful, but it was a different kind of beauty.

Gold caught a glimpse of Green sitting at the dining room table, and he decided to join him. There was something alluring about Green, something that piqued the black haired boys interest, but he couldn't place it.

"Hey" Gold greeted as he sat down on a chair next to the taller man.

"Hi, Gold, right?" he asked with a quirk in his eyebrow.

Everything about Green caught his attention, from the way he shuffled in his seat to face Gold, to the way that his eyebrows furrowed as he asked the question.

Gold had assumed that he was a icy person, judging by the look on his face when he walked in, but Green was actually a little more laid back than he had originally gathered. He just supposed that he didn't like parties, kinda like Silver.

"Punch?" Green offered handing him a plastic cup.

"Thanks." he grabbed the cup taking a drink. Luckily, it wasn't spiked or anything. From what he had gathered, either Yellow or Bill had dissuade Blue from spiking it.

"So, how old are you?" Green asked, taking a drink of his own punch, "I'm twenty three." he looked at Gold.

"Twenty." he replied, the people here weren't that much older. Bill was around twenty seven from what he gathered. Daisy wasn't much younger than him.

Talking with Green, he started noticing more. The way his eyes glinted a little as he talked, the way that his mouth curved into a smirk every now and then, Gold couldn't deny that Green was a fine example of a human being. He was gorgeous, in and out.

There was a lull in the conversation, and he knew it was weird, but he couldn't stop staring. Green was quiet compared to everyone else at the party, except Yellow of course, but when you did start talking to him, he held a pretty decent conversation.

Gold found himself drifting forward, his impulse control was wearing thin. Maybe it was the buzz of the party life in the room. Maybe it was the way Green looked at him. Maybe it was his frustration with himself.

He put one hand on the arm of Green's chair and one on the back, he leaned further, leaving his seat a little. He captured Green's lips with his own, the older man going stiff.

The back of the brunette's head touched the back of the chair, Gold could feel his soft spikes of hair, and he pressed a little farther.

The black haired male didn't notice the room growing quieter as he reveled in the feeling he was experiencing. He pulled away slowly. It had only been a couple seconds, but it had felt like a beautiful eternity.

Green's eyes were wide, flitting here and there as he searched Gold's expression. Gold smiled a toothy grin at him.

The older man stood up quickly, and before Gold could process anything, he found himself staggering sideways, a shock wave of pain passing through his face.

Green stormed up the stairs into what he could only assume was a guest room.

"Damn!" Gold cursed, rubbing his cheek. In all honesty he wasn't mad at Green for slapping him. He was mad at himself for being so stupid. Why would he do that? Green probably felt terrible, and the only thing Gold got off with was a slap to the face.

"Hey, are you okay?" Red asked, putting a hand on Gold's shoulder, "You gave Green quite a scare. I've never seen him act like that before. What happened?" he questioned, calmly though, Red was loud most of the time, but when he needed to be he could get serious.

Without paying any mind to Red's words, Gold bolted up the stairs after Green. Approaching the door, he opened it slowly with a low creak. He had no right to be up here after angering Green, but he felt that he had to.

"Hey." he called softly into the dark room. He could see Green's figure sitting on a bed in the room, he was hunched over, his hands in his hair.

Gold made his way towards him, sitting down next to the man. The bed creaked a little under his weight. Sitting next to him now, Gold could hear faint sniffling, and it broke his heart.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what's wrong? Please don't cry. Please." Gold wrapped his arm around Green and nuzzled his face into his shoulder.

"Why would you do that?" a choked voice broke the silence.

"Hmm? I did it cause I love you." Gold confessed, there was no use hiding it now anyways.

"Why? I don't have a mark. Why would you make me love you?" he asked, his voice stern but quiet at the same time. Suddenly, everything came into perspective for Gold, and it made him sick.

Having a mark meant you were destined for someone, them and only them, so to not have one must be a little depressing as it is. But not only that, falling for someone with a mark just meant that it was never meant to be.

Gold's stomach twisted, "I'm so sorry, I don't care about my mark, or who's on the other end. It's wrong. My-" Gold cut himself off, his hand flying to his cheek.

Glancing at Green, Gold lifted a hand to sift through his hair, a small pink mark showing up. His mind flashed back to the kiss, Green's head had knocked against his hand. He hadn't paid mind to it, but now he knew why Green had thought he didn't have a mark.

Wait, if he could see Green's mark, "Green, look at me." he grabbed Green's chin and lifted his head to look him in the eye.

Green's eyes fastened themselves on Gold's cheek, "Wow, that's a weird looking bruise." his concerns from a minute ago temporarily pushed to the side as he inspected the black haired boy's face.

"Did I hit you that hard?" he asked, his hands tracing the pink and purple mark.

Gold chuckled, "I deserved it, but that isn't a bruise. If you can see it, then there's no need to worry." he held Green's hand in his own, the emerald eyes of the older man flashed with something that Gold immediately recognized. Fear.

Purple meant fear.

Green was scared. Scared that it wouldn't work out. Scared that he didn't have a mark. Scared that Gold didn't love him back. But that didn't matter now.

"Crazy enough, you do have a mark. Right here." Gold poked the back of his head playfully, "Guess I wasn't the only one being stupid." he laughed.

"You're an idiot." Green mumbled, his usual blank face taking over again, "But I guess you're my idiot." he smirked again.

As they sat there, comfortable in each other's presence, the marks faded from each other as if they had never been there, but it didn't matter, because they already knew what destiny had in store.
