This one is a little bit shorter, but in all honesty I really enjoyed writing this one, it was a great concept that I hadn't thought of before and when I was writing it I really felt into it. It's one of the best I've written in my opinion.

"You find anything on the escapees yet?" a tall man in an overcoat leaned on a desk, one arm supporting him, the other in his coat pocket.
"Not yet." a clearly younger male with brown hair replied with a sigh. He picked up a mug of coffee sitting on the edge of his desk and took a large gulp. It wasn't hot anymore, more of a lukewarm, but he drank coffee nowadays more to keep himself awake than for the satisfaction.
"We need information, Team Plasma's Ghetsis is still at large and we need intel, Lack-two." the older man urged. The younger one rolled his eyes at the use of his code name in the office. He only really used that name when he was out in the field, and despite being an agent for the International Police Force, most of his work included office work now.
He'd become accustomed to field work, but sitting in his office now at this ungodly hour was killing him.
He glanced over at a clock on the wall. 3:54 A.M.
"Well Looker, I've gotta go, my wife is waiting for me at home." he packed up his suitcase, closing his laptop and placing it inside.
"I understand, have a good night, La- I mean Rakutsu." Looker waved to him as he left the building.
The car ride was long and boring, Rakutsu was glad that he had drank coffee beforehand, and he felt relief flood him as he pulled into his driveway.

Pulling out his keys seemed like second nature now, as did everything else he did as he opened the door to his house.
"I'm home." Rakutsu called into the house. The lights were on, even at this time in the morning, and he could hear sizzling coming from the kitchen.
He shrugged off his coat, hanging it on the rack, a yawn stretching it's way across his face. He groaned in a stretch and made his way into the kitchen. It was a long night, or he guessed it was morning now. Days had seemingly become meaningless, what with Ghetsis on the run and Looker constantly on his back.
"Hey Baby, smells nice." he stepped behind the woman who was cooking, sliding his hands around her waist. He nuzzled his face into her neck, closing his eyes.
She was the reason he did all of this. He needed to keep her safe. He couldn't quit his job, because he needed her. As an Ex-Team Plasma member, he couldn't let her fall into the hands of the International Police. He couldn't let them take her away.
"What's cooking?" he mumbled lazily.
"Breakfast. Bacon and eggs, some pancakes too." she hummed, lifting her hand to rub his head. He felt her soft fingers sift through his hair in circular motions, massaging his scalp and making him relax.
He placed his own hand over hers, his fingers tracing the wedding band that adorned her ring finger. He smiled against her, he really would be nothing without her.
She made his life worthwhile.
...
She made his life miserable. She could tell. He came home at outrageous times, bags under his eyes, yawning, stretching, trying to keep himself awake.
She didn't understand why he didn't sell her out? Why did he keep working a job that made him miserable? Why did he do this all for her? She couldn't tell.

She felt his hands lazily trace her wedding ring as he leaned on her. She loved him so much, and she had reason to. He saved her, hid her, showered her in affection, and what did she do in return. Nothing. She couldn't do anything.
"Faitsu... Thanks for all that you do." She felt him mumble against her skin, she let out a small gasp. Rakutsu leap up and turned her around, "What's wrong? Did you burn yourself?" he looked her over, assessing her with a worried look.
"It's nothing, I'm fine, sorry. I didn't mean to worry you." she cupped his face in her hands and kissed his forehead. He had so much to worry about, she wished she could do so much more.
"Thank goodness, I don't know what I'd do without you." he put his forehead on hers sleepily. He stepped away from her to let her continue cooking, opting to lean on the counter and watch instead.
"Sometimes I wonder why you care so much." she croaked while plating the food.
He grabbed her hand, making her stop what she was doing, and he pulled her to him, "Baby, don't ever say that, please. I married you because I love you, not because I felt bad, not because I think that you need me, but because I need you. I'm surprised that you married me of all people, a person so close to the people who are after you. I love you with every fiber of my being. You're the reason I wake up, the reason I go to work, the reason I live. And I wouldn't be able to live without you, okay? So don't ever ask why I care."
Tears fell from her eyes and she hugged him, planting a tender kiss to his lips. It would all work out. It had to. For him, and for her.

World Story: Biographies of Extraordinary People
Important note: I’d like to thank Dr. Buller for their advice on dialogue by their critical review. And I’m on a one-month break to post the first revised chapters on Scribble Hub. Please stay tuned! Even in faraway worlds, every folk had a story, and monsters came in numerous shapes and sizes. However, heroes never existed in this otherworld. Even the most idealistic understood this deep within. But as they abandoned their humanity at times, they quickly regained it. It was not that they became human again. They always were. So what happened when the monster devoid of humanity appeared? Well, the “heroes” sought to slay it at all costs either way, lest it would be the end of their stories. A portal/isekai fantasy that I wanted to deconstruct some elements within. Expect a whole ton of references and dialogue because I’ll deliberately write it more like a light novel. The last thing to consider is that Japanese names in my novel will come with kanji/hiragana characters within parentheses. The same goes for any other derived from non-Latin writing systems. It’s because none of the names I write will be accidental or random. They’ll all have meaning. New chapters Monday to Thursday at 11:00 PM (GMT+8), though sometimes I can’t. Credit for the cover art goes to HWPerfidy. She’s a freelance artist on this site, and I’d love anyone who shows her support.

Hello I am a first time author writing this because I was sick of reading books that I never enjoyed and it has always been my wish to do something like this, to act upon my imagination and create something I enjoy. I may not be good at this and there could be a lot of grammar problems, but please bare with me as I stride along the path of an author! Please be warned about my novel. The first chapters are the crystallization of my first ever attempts at writing, I believe the story flow gets better as the chapters progress.
