《[Adrift] WilburSoot X Reader》Chapter 17 - Suspicion

Y/n wakes up late the following morning. The sun is blasting her through her bedroom curtains. Of course, the one day she really needed to sleep in and the sun decided to come out.
"Morning sunshine," A sudden voice chuckles at the sound of her movement.
She rolls over to see her phone still sitting out where she had left it the night before.
"Wil...?"
"I'm surprised you didn't sleep in longer," Wilbur remarks through the device. "And also that your phone didn't die,"
"What time is it...?" She murmurs, rubbing her eyes sleepily while sitting upright.
"About noon," He tells her. "Sleep well?"
"Well enough," Y/n goes to her bathroom to glance at her mess-of-a-morning-self for the first time that day. "So...what are you doing on this overly-sunny Sunday afternoon...?"
"Well, as you know, my schedule is completely booked," Wilbur's tone is filled with sarcasm. "I've just hardly have any free time at all-"
"Okay, I get it, you're sad and lonely and you want me to come over," She laughs softly.
"I mean..." He's obviously smiling. "...If you want to..."
"I'll consider it," Y/n is also smiling now. She exits the call screen to check her notifications from the following night. "HOLY SH*T!"
"What?!" Wilbur becomes instantly concerned by her yelling.
"THE AUDIENCE FOUND ME!" She exclaims, scrolling through her seemingly-endless Twitter notifications. "WIL I JUST GOT 3K FOLLOWERS! I'M GONNA BE FAMOUS!"
Realizing that she wasn't actually upset or in trouble, he laughs at her reaction.
"Are you dying?!" Tommy bursts into the room, obviously upset.
"NO I'M GONNA HAVE MORE CLOUT THAN YOU!" Y/n spins around to face him with a large smile on her face. "Finally!"

"Wait did you want them to find you?" Wilbur asks.
"No, but it's funny now that they did," She responds.
"I thought you were dying!" Tommy says angrily. "And you say that I'm the one that's gonna get you kicked out for noise!"
"Sorry-not-sorry," Y/n nudges him playfully in the arm.
The boy glares at her a moment before exiting the room in a huff.
"Is the child angry now?" Questions Wilbur in amusement.
"He'll get over it," Y/n hops back in bed, scrolling through Twitter. "Oh my god I'm gonna get so much clout,"
"I'm just glad you're not upset over this," He adds. "They aren't being- like- mean or anything are they?"
"Not really. It's mostly just banter right now,"
"Tell me if they start being assholes,"
"I will, don't worry," Y/n starts smiling again in amusement. "Do you want to do a movie night later?"
"How about you come on stream with me tonight?" Wilbur suggests instead. "While we're playing Jackbox,"
"Can I still hide part of my face?"
"Of course you can. I'm not gonna force a face-reveal on you,"
"Then it's a yes," She laughs. "What time are you streaming?"
"8 o'clock,"
"I'll be there,"
After talking a little longer, they hang up the phone. Y/n quickly finishes up her morning routine so that she can start editing.
"Tommy can use my office for a bit?" She asks when spotting him out on the couch on his phone.
"Yeah sure. I'm not streaming today or anything," He responds before taking a bite out of his toast. "You're working again already?"
"I've already been home for a day anyway, I might as well get back to it," Y/n shrugs while beelining it for the room.

"Are you gonna eat something for breakfast?" Tommy adds on before she can get there.
"I'm not hungry yet, I'll grab something later," She assures him with a small wave before disappearing into the office.

Tommy knew when something was wrong with Y/n. He had lived with her for months and grown up with her during the summers. The signs weren't obvious to a lot of people, but he still knew. One thing he knew was that she never ate when she was upset.
He goes to the kitchen and makes two pieces of toast before knocking on the office door.
"Come in," Y/n's voice replies.
Tommy walks in and sets the toast-plate on the edge of her desk. "Here,"
"Oh...thanks Toms," She flashes him an uneasy smile, but turns back to her screen without touching the food.
He lingers there for a minute before continuing. "So...what are you working on?"
"I need to edit a vod for Quackity," Y/n replies without looking at him.
After mumbling a quiet 'okay', Tommy finally leaves her alone again. He didn't want to pry, not after they had just made up after their last fight.
So instead he decides to text Wilbur and pry for information there instead.
> Tommy: Have you noticed anything different about Y/n?
> Wilbur: I don't think so. Is she okay?
> Tommy: I don't know, I'm trying to figure it out. Did she tell you why she went back to America?
> Wilbur: She kept deflecting when I asked
> Wilbur: She's coming over tonight, I can ask her again then
> Tommy: Thanks
Tommy puts his phone away and lays back flat on the couch, staring blankly up at the ceiling. He could tell something was up.
But hopefully Wilbur could figure out what was wrong.
