《The Ship That Went to Sea》Chapter 2.4

The last of the creates was loaded and Tornas turned toward the town of Goldhaven now bustling with activity. A day on land could do him a world of good. She had always loved the day time in the cities. She would street preform and once the crowd was big enough try and gain support for her forest. The crowd usually dispersed shortly after but she nearly always got enough gold to keep them comfortably for the night. Not that it mattered of course, she could keep them comfortably either way. He hummed the song she had given him in his head. A tune that followed him around. He walked past shops and taverns. He thought of going in but it really was too early and besides he wanted to show Sezjeck that he could be good, that he wouldn't need to sober up in a longboat. He walked up streets towards the center of town and arrived in the main square to see many market stalls and people milling about. Maybe he could preform, everybody liked an acrobatics show. He found a spot in front of a store front beneath a street lamp and whistled loudly. Several people turned towards him at the sound. Once enough people were looking he leaped into the air tucked into a quick somersault and landed in a hand stand. A few in the crowd answered with minor applause. He hopped about on his hand switching from one to the other, did several pushups and then bent his legs down in front of him and flipped back up to standing. The crowd was appreciative and he collected a few coins which he quickly tucked into his pouch.

“what significant prowess from the drunken monk.” came a snide and sarcastic voice. “so good to know you will be able to make your living now you won't be sailing with us.” Etheldred the quartermaster sneered.

“Sezjeck and I spoke, I'm staying on for the next voyage.” Tornas returned trying and failing to hide his contempt for the half elf.

“Well if it was Sezjeck that spoke to you I doubt he got the point across. He is much to soft with you.” the quartermaster drew closer. “To put it plainly you are not welcome on the ship. You are a nuisance and a liability and the only thing you can be counted on for is to get into the spirit supplies.” Etheldred said

“Yes but the Captain does find me at least mildly amusing so at least I have that going for me. Also I am the reason we have spirit supplies in the first place” Tor said, subsuming his sadness with bitter sarcasm.

“We are in port before a voyage Esmerelda is not the captain unless she is elected so tonight.” Etheldred sneered.

“But that means you're not the quarter master.” Tor cut in and smiled with self satisfaction.

“It does not matter. You are sloppier by the day and even if you do sail with us you wont last long you drunken pathetic waste.” Etheldred spat.

Tornas picked up his quarter staff spun it deftly around his back and through the air then with both hands on one end and swung it squarely down and stopped just at Etheldred's shoulder.

“You know I don't like drows. I've had a few too manny negative experiences with them so if you value your bones unbroken I'll need you to steer clean of me.” Tornas growled

“Don't you know the punishment for assaulting an officer of your ship?” Etheldred threatened.

“As you keep reminding me the ship doesn't have officers just now, not till the election tonight. I'll see you at the Pig and Bell.” Tornas lunged at him to see him flinch and then walked away.

Etheldred looked after the man as he walked away to a few cheers from the dispersing crowd. If Tornas were to stay onboard and Esmerelda were elected again things might be complicated.
