《Changing Monster》4.Creatures

The sounds were so overwhelming that I tried to remove my hearing, but I could not. I tried to separate the voices in hopes that it might help. I managed to get the low constant humming sound apart. And I had limited success with others as they were non-continuous. I think all the sounds are made by creatures. I could not see any creature here. That would mean that I may be able to hear a creature without seeing them. The sounds were becoming less loud and crisper as time went on.
I examined my arm again. It had a sizable crack just below the arm. I tried to move my fingers back and forth, and I was able to do it. I was also able to close my hand into a fist with some difficulty. The crack was not much of an impediment to the hand movement. But it was reducing the strength of my arm. It did make much sense as I have somewhat similar cracks all over my body; At every connection of the body parts. It might not be able to hold the sword, but the broken arm might be able to grip something smaller, like the tip of the spear that the Beast used. My defective hand might still be usable.
After I was done with all the checking, I decided to move from there. I picked a direction in the clearing and moved there. Later on, as I moved some distance. I saw something move towards me, I immediately stopped and moved towards one of the long brown pillars. The creature was smaller than the Beast and moved like the critters. It was eating the green patches on the ground while moving forward. I stood still and did not move. I did not want to fight it, because if I lost my other arm. I would be defenseless.

I started hearing the creature. As it got closer, I heard more sounds it was making. It was so near me that we could strike each other. It completely ignored me and started moving away from me. I wanted to move after it to study it as it was the only creature that could move to completely ignore me. I decided against it as it might still be dangerous.
This time my hearing improved a lot, and I could discern individual sounds. Most of the sounds were very low and unclear, but some sounds were loud, and I felt that they were very close to me. I did not feel like engaging in any creature. I made myself smaller by sitting, So creatures like the Beast could not see me directly. No creature came near me for what felt like a long time. I noticed that the place was getting dimmer as time passed. I did not like that. If this continued, then it will become like the place I came from. Suddenly a blur came from behind me and left me behind. It did not make any noise and was at least as large as the previous creature. Are all the creatures here dangerous?
As it continued to get darker, I heard a scream from behind me. The tone was similar to the one that the critter made when I hit it. It might mean that other creatures were fighting. This might be a good opportunity to find out how strong creatures here are without actually fighting them. I heard the scream again. I decided that I should be careful and started moving towards where the sound came slowly.
When I reached the source of the scream, I found the largest creature that I ever saw. It stood on four and had two nasty tips coming from the top part of its head. As the creature moved, I saw a spear sticking from its side. I immediately ducked as I knew the kind that attacked it. After a while, another spear struck the creature, and it screamed. It moved around, and the new spear fell. It left behind a dark spot on its body. The creature continued to make sounds. Later on, just as I was expecting a creature that looked like the Beast came. The beast-kin did not have a spear and it started screaming at the larger creature. In response, the creature stood up on two limbs and shouted back. Two more of the beast-kin with spears were coming from behind the creature encircling it slowly. The large creature got on all fours, and as it looked like it was about to charge the unarmed beast. one of the beasts from behind jumped on the large creature while holding the spear near the tip started to stab it. The creature started moving, trying to get the beast-kin to fall from its body. As this was happening, the unarmed beast-kin moved and took the spear on the ground. The beast-kin on the top fell soon after. But, it did not matter as the other beasts moved to cover it. As the creature was going to attack the downed beast-kin, the other two started to attack it, distracting it.

As the downed beast-kin recovered, The three beast-kin started pushing it back and attacking it. The large creature did get a few hits in before it broke and fell. When it happened, the beasts jumped on its body and started tearing it with their mouths and eating it. They continued doing this until it got dark. Then they left the broken body there and moved away. I moved closer to the body to get a better look. Most of the flesh from the side was gone leaving the hard parts which looked similar to my body. That got me thinking. Did every other creature had a fleshy body covering its main body? If they did, where was mine? I tried eating the flesh like the beasts. But as soon as I put a piece of flesh in my mouth, it fell. That did not help. Despite that, I felt that I got closer to understanding what I am.

System Only Gives Me Useless Gifts
Li Yun grew up with a system that gave him useless gifts. He wanted a reward that could prove the existence of the system, but ended up with abstract gifts like culture. Without physical proof, he was stuck wondering whether his mind was truly sane, all the while dealing with the reality of life. How will the "useless" system help Li Yun navigate medical school, hospital politics, criminal cases, treasure hunting, farming and cooking? Author's Note: This is a slice-of-life novel about a doctor with a mission-type system. It's written as a faux modern Chinese novel, so there are many 1-off characters and episodic mini arcs. Just a bit of warning, the tone of the story is very different after the childhood arc and jumpy as it chronicles Li Yun's life. I'm trying to make it less apparent in the rewrite, but there are still a lot of time skips. RR is the rewrite version, no set schedule. See webnovel for OG. scribblehub is a combo of both . I recommend scribblehub since it has pictures. Copyrights of the novel and cover are owned by Chocomug. Novel is free to read and download for personal use, such as offline reading, only.
