《RELINQUISH》Chapter 5

“This is not the same as I expected!” I yelled to no one. Laying down in my bed, while there is nothing that I can do for about two weeks after the incident.

Our departure schedule has been postponed for about a month because of the same reason... What do they call it again?

The… The Arrival Day.

Yeah. That’s the day when those lightning strikes half of the entire human population right on their asses. Giving some of us the power equal to twice or even more normal human strength as well as those identical glowing glassy swords.

Everyone was too excited about it. Especially after the one news that spread, of how someone with a disability miraculously healed his own long lost limbs.

Oh, they have a word for this thing…

Yes! Regeneration. Like that Axolotl… But how they grow wasn’t that cute at all.

It's gross!

I once accidentally watched three videos of how their bodies regenerate on social media, and I hated them right away.

Like super super gross… Gore… I hate it!

All of this inhuman super power… They called themselves the “Carrier.”

Not such a good nickname though. Because they didn't explain about what they were actually carrying. The Carrier of what, huh?

Sins?

But that’s all for it. I don't want to hear them showing off all those things… And it's such a waste if they don’t even know how to use it… Or for what purpose should they use it. Not that I know, but no one talks about such an important thing anywhere on television.

And if you still don't understand why it's important, there's actually one obvious reason...

Because this kind of world doesn't need anything like magic and superpowers. We are just human after all. We were born without power as this is indeed related to our nature. As the only being that shouldn't have abilities beyond common sense.

Or else…

Like a floating corpse that I saw a week ago…

Or the news that talks about several prison break cases, releasing hundreds of thousands or even millions of prisoners somewhere around the world. In addition, half of them are also carriers.

For now, they were just hiding…

But who knows when will they decide to start the chaos.

Some countries have gone through a lot of turmoil. So as China but not as bad as India. Many terrorist groups have also got what they really need…

An absolute power to control people…

It’s even funnier here, in Indonesia. The first three days, everyone gave praise and thanks to their respective gods. But right on the fourth day, almost all mini markets and churches have been robbed and burned by the same people. Then I think that I'm just lucky because I live in the most neutral city in Indonesia.

but I don't know for how long I can enjoy this serenity…

And that’s it! I've had enough bullshit for today. I need to go somewhere else… A place that accepts my escape.

Yes… Internet cafe.

~~~~~
Right in the middle of the day, I walk alone along the road.
Maybe it’s because everyone that is a non-carrier prefers to stay indoors? Except me. Damn… I still want those swords though.
Entering that building full of hope, the atmosphere is different than it was a week ago. Now it's full of bad boys… Or thugs?
While walking further into the room, the operator looked at me with eyes as if to say “Another Carrier?!” But yeah, I hope so.
Looking for the most comfortable chair, I sat there while waiting for the computer to reboot itself. Reaching my phone, calling for Deo if he wants to join in a match with me.
Then he yelled. “Say what!? You want to take me to the most dangerous place in this whole damn city? Are you dumb?!”
“You're making this conversation sound quite disgusting, but… What do you mean the most dangerous place in the city?! Don’t be denial! We were born from here!”
“Daniel… Stop joking around. I heard that the place has now become a hive for a gang of some thugs. So don't you dare to go there, okay? We still can play later, don’t you think? Or else I will call Fanya.” Deo threatened me.
“What can she do about it? It’s nothing!”
“She can literally kill you if she wants to.”
“I see…” I think that actually makes sense.
“Awh… But the computer is already on…”
“The what?! So you're in that room already?!”
“I've been sitting here for a long time.” I said it with pride.
“So you've seen all those thugs…”
“Uh… Yeah…”
“Okay, I’m done. I’m calling Fanya right now, good luck with that.”
“Wow wait… Dude, stop. I’m leaving!”
“Just be hurry, you dumb.” Deo hung up the phone.
What's wrong with these people? So just because they have power, it doesn’t mean that they can stop me from having fun… Right?
Hopping from my seat, I bumped into one of the big sized thugs.
Oh god, please mercy…
“What the fuck are you doing, kid?” Said by someone wearing tight black pants, necklaces and bracelets piled up out of the stuffy black hoodie.
“Uh… Nothing.” As friendly as I could, I slowly walked away from him.
Before even reaching the exit, someone else's feet came blocking my path. “Where do you think you’re going?” Again, he said... “Budok… Do something with this little prick, oi?”
“Nah… Just let him go.” Said by the big guy with his black hoodie.
But... “No, you fucker! This is why we are not recognized by any other gangs! Because a shitty member like you keeps acting like a snub.”
“You better keep that mouth shut, buddy…”
“So what? So now we’re fighting?” said the skinny one.
“Can you control your voice while you are here, guys? Some of us come, just to cool off a bit from our daily activities. And now you guys have destroyed the usefulness of this place.” Right next to me, someone is turning his chair towards us while continuing to talk. “Just find somewhere else to have your own business.” He added.
“You have a problem with us, buddy?” Eight in total, all of the thugs were talking one by one asking for a duel to this single guy alone.
While with that confident face, he still intends to reply to those thug's threats, as he said… “None of you know how to use that power... Even you don't understand anything about it.”
Well… What is going on?
“Then teach us, will ya? Come outside. Let’s find somewhere else to prove yourself.”
After staring at each other for a few seconds, all the thugs started walking out from the room. Leaving this brave yet dumb guy stand there alone with a confident expression, he turned his face to me for a bit.
“Ah! You’re that random guy!” I screamed outside of my own consciousness.
Because he’s exactly that random guy who helped me from the electric pole two weeks ago.
“Excuse me?”
“No… Nothing. So what are you gonna do?” I asked to make sure.
Before he could give an answer, several people started shouting for him from outside the building. But the random guy ignored it just to answer my question.
“As I said, they don’t know anything about this power. It will be so easy for me to beat them up at once.”
“I see… Well good luck then…”
I watched him walk towards the light as I went back to my computer. Deo will never know about this, As I’ll just play as incognito for today.
But wait…
Shouldn't I have warned the man? Isn’t that will be dangerous for him?
Meh…
Whatever…
