《Another Death》Chapter 6 - Magic training

"Just as i finished learning swordplay, i'm already going to learn to use actual magic, but now Katarina is not here to support me" Thought Andrej to himslef as he silently walked towards her house, when he arrived he knocked on the door and politely said.
"Good morning"
"Hey good morning"
"Good morning son, how are you?"
"God i miss Katarina welcoming me with her jokes and laughs"
"Wanna come inside!" politely said Vesna.
"No thanks, i have come to train"
"Shouldn't you at least eat something before we begin?"
"No need, i ate quickly at home"
"Ah i see, Kiril taught you good didn't he" said Oleg through small laughs.
"Yeah, he was really strict to" Andrej added, which earned laughs from both of Katarina's parents.
"Now then, i'm ready for the training"
"Well then, let us begin" said Vesna while walking to the backyard, Andrej quietly following behind her.
The backyard was fully prepared with several targets, training dolls and wooden sticks ready to be destroyed, while two training swords lay againt the wall.
Both Vesna and Andrej took a sword and Vesna took a stance, which was unfamiliar to Andrej, but he realised it was a north wind stance, and he could feel mana concentration rising in the blade as it began changing color from normal metallic gray to almost black.
"Dark spiral" chanted Vesna and a black rotating blade shot out of the sword, then hit one of the training dolls and begun rotating it slowly for about 10 seconds until it slowly exploded in a black mana burst.
"Amazing!"
"That was just a demonstration, this is actually a higher grade spell, do you see how much damage i did with just that"
"Yeah!"
"Now let's start with the basics"
"Aww i can't do awesome things like that?"

"Of course not yet, what did you think"
"Sorry, i got a little carried away"
"No, it's okay, now you need to get the mana in your body and transfer it to the blade of the sword, then release the mana gathered in the form of a slash, a projectile or anything like that" Vesna explained "That is the basic principle behind all dark magic spells"
Vesna once again gathered mana in the blade, but now only the edges turned darker, then she slased the blade, "Dark slash" she said as a line of darkness where she slashed left and cut throught some targets before dissapearing.
"See, that was the most basic dark spell, you will try to learn this one today"
"Okay, let me try" he said as he gathered mana in his body, then slowly transfering it into the sword, "Dark slash" but instead of the intended effect just a explosion of mana was heard and Andrej was knocked into a wall.
"It's not like flying, you have to release the mana quickly" she said while Andrej silently watched her, he looked like he absorbed her words.
"Okay, let me try again" he said and once again repeated the process of gathering mana, transfering it to the blade, but he quickly released the mana this time "Dark slash" he said and a line of darkness appeared where he slashed, destroying a tree and most of the fence.
"Sorry! I didn't want to!" he apologised.
"No, no it's fine, the fence was old anyways, sooner or later i would have done the same" said Oleg through monstrously loud laughs.
"God, i hate that laugh"
"Congratulations, looks like you will be able to learn the entire basic part of dark magic today"
"Of course"
"Now then, for the next spell" said Vesna while alligning five targets in a vertical line, then she took a stance and slashed vertically "Black wave" she exclaimed, and five smaller, wavy lines appeared and quickly slashed into the targets, severing them in two completely.

"Oh wow! How did you do that!"
"It's simple really, except instead of releasing all the mana in one slash, you release it gradually, which produces multiple slash attacks"
"I see, let me try" he said and followed Vesna's instructions without fail, "Black wa--" suddenly he fell due to overusing his mana.
"Wanna take a break?" asked Vesna.
"No, it's okay, after this one"
"Black wave" he said and managed to succeed in casting the spell, creating 4 slashes which destroyed the transport cart Oleg used.
"It's okay, i was gonna sell it anyways" he said through laughs again.
"Just shut up!" yelled Vesna and he angrily entered the house.
"Okay, now try again, but please aim for the backyard this time"
"Okay" he said and fired another dark wave, but this time he destroyed a part of the nearby lake.
"Congratulations, but uhh" she said angrily with slight admiration.
"Let's take a short break"
"Yeah"
They both sat down at a bench which was surprisingly still in tact.
"So, can you tell me a bit more about my magic?"
"Of course, people born with an affinity for dark magic are rare in this world, and as you saw its highly destructive and with enough honing and training, it can be a powerful weapon" explained Vesna, "However, dark spells are not limited to usage through a sword only"
"Huh?"
"Yeah, Kiril probably told you about the battle with Chernobog and that cult, well i fought the vice leader of the cult, and he used dark magic spells in a lot of ways i didnt know were possible, like resurrecting the dead and moving through shadows"
"Oh wow, that's interesting"
"Yeah, i have been trying to recreate those spells for a long time now, but to almost no avail"
"Maybe the school would know something when i enroll"
"That is in two years, for now let's continue, i am going to make you master the basics today"
"Of course!"
