Matt wakes up with a headache. The System screams updates in his head, rapidly listing EXP gains that seem small but endless-
NecroParty has gained 20 EXP.
NecroParty has gained 10 EXP
NecroParty has gained 20 EXP.
NecroParty has gained 5 EXP.
NecroParty has gained 20 EXP.
NecroParty has gained 45 EXP.

NecroParty has gained 20 EXP.
NecroParty has gained-
Matt has to forcibly shut his mind from the deluge before the message capstone into one final notice-
Matt the Necromancer has Leveled Up.
Matt’s heart is overjoyed, although his body felt stiff and bound.
Bound? Matt instantly opens his eyes.
Thankfully he is still groggy because if he had let his captors know he was still alive by thrashing, they would have quickly corrected that.
Matt is in the middle of a procession of Orcs. The Orc Boss himself holds Matt in his massive arms. Which feels like being cradled between slabs of stone and smells worse than a butcher’s shop in the summer. Matt’s growing panic is forcibly brought to the surface despite his best efforts! Only the sheer luck of being tied up prevents the young Necromancer from flailing widely in the Orc’s arms.
He is going to die a second time, and he isn’t sure if he could be revived after being torn apart like a human chicken.
So Matt reviews his options.
Turning invisible? Matt discards that immediately. Matt doubts Orc intelligence but also considers that Orcs are not that stupid…. Also, Matt thinks, considering they took the time to tie him up, that means he won’t be able to roll very far.
Poison Cloud? But Matt shrugs off that idea. Even a Poison Cloud that uses all his Magic Grade slots wouldn’t kill them fast enough. Matt despairs. There is only raising another minion or—

Acid Rain. The spell pops into his head as he realizes that he has plenty of points to use to acquire it. Matt’s mind read the description of Acid Rain as he feels the orcs get closer and closer to the Dungeons Exit.
Acid Rain This is exactly what it says it is. A literal rain of Acid. Use with caution. 2 Minute Cooldown.
Matt’s heart once again leaps as he shoves points two into the spell.
Acid Rain Level 0 to 2
This was a bad decision, but Matt figures if he dumped every point of Magic Grade into a spell that’s already Level 2—
Minion Master Level 2 to 3
Minion Mastery Level 3:: Determines the number of undead you can have at your command. Current number (6), Next Level (10).
—He might as well take advantage of the bodies created. Matt’s mind works overtime to think of a way this will work. These Orcs are the same ones that ambushed him this morning, the same ones that destroyed Greg and nearly killed them both. He could end them all in one shot potentially.
Use with caution blares in his mind, but Matt ignores the warning. His mind goes to his inner place, making sure he casts the spell he learned for the first time in the way his mind eye can envision.
Matt reaches inward and finds strength and Mana.
“Magic Grade 4 Acid Rain!”
Matt’s voice takes an eldritch quality as the spell he cast outstripped his current Level and nearly flooded him with power that wasn’t his. The Orc Boss only has time to look down and notice his previously dead human meat had turned into a magic human before the beginnings of rain droplets touch his head.
The Orc Boss looks up, along with every Orc in the cave, as the first trickle sizzles against their hardened skin before the simmering turns to fire.

The Orcs open their mouth to scream in surprise as the deluge of a Level 6 Acid Spell rains down on their flesh, eyes, and throat. Burning everything as their lungs melt before the air of a scream has time to escape.
Orc Party has taken Massive Acid Damage
Orc Party has taken Critical Acid Damage
Orc Party is regretting Life Decisions.
Orcs Party has been Slain.
Necro Party has gained 1325 EXP.
Matt is overjoyed until he realizes something—
The spell didn’t stop. In fact, it burns. The rainwater quickly fills the cave-like tunnel of the Dungeon and takes Matt with it. His body floating with skeletal figures as the System notifies him of ever increasing Acid Damage-
Matt the Necromancer has taken Minor Acid Damage
Matt the Necromancer has taken Minor Acid Damage
Matt the Necromancer has taken Major Acid Damage
Matt the Necromancer has taken Critical Acid-
And then he is slammed into the cave-in entrance of the middle Dungeon entrance with such force that he opens his dissolving mouth to gasp-
Matt the Necromancer has taken Excessive Acid Damage
Matt the Necromancer is Dead… Again…
Pending Level Up-

Death By Protagonist
Donavan has made his living by wading through hundreds of stories in search of the quality few he and his firm believe to be worth publishing. After a strange twist of fate, he gets trapped inside the fantasy book of a particularly campy and amateur author. There he will have to navigate a world built on wish fulfillment, power fantasies, and fanservice in order to fix the story from the inside out if he ever wishes to leave. But can he bring himself to play the many roles necessary to manipulate and guide the characters to a satisfying conclusion? Authors Note: Death By Protagonist is meant to be simultaneously a satire of, and love letter to the isekai/portal fantasy genre. It both makes fun of and embraces many tropes of the genre such as harems, explicit sexual content, OP protagonists, and other things many people might think of as "trashy." If that doesn't sound like your thing, you've been warned, but I hope you'll give it a shot anyway. Update Schedule: Plan is to at least put out one new chapter every week, hopefully two.
