《Skelly Boy》Chapter 17 : Battle in the Swamp

Kapa Boss was sleeping peacefully when two unholy creatures climbed his head. The Boss of Kapas was going to yell at Kapa Mackie Mack later for letting these foul creatures through. Oh, and he has to sneeze.
“I won’t abide you!” the Boss rumbles, and then, “ACHO!”
When Kapas sneeze, the water or whatever else is on the top of their heads, expels outward with great force.
So Greg and Doug, the skellies that violated the Boss’ peace, find themselves flying several hundred feet in the air along with water, dirt, and trees. Their screams aren’t heard over the sheer sound of rushing force.
Some miles later, everything comes crashing down as rocks and torrential rain shortly follow.
“Ouch.” Greg moans as he gets up. Pain seems to echo from every bone as he digs his way out of the dirt.
“DOUG!” Greg shouts the moment he’s halfway free, as the rain obscures everything.
“Yes Boss!” cries the fellow warrior as he regenerates from being broken into pieces.
Relief spreads through Greg as he stands up, tugging one foot out of the dirt and trying to get his bearings. The calm meadow from before is replaced by a dark swamp teeming with slithering and burping life. Things move and undulate in the foreground, between the reeds and behind trees bent low and covered parasitic vines.
We need to move, Greg thinks as insects buzz around them, fat and glowing. None of them settle on the skellies, but there is a thought, a creepy thought that if they did—
Greg shakes his head. He isn’t made of flesh and blood any longer. Even though the sight of mosquitoes still creeps him out.
“Boss?”
Greg turns and sees that Doug has retrieved his Kapa spear and shield. But like before, there is a nervousness in the skellie’s near-robotic voice that should have unnerved Greg the first time.

“We’re surrounded, aren’t we?”
Doug nods, and the Kapas emerge, exploding on all sides from the dirty swamp water as their spears and nets flash.
The pair is most definitely fucked.
“Rally CRY!” Greg shouts from the top of his hollow chest, and the spell infuses their bones with a renewed vigor.

The Kapa nets meet them first, and Greg hacks at them in panic as the spears come from all sides. Five Kapa soldiers, all told, and Doug moves to block three spear points while wading through the muck and ankle-high water.
“Shield BASH!” Doug shouts, and the sudden addition of forward momentum and added stats sends him crashing into three Kapa soldiers as they cry out in alarm. Greg, now half covered in pieces of webbing, gets two spears ripping through his ribcage as he stumbles clumsily back. The two Kapa, working in unison, press their advantage and try to lean the spears up past the ribs and collarbone and into the skull.
Greg has a moment of panic followed by an epiphany and a wicked grin of realization. As the soldiers push, he leans in, almost tripping on the invisible roots and weeds that hide under the dirt and muck, and slides forward down the shaft of spears. The Kapa look at each other in mutual “oh shit” before a grinning Greg swipes his blade and slits both soldiers’ throats.

Necro Party has received 40 EXP.
Greg pushes past both the corpses of the two soldiers and tries to high step it toward Doug, who is in a tangle of scale feet and arms, as the Kapa soldiers and Doug attempt to use their oversized spears with little success.
“STAB HIM!” shouts one Kapa soldier.
“YOU STAB HIM!” screams the other.
“HE RIGHT THERE!” retorts the third in frustration!
“CRACK, YOU TURTLE BRAIN!” the first one yells in frustration
“YOU THE TURTLE BRAIN!” They scream as their bickering reaches a higher and higher pitch.
And as they devolve into a shouting and screaming match, Greg’s voices booms over them all, “DROP THE SPEAR AND USE YOUR SWORD!”
“Hey, that sounds like a good id—”
Kapa Soldier received critical piercing damage mid-sentence!
Kapa Soldier has been slain.

And then their loud shrill voices become screams of terror, the murky water exploding in the wake of their panic as Doug hacks and hacks.
