《Breath of Life | LoZBoTW》Memories

Emery awoke to Link's shaking body. She sat up, rubbing her eyes. The light was just beginning to really show outside, which meant it was early. They hadn't slept much. She looked down to see him moving around, but he was still asleep. His eyes were glued shut. He was whispering gibberish, and she gently shook him away. He shot up quickly, examining his surroundings. "Are you okay?" She asked.
"Are you?" He replied.
"I'm fine, Link. What do you mean?" She gave him an odd look. He sighed.
"I had a bad dream, is all." He said quietly.
"What about...?" She asked hesitantly.
"You wouldn't tell me about yours, why should I tell you about mine?" He retorted, and she was shocked at how he was being towards her. He ran his hand through his messy hair. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"I dream every night that Calamity Ganon comes and kills everyone I've ever known and loved. He rips them apart right in front of me, and there's nothing I can do. He won't even kill me, he's doing it to torture me. For me to watch." She opened up to him, feeling infinitely better when she knew he was listening. She finally felt like it was worth it to open up to him. Nonetheless, he was shocked at how horrific her dreams are.
"I see the same thing, just less gruesome. His dark eyes come straight for me, and then I wake up every time." He said. She frowned.
"I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too."
There was one key thing they both left out about their dreams- they saw each other. They both desperately fought to save the other, but to no prevail. That was the one thing that inevitably scared them both.
They got out of bed and got ready for the day, putting all their armor on. Today, Link would uncover his last memories. She wondered if that included his death. That made her wonder how he would take it all. Either way, she couldn't help but worry about him. She loved him, and they were bound together, right?
They got Epona from the stable and then Link showed Emery the picture on his Sheikah Slate. She examined it. "That's the Lanayru East Gate." She said. He nodded, and from there they went. They had one more after that, and she wondered what they held in store for him. Or if he'd even share with her. They arrived to the spot, and Link approached it. He stopped in his tracks, letting out a small gasp. She sat on Epona, watching with worry. She couldn't help it, she cared about him. After a minute, he turned back to her. She looked at him for some sort of explanation.

"We were here when it happened." He began. She nodded to show that she was listening. "We were heading for the castle, and the whole Earth began to shake. We all wondered what it was, but knew deep down it had to be Ganon. The only thing was- none of us were fully prepared. Revali flew up and looked, and sure enough it was. Then we raced to take our places."
It gave him chills to even speak of it. He wasn't scared for himself, but only others. Although, he was ready to fight like his life depended on it- and it did. "Were you scared?" She asked as he climbed onto Epona. He disregarded her question and showed her the last photo. "That's..." She mumbled as she racked her brain for where it could possibly be. "That's Hyrule Field."
She couldn't help but feel like she was living this out with him. Though she couldn't feel what he felt in that moment, neither could he. She was discovering it along with him, and it made them both feel closer to each other. They headed to Hyrule on Epona, trying to avoid as many guardians as they can. They had some ancient guardian arrows made by Robbie in the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, but they didn't want to waste them now when they could easily escape the guardians on horseback. It was such a shame that such amazing creations went to incredible waste.
They arrived at the forest part they were looking for, and Link hopped off the horse. He carefully approached the spot, and she watched as he stopped right in his tracks again. Nonetheless, he turned back to her, but he didn't seem like he wanted to talk about this one. She didn't want to push him, but she couldn't help but curious as to what he saw. He climbed onto Epona, and sat there a minute. Just thinking.
Emery and Zelda were more alike than he'd originally thought. Though, it seemed Emery didn't like her that much, and he wondered why. He hoped after all this was over, they could be friends. Zelda needed someone that was a girl to talk to and be with, someone who was like her and understood her. So, maybe when this was over it would all be good for them. He was never meant for her to talk to, it was always Emery.
He knew she expected to hear about what he saw, so he turned around towards her. "We were running from the guardians, they were all rampant and crazy. Ganon had used his powers to turn them against us. Their beams were something we didn't yet know how to defeat. He was something we didn't yet know how to defeat. Though, the guardians we never expected to worry about. I was injured and in a not very good state, but I had to keep protecting Zelda. It was my duty I couldn't give up no matter what.. It seemed Calamity Ganon was far more powerful than we'd ever predicted."

Before Emery could reply, he dashed Epona in the direction towards Kakariko Village, and she hurried to hold onto him tightly before she fell off. She couldn't tell how he was feeling, he was unreadable. Was he even okay? She continued to worry, but Link continued to think.
He wasn't exactly bothered by it, he'd already lived through it. It just made him more eager and anxious to finally defeat Ganon. This time there was no way it could go wrong. The four Divine Beasts were on their side, and so was Emery. He didn't have any doubts, but he still liked to know more about what he was going up against.
Their arrival in Kakariko Village brought a smile to many peoples face. "It's Champion Link and Lady Emery!" They cheered. She smiled at the faces she saw. They put Epona out of the way, then rushed up the steps to where Impa sat. She looked upon Link, already knowing what he was there for.
"You've collected all the memories already? Though, I guess it is the perfect time for you to have done so." She spoke with a wise voice. As she always did. "There's one more memory, Link-"
"No-"
"Zelda wanted me to save it for last. I'll give you the picture now. It's on the wall." She revealed, and they turned towards it, examining it. Emery knew she'd seen it before, but she was wracking her brain to recall it. Then, a light bulb appeared over her head.
"It's the Ash Swamp." Emery said. Link nodded, and he hurried out the door. Emery gave a small wave to Impa. She stopped her.
"How are you and Link getting along?" She asked. Why did it matter specifically? She wondered if she should tell Impa about the Triforce, but she decided not to.
"Well, I guess." She said. Impa's face faltered a bit. She wondered why it was so important. "I'm going to assist him in defeating Ganon."
"I'm glad to hear that." She smiled. Emery nodded, one corner of her mouth turning up. All she wanted was for Impa to be proud of her.
"Well, I should get going. He's probably waiting on me." Emery replied awkwardly, then rushed out the door after Impa's nod. Link pulled her up onto Epona. She didn't know why he insisted upon doing that every time, but he did. They made it to the Ash Swamp, and found the exact spot where the picture was taken. Link approached it. He stood there a minute, then turned around. There was a sad look on his face. That was the last memory.
"I couldn't save her." Was all he said. He climbed onto Epona, and Emery now frowned. She said nothing as he headed back to the house before night fell. He came inside, and headed straight for the bathroom. She found no point in showering herself as she hadn't done much but sit on the back of Epona. Instead, she changed. She wondered when they were going to fight Calamity Ganon. They could go any time, now. Everything was in place. Link had a hard day, so she didn't want to put much pressure on him. Learning everything about his past had to be overwhelming.
She went upstairs and climbed into bed, awaiting him to climb in bed with her. He really needed to get some rest if they were to go tomorrow. Just to think, after so many years, it all ended tomorrow.
Finally, he came up the steps. He got into the bed next to her, and started reading his book. "Link, you should get some rest."
"Why?" He asked.
"You had a long, exhausted day. I just figured-"
"Don't worry about me." He shrugged, and then continued to read. She sighed.
"Well, you can't read in the dark." And she reached over him, putting the light out between her fingers.
"Hey-"
"Get some rest." She mumbled. "We're going to Ganon tomorrow, right?"
"After you get some guardian arrows, then maybe we will." He replied. He grabbed her arm, pulling her back to face him. He placed her arm around him
"Are you okay?" She asked. He nodded.
"I'm ready." He said firmly, and she agreed completely.
"Just please make sure you get some rest, because if you don't you won't be on your game tomorrow, and-"
He chuckled quietly, making her stop talking. "I know, Emery. I will."
"Okay." She muttered, resting her head on him. She held onto him tightly, because who knew what was going to happen tomorrow...
