《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Seven: Pure Loneliness

Niklaus Mikaelson
feeling a weight on my chest. Looking down, I saw a mass of brown curls sprawled out against me as her petite figure held me tight in an embrace. Her cheek was pressed against one of my pectoral muscles and her arms were wrapped around my torso while she had one leg bent lying over my lower half. My right arm was over her waist and my left hand was entwined with my right closing her body against mine.
She was sound asleep completely unaware of our positioning.
After I told her she could possibly be a threat to me, she pulled away leaving an emptiness I couldn't explain inside of me. She had resisted sleeping in the same bed until I ordered for her to stay where she was so she changed in to night clothes and went to bed lying in the opposite direction of me.
I spent some time observing her as she slept wondering how she could be such a possibly powerful creature yet so small. She had to be nearly seven inches shorter than me and she was more petite than even Rebekah yet she had the potential power of a goddess.
The small Hybrid girl piqued my interest from the day I met her and the more time I spent with her, the deeper my interest grew. Her story and mine were quite similar but hers had more of a sweeter ending seeing as I never met an entire set of people like myself, I was merely alone until my mother cursed the other side of me. She was more humane than I, seeing as she had a literal heartbeat but in some ways it made her stronger...braver.
Whoever this so called mate of hers was did not know how fortunate they would be spending eternity with the likes of—what was I saying? Was a seriously jealous of this girl's mate? She and whoever they were were a threat to me that needed to be taken care of.
What would happen if one of the two were taken out of the equation? Would the other get stronger or weaker? I needed to find that out and I needed to find this shifter.
I called one of my most powerful witches and had her dive further into the topic demanding that she will report back to me with whatever she found out. It was only then that I was able to relax, turn out the light, and sleep.
How we got into the tangled position we were currently in, I wasn't quite sure but there was a part of me that admired it. A part of me wanted to pull her closer and entangle my fingers through her brown curls and just let time slip away. But there was another part of me that was aware that I had a potential hybrid currently unconscious in the other room and knew I had a mission that I was currently on.
A phone ringing snapped me out of my thoughts and startled the supernatural phenomenon in my arms before I reached out and picked it up.
'Damon' flashed across her cell phone screen and I rolled my eyes pressing the answer button.
"Evan? Are you okay?" He spoke urgently on the other line before I could utter a word.
"Now Damon, what makes you think I'd actually allow her to have her phone?" I questioned as I watched the brown haired girl freeze, realizing who she was pressed against.
The brunette began cursing under her breath repeatedly trying to slowly pull away from me as if I wouldn't notice. I just watched, amused.

"Just let me talk to her Klaus" The Salvatore demanded and I almost laughed.
Him...demanding me?
"I suggest you watch your tone Salvatore, I wouldn't want anyone getting hurt" I growled sadistically as Evangeline lifted fully off of me with her curls now all over her face.
The girl frowned, pulling her mane out of her vision as she stared at her phone pressed against my ear, obviously listening in.
"Don't touch her you bastard!" The man yelled, apparently I hit a soft spot.
I smirked at that as his sister frowned deeper, reminding me of her brother Stefan, the most brooding vampire in the supernatural world.
Before I could speak, the petite girl beat me to it, "I'm fine Damon, calm down"
She muttered her words loud enough for her brother's supernatural hearing to pick up on it.
The dark haired man gasped, "Evan?! Are you okay?! Don't lie to me! We're going to fi—"I hung up the phone before her brother could finish.
After a short silence, the girl spoke, "What time is it?"
I cocked an eyebrow but looked down at her phone screen, "7:00"
"AM?!" The petite girl swore and began muttering to herself as she launched herself back towards the covers, "Well the hell was that idiot up so early?! Doesn't he always wake up in like the afternoon, with a hangover?! What makes this any—oh, never mind that but Jesus it is early"
I watched her have this verbal battle with herself before she pulled the bed sheets over herself and curled up in a little ball. The only part of her body that was visible was her mass of brown curls, other than that she was completely emerged under the covers not paying any mind to my presence.
The room went silent again for a few moments and then she broke it once more.
"Sorry for um...cuddling you" Her apology came out muffled but I couldn't help the amused smile on my lips.
The last time I'd cuddled with a girl—who wasn't already dead or in my arms being drained of blood—was way in the late eleventh century during my embarrassing self pity year. I seemed to seek comfort in a number of women after the ordeal with my family that tore us apart but I never found it and that led to who I was today. Maybe if last night happened all those years ago and I felt the comfort I had with this girl back then, things would be different, I would be different. But it didn't and I wasn't.
As if on cue, I heard Ray Sutton waking up in the other room and took that as my reality check.
"Get dressed, love, there's a pack waiting" I ordered as I stood from the disheveled bed talking to the lady sized lump in it.
The Salvatore sister groaned unmoving, "Five more—"
"Now" I snapped cutting her off, "I'm only asking once"
And with that, I left the room to retrieve the utterly confused hybrid in the making.
Evangeline Salvatore
The more time I spent with Klaus, the more confused I got.
You'd think it would be the other way around but it truly wasn't. First he'd charm me with his smirks and side comments and maybe even freaking cuddle and caress me making me feel things I'm definitely not supposed to feel. Then, in the blink of an eye he'd be back to barking orders at me and spewing threats left and right. I just didn't understand it.
After I lied there on the bed for a couple seconds, I finally got up and trudged over to my duffel bag to find something to wear. A random dark red long-sleeved v-neck and a pair of black suede leggings seemed good enough so I grabbed them and went to the en-suite bathroom.

The shower water was the perfect mix of hot and barely any cold so I basked in it, taking my time to wash my body and hair before finally turning it off with a sigh.
It was only when I stepped out of the shower onto the soft, fur mat that I realized my mistake. I'd completely forgotten to bring underwear and a bra.
"Shit" I cursed under my breath before taking a moment to think and listen.
I could hear Klaus still talking to Ray Sutton in the other room so if I was fast enough, I could grab my duffel and make it back to the bathroom unseen. That or I was going commando for the day and my choice of pants was going to get itchy so that wouldn't be the best choice.
Unfortunately, after I did a short countdown in my head and supernaturally zoomed out of the bathroom, into the suite, so did Klaus and we literally collided with each other. Seeing as we were both going at an inhuman pace, our collision nearly sent me into the wall while he stumbled back a few spaces looking utterly confused.
I almost dropped my towel. Almost.
Luckily, I caught it just as the corner began to become undone and quickly tucked it back in still looking shocked at what happened.
Klaus, on the other hand, was openly eyeing me in just a towel with a hunger in his eyes that made me uncomfortable but also seemed to ignite something inside of me. It didn't help that he had on a black v-neck that fit his figure snug yet loose and what looked like a chain type of necklace around his neck. The man seemed to get more attractive by the second and I knew it would probably end up doing more harm on me than good.
The discomfort overruled any other feeling—even with him in a v-neck—as I glanced at my duffel behind him then looked back to his eyes that were finally on me and not the water dripping down my legs.
"I um...I forgot my underwear in my duffel" I explained, nudging my head towards the leather bag behind the Original with a rosy tint to my cheeks.
God, could you say awkward?
Unexpected to me, the nearly six foot Hybrid blushed, stepping to the side so I could get to my bag.
"We're leaving in five minutes" He informed me curtly before leaving with just a gust of air in the area he had once been standing in.
Not too long after, Klaus and I were trudging through an unknown area of woods with Ray in tow. The wolf was grumbling to himself barely conscious as Klaus dragged him along by his bicep but he still seemed too weak to put up much of a fight. He could barely walk if anything and there was still blood staining his shirt because of yesterday.
I couldn't help but to be guilt ridden every time I looked at the poor man. I wished terribly that the circumstances were different and I had an actual upper hand over Klaus but I didn't so I was forced to obey him just like Ray was. Both of our lives were on the line otherwise.
"It's going to be just ahead" The Sutton wolf muttered reluctantly after what felt like hours of hiking when in reality, it couldn't have been more than thirty minutes.
We reached a campsite of many people—werewolves, but they were in their human form. They all looked at us with caution and Klaus let go of Ray's bicep causing him to fall onto the soil before us. I winced at the grunt of pain he let out and cut my eyes at Klaus but he ignored me. Instead, he watched as a girl ran over to Ray's body exclaiming his name and gasping when she saw the blood but Ray fell unconscious.
She had medium length dark brunette hair that hung in loose waves, she was pretty but she was scared, rightfully so. From what I could tell, Klaus wanted some sort of an army so I was sure he was planning on turning every single werewolf at the camp.
She snapped her head up and glared at me in fear, "Who are you?"
I was about to open my mouth but Klaus stepped in front of me, "The question is, who am I"
I rolled my eyes at that but he continued, "Please forgive the intrusion, I'm Klaus"
A boy a few yards away seemed to have come to realization at the same time as the girl but she spoke first, "You're the hybrid"
"You've heard of me..." Klaus uttered with deepness in his tone that gave me chills, "Fantastic"
The group visibly stiffened, keeping their gazes directly on Klaus and I as he walked towards a flat boulder and took a seat while I stood glancing from Ray to his pack. The sight brought me back to the village in Spain when a man named Reynaldo came back injured and passed out in the arms of my Uncle. There was a tug of pity in my heart before Klaus cleared his throat and I snapped my eyes over to him to see him glaring at me.
Obviously I was supposed to follow his lead and sit down on the boulders, is what the look in his eyes said.
Refraining from rolling my eyes at his sass, I went over and sat beside him but kept my distance.
The hybrid seemed to strike a pose as he got comfortable, leaning back on one hand and putting his other on his knee as he faced away from me and towards the werewolves. He began speaking but the v-neck loving side of me was studying the taut muscles of his back as they flexed with each minuscule movement he made. They were so slender yet so strong...
"...A true hybrid" Klaus finished and my attention was immediately stolen when Ray gasped back to life, "Excellent timing, Ray...very dramatic"
I'll say, I thought to myself, watching as the man gasped and writhed around as he moved onto his stomach.
"What's happening to me?" The transitioning hybrid gasped still fidgeting around.
"Evangeline" Klaus whispered loudly looking over at me expectantly and it took me a moment to register what he was talking about and then I remembered what he'd instructed me to do as we entered the Smoky Mountains.
Standing up, I cleared my throat walking slightly towards Ray, "Are any of you human? Ray's going to need human blood because he's transitioning to a vampire and if he doesn't get it, he'll die"
My words felt and probably sounded rehearsed as I looked around the wooded area from person to person urgently. I really didn't want to watch the werewolf die.
"He doesn't need much" Klaus answered in his same, manipulative, whisper like voice, "Just a sip. Anyone? A boyfriend...a girlfriend along for the ride...you"
Quickly, Klaus grabbed a man a bit his arm ignoring wavy haired girl's protests and threw him over to me so I could hold him down for Ray. Remembering why I was cooperating, I didn't hesitate. I didn't pay attention to Klaus as he force fed the girl his blood but instead dialed in on Ray.
"Just do it, I know you don't want to die" I murmured to him and sure enough, I watched the black veins appear beneath his eyes as he fed onto the man hungrily as he cried out in pain.
Feeling terrible, I compelled the human, "You don't feel a thing"
My relief was short lived as the man relaxed when I looked up just as Klaus broke the girl from earlier's neck and she fell at his feet.
The hybrid wore blood on his lips that were pulled into a smirk as he looked around. His eyes were still vamped out and his sharp fangs were still protruding from his gums. I felt a rush of heat come over me as I watched him and I felt disgusted with myself knowing that I found the look on him attractive. I wasn't even sure why but it was the least of my concerns as Klaus asked who was next before attacking another wolf not waiting for a reply.
My job was to collect the humans and compel them if they weren't on vervain as he forced each wolf into transition. The problem was the only human was the man who Ray had fed on so I had to force the transitioning man off of him before he drained all of his blood.
There was a knot in my stomach that grew as each wolf fell but the heat I felt continued to course through my veins with each animalistic growl that came from the hybrid. There was a demented pleasure in his eyes as he bit each wolf and also a sense of pride.
I stood beside Ray as he shook looking around painfully at each body scattered across the forest floor.
Klaus stood over the bleeding human and compelled him after feeding him his blood speaking in a dreadfully soft tone, "Good as new...now you relax, okay mate? 'Cause we're gonna need you when the rest of them wake up"
"They're dead...they're all dead" Ray muttered to himself shaking and sniffling with a horrified look on his face. Again, the guilt began to consume me.
Klaus approached us with his eyes on the transitioning hybrid, "Well he's through his transition so he should be feeling better soon"
He didn't look to be getting any better, only worse. He was covered in blood and wore a frantic look on his face as his snuffling sounds continued.
I looked up at the hybrid with a raised eyebrow, "He doesn't look it"
Klaus brushed off my doubt, "It's all a part of the process"
"And this process, the twitching and the bleeding, they're all going to go through it?" I questioned him as I leaned against a tree branch.
"Apparently so" Klaus responded with a wicked look in his eyes as he looked at me.
Furrowing my eyebrow, I backed away a bit, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
He smirked, "No reason...just wondering if your little dragon side could take a bite"
My eyes went wide and I immediately wanted to hide behind the tree but I didn't. I refused to let him see me weak so I calmed myself down and thought of something my grandmother told me.
"Unus blood is laced with wolfsbane and a flower called prysithia, it's a rare poison that weakens any supernatural being but we have an immunity to it of course...but if you'd like to try, be my guest, I heard it tastes like liquid fire" I smirked at him and he cocked an eyebrow while narrowing his eyes.
He seemed like he wanted to call my bluff but I interrupted him, "What do you want with an army of hybrid slaves?"
"Not slaves, Dear Angel more like soldiers...comrades..." He wore a look of self content but I was merely confused.
"For what war?"
"You don't arm yourself after war has been declared Dear Angel; you build your army so big...that no one ever dares to pick a fight"
I had to give him props, it made sense and he was very smart for thinking that way—paranoid mostly but still smart.
"Well how do you know they'll follow after you once they've fully transitioned?" Every wolf I knew was very hard headed and hated vampires and I wasn't quite sure that would change with a little vampire blood in their system.
"Because, love, it's not difficult to be loyal when you're on the winning team...which I'm hoping is something you've gathered from this little ordeal" He looked at me with that same stupid smirk and the same self-assured fire in his eyes that irritated me to no end.
"Are you forgetting my brothers are on the supposed, 'losing team'? They're the reason I'm even here in the first place" I couldn't help but to snap at him because of his arrogance and at first I was worried he was going to slap my head off but instead his smirk only grew wider.
"And what if your little mate is on my team?" He said throwing a suggestive look towards Ray.
I scrunched up my eyebrows at him, he wasn't seriously thinking that Ray brought out the unus in me...was he?
"You don't seriously think—holy shit" I interrupted myself as I looked at the blood running down Ray's cheeks from his eyes, "K-Klaus..."
He frowned and crouched down to the transitioning man grabbing his cheeks and pulling his hair back, "Something's wrong"
No shit
Klaus gave me a look and I froze when I realized I said that out loud but he ignored it.
"You said it was gonna feel better...you said it was gonna feel better" Ray whimpered as he looked at Klaus expectantly.
"I-It will..." I murmured putting a hand on his shaking shoulder causing Klaus to stare at my hand until the wavy haired girl gasped awake.
He instructed the human to feed the girl right as Ray Sutton roared and began running away on his hands and feet.
"I'll get him" I muttered zooming after him before Klaus could utter a word.
Catching up to him, I grabbed his arm to stop him but he jerked back attempting to bite me but I smacked his face away with claws I didn't know I had and he roared in pain slamming me into a tree trunk and biting my shoulder. The action only made him cry out more as a sizzling sound came from his fangs and his ran off stumbling a bit.
Rolling my eyes, I returned to Klaus holding my shoulder.
