Here's a long (well I think it's long but I can't really tell) one for you guys. Also I wanted to say, THANK YOU SO MUCH for voting, adding, or even reading this story, it means a lot to me.

P.S. I don't own Vampire Diaries or any of the characters but if I do become rich or something I might just try to buy Klaus.

make a call" I murmured to Niklaus as we came to motel with Ray still passed out in the backseat. Since he was very weak from the wolfsbane, Klaus informed me he'd be out for at least a two days.

The blonde Hybrid looked at me as if I pegged him for an idiot but said nothing as he picked up the unconscious werewolf and began walking towards the room he reserved.

I quickly caught up to him, "I'm not talking about my brothers, I need to contact someone else, it's really important and will do no harm to your plans-listen to my heartbeat, I'm not lying"

Still ignoring me, Klaus walked into one of the rooms and discarded Ray's body before returning and giving me a look through narrow eyes.

"Who is it you wish to contact?" He asked sitting on a couch while I still stood helplessly.

"My grandmother" I muttered, knowing the mere statement would spark questions from the Original.

Niklaus was the last person I wanted to tell about my hidden side but I knew I needed to gain his trust and I couldn't lie. My life depended on it.

The Original looked interested yet confused, "Shouldn't all of your relatives be deceased, love? I'm not aware of any living Salvatore's other than you and your brothers"

Sighing, I sat in a chair across from him, "She's not related to my brothers, she's my biological father's mother"

This only piqued the man's interest, "My, my you have quite the story to tell me"

"And I'll tell you every last bit just please let me speak with her" A bit of my Latin accent slipped out with my statement which drew the Original in further but he dug my phone out of his pocket and handed it to me.

"No more than forty-five minutes" I nodded gratefully and disappeared into the bathroom before I dialed her number.

The phone rang four times before I heard a voice, "Hello, who is this?"

"Nana its Catalina" I murmured letting my full accent slip out, my grandmother referred to me as Catalina, my middle name, because I was told my father gave it to me.

I never actually really hid my accent but I'd grown accustomed to using an American one around others. I only gave in to it when I spoke to my grandmother whom I called Nana, but pronounced it as Nah-nah.

She gasped, "Lina, it's been too long, how have you been?"

"I'm okay" I squeaked biting back tears, "But Nana something has gone wrong"

"What is it darling?" Her voice sounded raspier than ever, I knew she was getting worried.

"Compulsion stopped working on me after three times like..."

"My kind" she finished sounding not-so-surprised, "I was afraid this was going to happen"

"What was going to happen? Nana, what are you not telling me?"

"You've found your mate Catalina" My blood ran cold.

"M-my what?" I sputtered stumbling onto the closed toilet seat as I tried to grasp what she'd just said to me.

My grandmother sighed, "Soul mates exist in every shape shifting species and you have found yours"

"How do you know?" I asked in disbelief.

"Because another way to trigger your powers aside from turning twenty one is finding your mate, they bring about your most powerful side" She explained and it felt like the room was spinning.

"But that means..."

"Yes Catalina, your unus side may not be dormant after all"

I gaped at her words, "But I thought it could kill me since I am a vampire"

"And that is still true but my lovely Lina, what does not kill you merely makes you stronger"

I went silent for a while, "...How will I know who my mate is?"

"You will feel it, dear" She said, "Call me if you need any further guidance"

"Yes Nana" I said before the line went dead and I put my head in my hands trying to process the new information.

Not only was there a possibility I could die from my not-so-dormant side but I also apparently have met my mate whom I had to thank for that-but who the hell was it?

After breaking out of my thoughts, I emerged from the bathroom ready to face Klaus.

"Please tell me you've ordered alcohol" I grunted sitting back down in the gray chair from before.

The Hybrid grinned walking towards me with champagne, a glass, and a bucket of ice. Thank God.

Once I had a perfectly filled glass of champagne, I looked over at the blonde man who had a glass as well.

"I know you heard my conversation with my grandmother" I blurted and he just nodded bringing his glass to his lips without breaking eye contact

My stomach leaped but I ignored it for my own good, "So a mate?"

"I guess so" I murmured looking into my wine glass as I took a sip.

The Hybrid studied me as if he was waiting for me to fall apart. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't let myself fall apart, not then. I knew that was what he was counting on, for me to show him my weakness, to prove to him that I was small and weak compared to him.

"And who would that mate be, love?" He asked, setting his glass down and keeping his eyes on me.

Sighing, I looked up at the blue eyed man warily, "That's what I have to find out"

"By 'feeling it'" He mocked with his British accent using air quotes.

I couldn't help but to chuckle at that which made him laugh a bit as well, which surprised me. Realizing I still had my cell phone, I looked at the time, nearly two in the morning.

I looked at the Hybrid with a wicked grin, "Care for a bedtime story?"

The man lifted an eyebrow in question before he chortled, "Quite a long one isn't it?"

"You won't be bored" I said laughing before we walked to the bedroom where there was one bed, King sized with blue silk sheets and gold lining.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at the powerful man who just shrugged while wearing a mischievous look knowing he could've afforded a room with enough beds for the three of us-him, myself, and Ray Sutton.

Sitting on the bed, I took off my shoes and handed him my phone. For a split second, I saw confusion in his eyes as if he'd forgotten where we were and who he was. At the end of that second, he took my phone, clearing his throat and putting it on the motel bed side table before discarding his shoes as well.

He sat down with his back towards me and I faced him crossing my legs.

"You knew the compulsion didn't work" I said not accusing him, but just admitting it out loud.

He turned towards me with an unreadable look on his face, "And I knew you'd do what I said either way"

I broke the gaze and looked at the sheets, "Because I need to come back to my brothers...family means everything to me"

"I know" He murmured, "Forever and always"

I looked up at him with surprise and saw the far away look on his face. I swore I witnessed the humanity in the big bad Hybrid.

"Everything changed in 1864" I began, changing the subject and giving Klaus time to regain his composure.

"Go on" The hybrid said; now leaning against the headboard as I sat at the bottom of the bed.

I nodded and looked at my hands, "That day, my father went on a rampage. He learned my mother had an affair two years prior but that day he found the man she had done it with, my father." I went quiet for a bit and the Hybrid wore a clouded look but I continued, "He and a few of his men all marched to his home and called for him...Julian Christo begged to see his daughter one last time before he was shot down in front of his entire neighborhood".

I didn't know the tears were falling until I felt them dripping onto my hands. I quickly wiped them away though I knew Klaus saw and the most unexpected thing happened. All in a second, the blonde hybrid was pulling me into his arms in an embrace I never expected but greatly appreciated.

A small gasp escaped my mouth and my heartbeat sped up as I found myself surrounded by his warm presence. His scent filled my nostrils and sent a warm feeling through my body but it didn't stop the confusion I felt at that moment. The supernatural world's most heartless being was comforting me?

Before I could speak, he beat me to it, "Keep going"

Getting into a more comfortable position in his arms, I did as he said, "Well after seeing my biological father killed by the man I thought was my father, that same man later killed my brothers and then...me" I mumbled holding back a new set of tears, "First he verbally abused me calling me a bastard child, a mistake, the whole nine yards and then he beat me to death.

When I took my last breath, I thought I was free but it turns out Stefan had laced some of Katherine's blood into one of my drinks so I wasn't dead for long. I woke up this whole new person and I completely hated it. My emotions were all over the place and I was craving the blood of my hand maiden for some odd reason.

"I found Stefan and Damon right after Stefan had drained our father and I thought I was going insane. They tried to calm me down and informed me on what I'd become but that just drew the knife deeper. More than anything, I wanted to be free and back then, death was the only freedom so when they tried to convince me to drink blood to live, I refused. Before they could force it on me, I fled. I went as far as I could as fast as I could until it all became too much. Weak and blood thirsty, the bloodlust became too strong and I wiped out an entire family only to fall apart right after.

"I commit suicide three times before I just gave up figuring that I was just meant to be stuck in that hell I'd called a life. For years, all I did was just exist and only feed when the thirst became too much and then I came across a miracle" I paused feeling Klaus's eyes on me with intrigue, "I learned that I could just turn it off, that pain, the anger, the sadness, just take it all away and I did. At first, it felt like the freedom I'd been pawning after partying, compelling to get my way, eating innocent people and all that but for some reason I still had a conscience. Of course I'd ignored it and continued on but then I met a witch named Anastasia White and things changed. She took me in and treated me like I wasn't the monster that I felt like. Soon enough, she convinced me to turn it all back on and it all hit me like a brick wall but she was there. It was crazy that she was a witch helping a vampire freak but she was there and she became one of my best friends. She and I traveled together and she got me in touch with a man named Paul Christo-my uncle.

"This is where it gets interesting" I said giving the hybrid a pointed look, "Turns out I had a grandmother in Spain who lived in a village filled with people called the unus ignis..."

Klaus furrowed his blonde eyebrows, "The ones of fire? I thought that was just a myth of some sort"

"I'd never even heard of them" I responded, playing with the hem of his shirt unknowingly, "But I was ecstatic to meet people who knew what my father was like. I stayed with my grandmother, Emiliana Christo for a year or two learning all about my father. She told me simple things like he hadn't cried much when he was a child and he had a habit of seeing the good in even the most sinister people. I like to think I got that trait from him."

After that comment, I looked up at Niklaus who visibly tensed and I was afraid he was going to push me away but then he relaxed again. It almost seemed like something inside him reassured that I wasn't going to hurt him or force him to say or be something he wasn't used to. Whatever it was, I silently was thankful for it as I continued.

"My Nana also told me that my father was a hopeless romantic and she wasn't surprised that it'd gotten him in trouble. He'd always been one to fight for what he wanted even when what he wanted wasn't exactly available for him" I paused feeling something tugging on my heart as my throat got dry.

It was my first time discussing with someone the whole story-I'd even kept a few details from Anastasia but here was I was spilling everything to Klaus.

Suddenly, I became very aware of our position. I was aware that his muscular arms were trapping me into his brusque chest and his chin was right against my forehead and my left ear was against his collarbone. I realized that a loose string from his black long sleeved thermal was weaved around my index finger on my right hand and I was curled up in his lap in a tiny ball-the calmest I'd been in a long time.

Finally, I was completely aware that I was absolutely comfortable in the arms of the supernatural world's most hated man and I couldn't bring myself to care less, so I continued.

"I didn't learn I was in a village filled with shifters until my Uncle brought me to a village festival that my father loved until he decided he wanted to see the rest of the world. When I came there I was amazed, to say the least, at what I saw. There was fire-a lot of it and people were dancing and some were even breathing it. I was in shock when my Uncle joined the pile of dancers and screamed releasing a whole set of flames. If I hadn't been so shocked and awed I probably would've ran. My grandmother found me and soothed me of my worries and told me to just watch so I did. Everyone was so happy and lively, it was beautiful in a way. They were all so united and proud of themselves and their amazing talent that I found myself wishing to be like them. My grandmother told me all about the infamous ones of fire and the origins and she told me that my father had been both a fire breather and a shape shifter. She told me that he would go to this cliff and he would jump clean off of it only to sprout wings and fly around the whole village"

Niklaus seemed absolutely astonished at that, completely speechless, so I kept going.

"There were only three shape shifters at the village festival-two men and a woman-and at the end, I got to see them all sprout their wings and fly away. It was absolutely amazing. My grandmother informed me that doing that took a lot of energy from them so they could only fly for a couple of hours before they had to come down and rest. She said that people who had both abilities of breathing fire and shifting were the strongest but they were very rare. There were only ten known to our kind and only four that were alive-would've been five if my father was. I asked her where the fourth was since there were only three people and she told me that the fourth-Reina Pulvez, had decided to travel like my father. It was rare for an unus to leave the village but anyone who left was seen as brave and was very respected because it was dangerous to be on your own in a world filled with people who thought who you were was just a myth.

"During my stay, I befriended a lot of the unus men, women, and children and I wanted nothing more than to be like them. I finally had grown the courage to ask my grandmother about it and the first thing she did was ask me my age. I told her eighteen and then I realized it'd been a year and my birthday passed so I was supposed to be nineteen. She knew I was a vampire because of course I had to eat during my stay and she didn't really mind that detail much to my pleasure. I never lusted for the blood of my people once which I was glad about but I also found sort of weird. Anyway, she told me that normally, an unus fully matured enough for their power to compensate when they were twenty-one which made my heart drop.

"I asked her what if they never turned twenty-one and she told me that there was a chance that would never reach that maturity. She also informed me that the last unus that turned to a vampire literally burned to death from the inside out when they came back to life with the blood in their system. Turns out that vampire blood is like venom for unus and the same for vampires-which is why I never had bloodlust during my stay. That day I learned that technically, I was made of three things-one third human-which is why I had a heart beat-another third vampire-the reason why I couldn't only sustain myself on food-and the last third unus ignis-the side I thought I would never discover about myself. After learning that, I was completely devastated. It didn't take too long until being unable became too much and I went to stay with Anastasia who then resided in Paris. There, I met your brother Elijah"

The blonde man who held me perched an eyebrow at that, "Is that so? He never told me anything about meeting a female Salvatore"

I just shrugged, "He and I had only known each other for half a decade before he went looking for-well-you. Admittedly, he was like a best friend to Anastasia and I but he was also aware of my origin and he got really protective about it, advising me to not tell many people about it. He seemed like he knew something that he didn't like and he never told me about it, not even to this day"

Klaus furrowed his eyebrows in frustration but seemed to disregard my last statement, "So you are a hybrid of sorts?"

I slowly nodded before speaking meekly, "yes, I'm afraid so"

"And you're partially human?" He collected.

"Yep, have the beating heart to prove it"

"Are you weaker than most because of it?" He seemed truly curious but it still worried me.

"I-um...I'm not quite sure, I wrestled with Damon quite fine" I murmured, not really knowing where he was going with the information.

The hybrid seemed a bit amused at that but dismissed it, "And if you're to find this mate of yours, you both would be stronger?"

"According to my grandmother yes"

"They're a shifter?"

"That's the only thing I'm sure of; vampires don't exactly have the emotion for true soul mates to exist within them"

"You're part vampire, sweetheart" He said smiling a bit.

"Yeah, and so are you" I pointed out.

"Another hybrid" He murmured to himself.

"Guess I'm your competition" I muttered subconsciously.

He looked down at me with an unreadable look, "Possibly even a threat"

And I completely froze.
