《Country Living - Finn Harries (JacksGap)》Chapter 2: She's Beautiful

Finn's POV
"This chicken is absolutely delicious, Mrs. Stone." Jack said as we ate dinner. "Please, call me Jenny." She said. I was almost done with my delicious meal, the plate next to mine hadn't been touched. "Where is sissy?" Josie, their 5 year old daughter, asked. "I don't know, honey." Mr. John said. "I wonder what's taking her so long." Mrs. Jenny said. "She's probably out with Caspian." Mr. John said. Wait, is Caspian a guy? If I'm correct, the girl I saw on the horse was Morgan, their oldest daughter. I shouldn't be surprised she has a boyfriend. We heard a door open to reveal it to be Morgan. Yep, that's her; she's so pretty. "What happened to don't go too far?" Mrs. Jenny asked her. "We didn't go out far. Just the pasture for a while." Morgan said, glancing at me and Jack. "Well, wash up and eat." Mr. John said. "Your food is probably cold by now." Mrs. Jenny said as Morgan washed her hands in the kitchen sink. "I'm eating with the horses." She said, grabbing her plate from beside me. "Morgan..." Mrs. Jenny went to say, but not in time for Morgan to listen as she went out the door she entered in. "I'm sorry about her. A lot of things have changed for her this summer." Mr. John said. "Hopefully she'll be better in the morning." Mrs. Jenny said as we kept eating.

"So, for the next couple of months, we'll be living the country life, here in America." Jack said to the camera as we sat on his bed. "I'm really excited for this summer." I said. "Me, too, Finn. Me too." Jack said before turning his camera off. "This is going to be so weird." Jack said. "Why did we have to come anyway? This is so dumb." I said, getting up to fall onto my bed a few feet away from Jack's. "Apparently we were taking advantage of our lives in London." Jack tried to explain. "Rubbish." I said. "I know." Jack said, taking down his camera. "Why couldn't we just go to, I don't know, Brighton?" I asked, staring at the ceiling. "I don't know, Finn. It's good content for the channel." Jack said. "Ugh." I said, getting up to get ready for bed. "John, she's still out there." I heard Mrs. Jenny's voice outside our room. "Don't worry, Jen. She'll be fine." Mr. John's voice said. "At least go check on her, please." Mrs. Jenny said. "I don't know why Morgan's being all dramatic all of a sudden." Mr. John said. "Well, she and Josh were really close, now he's at college. And with Kennedy in New York, I guess she's losing all her friends. And, let's not forget the cancer." She said. Wait, Morgan has cancer?! "Hun, she doesn't have it. You do and you're dealing with it better than she is." Mr. John said. "Mrs. Jenny has cancer?" Jack whispered, listening with me. "Just go check on her, please." Mrs. Jenny said as we heard footsteps walk down the hallway and the stairs.

I quickly slipped on my shoes. "Where are you going?" Jack asked. "To check on Morgan." I said, reaching for the door handle. "Whatever, mate." He said, going back to his bed. I slipped out of our room and found my way to the horse stable. As I entered, I found at least 5 use stalls. Missy, Brady, Payton, Claire, and Caspian were the names over the stalls. Caspian, it's a horse, not a guy... Caspian's stall door was opened slightly. I looked in to see an empty plate, a chestnut brown horse, and Morgan, sleeping with her head on the horse's stomach. She's really pretty. "There she is. I knew she'd be ok." I heard Mr. John say from behind me, startling both me and the horse. The horse lifted his head up, looked at us, then Morgan. "Do you mind taking her upstairs? I'm not as strong as I use to be." Mr. John whispered, picking up her plate. "Of course." I said, walking over to her. As I bent down to pick her up, the horse made a noise when my hands came near her. "Caspian, he's fine. He's taking her up to bed." Mr. John said to the horse. I picked up Morgan under her knees and back; she snuggled into me as we walked into the house. "Her room is across from yall's upstairs." Mr. John said as we got to the stairs. When we got to her room, Mrs. Jenny was there to open the door and draw the covers. I gently laid Morgan down on her bed and drew the covers over her. "Thank you, Finn." Mrs. Jenny said, placing her hand on my shoulder. "No problem." I said as she and Mr. John left her room. I watched Morgan sleep for a little before I turned her lights off and headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed.

A Castle in a Teacup
One might say that to anger forces beyond the ken of fragile breakable mortals is a bad idea, others might say that meddling in dark forces with little chance of gain is also a bad idea, they would both be right by on all counts but they forget to mention also how incredibly stupid combining both of those things are. Stupid people don’t last so long on the mystic side of things, normal folks who wander over to the other side have a tendency to do one of two things, either A. figure out that the best thing to do is keep their head down and not draw attention from any entity that refers to humanity as “you mortals” , or B. something horrifying happens to them. As you may have guessed I fell into the second category, mostly because I thought there was a third option. See I though there must be an option C, an option where I got to end up not as some shitty back ally wizard cowering at the chance of discovery, praying that one of my wards or spells wouldn’t be noticed by something that goes bump in the night. No I would be the one who rose above all that. I would never have to be afraid. Well I made a good attempt at it that’s for damn sure, but unfortunately for me it turns out there is not an option C. At least not for me…
