It was now the end of the day and everyone was finally going home after a long day at school or work. There was a week and a half until school was finally over. Joel was excited about graduation. She was going to make sure you show up. Joel went up to your house, knocking loudly on the door. Cayden answered.

He looked somewhat worried, but not really. He was way happier at school. Maybe he did have a heart.

"Hey is (y/n) here?" Joel asks.

"If you are here to bully her go away." Cayden says.

"I'm her friend thank you very much!" Joel scoffs. "And when did you start caring about her you ass."

Joel stomps her foot in anger. Even though Cayden was trying to seem unfazed, he was starting to get annoyed.

"Oh wait... aren't you the headmaster's daughter? Hah, you must think you deserve everything don't you?" Cayden laughs sarcastically.

"Where the FUCK is (y/n) you dumb—"

"I don't fucking know!!" Cayden snaps. "I've been worried all day! She didn't come home yesterday!"

"She's didn't?" Joel's aggressive attitude vanishes completely. Now she was now looking at Cayden with concern.

"Listen just go away. I don't have time for this." Cayden grumbles.

"Why aren't you calling the cops!" Joel yells, her voice cracking.

"Why should I? They don't care and neither do I. She probably ran away.... what do I care?" Cayden slams the door shut.

Joel bangs on the door with her fist.

"You have to care! You are her family! Don't be a dick Cayden...."

Cayden sat in the other side of the door.

He was worried, but for all the wrong reasons. He felt the need to comfort you when he saw you cry. Humans tend to do things like that, but after a few days, the caring attitude went away and the it's back to business. He didn't hate you like he claimed to, but he doesn't really know you well enough to say that he truly cares. He was more worried about how his dad would feel than anything.

He pitied you and that was all.

Pity.

Your life was a sad story and he pitied you just like he would if you were some sort of movie protagonist, but when the movies over, all previous feeling disappear with the credits.

Cayden was just confused.

Maybe if it was easy to find someone, he would bother looking for you.

...

Joel slowly walked home. You were gone.

Joel couldn't believe it. You just up and disappeared. You wouldn't run away right? You were stronger than that... weren't you?

Once Joel got home, she didn't even bother saying hello to her mother like she always did. She went straight up to her room and she cried. It was an ugly cry, like she's lost everything. You were her only friend, the only person that listened to her rant about stuff. The only person that cared about her opinions.

Maybe if her dad let her have more friends, she wouldn't care as much. It was a horrible thought, but it's true. If she had more friends, you wouldn't be on her mind all the time and then maybe... just maybe... she wouldn't feel so shitty.

Too bad things didn't turn out like that...

You were her only friend and she needed to get you back.

She was going to find you. She had to.

...

When you woke up from your nap, it was around late afternoon. The sun had been at it's highest about an hour ago and because that was the hottest time of the day, the house wasn't as cold. The small flame in the chimney had dwindled down into nothing long ago.

You decide to explore again, but first you needed to change. Even thought the house wasn't freezing anymore, your outfit did nothing to warm you up from the remaining cold air that was still present.

The bedroom was upstairs and to the right, but you didn't remember which door or was. You found another bathroom, a hallway closet, an guest bedroom that you were going to explore later, and a few other doors that were locked. Cain's room... at least you think it's his room, was at the very end of the right hallway. When you walked in, you immediately went searching through the closet. This was definitely Cain's room.

In the closet was lots of button ups. He had a few normal shirts too, but they weren't anything special. They were all long sleeved. You grab one of his shirts, removing your gown and slipping the shirt over your body. The shirt was oversized, even for Cain, so it fit you like a short dress. The sleeves were long and provided you with a bit of warmth, but you had to pull them up if you wanted to use your hands.

It felt weird wearing a normal shirt. You've never actually worn one before. You've only ever worn tight dresses, button ups, and itchy overly-expensive sweaters. It was comfortable, but it didn't really make you feel different. You didn't really think it took away from your femininity like your mother used to tell you. Maybe you should try on pants next time.

You quickly walked back to the guest room. There were a few cobweb on the corners if the ceiling, but other than that, the room was quiet clean. The bed had white sheets, white pillows, and a red duvet. It was a queen sized bed. The walls were painted pure white and the floors shared the same dark colored wood that could be found all over the second floor. There was a vanity pushed up against the wall right across from the bed that was also painted white. The mirror on it was cracked all over.

Inside one of the drawers of the vanity was an old wooden comb and dust along with a tiny spider weaving a web. You closed the draw and let the spider be. He other drawer were empty. Leaving the room, you eyes instantly drift to the left as you look down the dark abyss, which was the left wing of the house.

There was something down there.

A pet perhaps? Did Cain even have any pets?

You take slow steps towards the darkness again. You were going deeper and deeper into what looked like the void. Then you caught sight of it...

Red glowing eyes.

You reach your hand out, still taking slow steps down the hall.

"Cain?" You whisper.

You didn't know why you whispered. There was no reason to be quiet, but you whispered nonetheless.

"Cain."

You were about to take another step, when arms wrap around you waist. You felt pressure on your shoulder as whoever was holding you rest their head on it.

You freeze, your body goes stiff, but your heart remained calm.

"I'm home." It was Cain... it was just Cain. "What are you doing?" Cain asks, grabbing you by the hand and leading you back towards the light. He takes you back down stairs.

"Exploring." You say.

"Really now? Why were you calling my name." Cain asks with a smirk.

"I thought I saw you.... I guess I was wrong."

Cain stops walking for a second. His eyes widen a slightly, but since you were behind him, you didn't see.

He suddenly relaxes, smiling.

"So you missed me?" Cain mumbles.

"Or maybe it's the lack of food." Cain shoulder's droop at you reply.

You squeeze Cain's hand gently. You've read in books that doing that could be used as a sigh of affection or as a way to comfort. "And that too."

Cain blushes. He does that a lot.

"Really?" Cain says, his voice going up an octave.

Cain lead you all the way to the kitchen. His kitchen looked old. You weren't really paying attention to it earlier. He had a stove, but it was the type that you had to light manually. You had knowledge on how to use them, you've learned from books, but you've never actually seen or used one. He also had a few modern appliances. He had a refrigerator and a microwave. You wondered why.

"I bought you some food." Cain said.

"I know you wanted to cook... I did too, but I still have things to take care of so I bought you take out."

"Okay." You say.

"I brought groceries too so we can cook tomorrow. Okay?" Cain pets your hair.

You nod.

You hop up on the counter. You really liked sitting up there.

The groceries were placed on the floor next to the fridge. He had a bunch of candy and ramen in one bag. Your eyes twinkle as you think about the candy.

"Can I have another lollipop?" You say.

"You should eat some real food first." Cain notices you clothing. "You changed... is that... is that my shirt?" He asks, clearly flustered.

You looked so cute in it. Cain just wanted to scoop you up and cuddle you forever. He's always been wise and patient. He was supposed to be the mature friend, but you really did drive him crazy. How was he supposed to be calm and collected when you keep giving him reasons to fanboy. Just looking at you activated several feeling in him... some innocent, some....not so innocent, Cain was starting to realize that he couldn't really live as just a friend like he wanted to.

You just had to be so irresistible didn't you?

"It is... is that a problem?" You ask, arching an eyebrow.

"Not at all!" Cain says, waving his hand. "It... It looks good on you."

It looked more than just good on you. You looked stunning. You looked stunning in anything. You could put on a trash bag and make it look like it was a million dollars.

"It looks really good." Cain says, scratching the back of his neck.

You stare into Cain's eyes and you sigh...

And then you smiled.
