《Whirl》chapter 11

"Come on, August. I want to take a picture in front of Big Ben," Josie said, pulling him excitingly towards the tower the following day.

August could only please the girl. Her energy was addicting. She was so joyful and happy about every single little thing. He would take her to every place in the world if he got to see her smile like she was in this moment.

"Alright, baby. Slow down before you yank my arm out of the socket," he said, not able to contain his smile. He had driven past the clock tower a few times in years past, but never had it looked so amazing as it did with Josie right in front of it.

She slowed, standing close to August as the crowds of people thickened. She was suddenly very apprehensive about going closer.

August wrapped his arm around her shoulders. "We can take a picture from here," he offered.

Josie nodded, staying close to his side. He extended his long arm to snap a photo and they were actually the perfect distance from the tower.

They had been running around all morning, trying to cram everything into their one and only full day in the city. August had to work late this evening and early tomorrow, and then they'd be on a flight back.

"I think we deserve a lunch break. How do you feel about fish and chips? I have a perfect spot in mind," August said low in her ear.

"That sounds great. Today has been perfect. I really appreciate you spending time with me," Josie said sincerely.

"I would do anything for you. It has definitely been the best day," he said, kissing her forehead.

The restaurant was small and quaint. It was the kind of place that you never forgot about.

"I think I will have dreams about this lunch," Josie smiled, pushing her nearly empty plate back.

"I'll bring you back every time you crave it. That's a promise," August said, pulling out his wallet.

"I can pay for mine, August," she tried to tell him, but he sent her a dark look that sent shivers of excitement down her spine.

"If you're with me, I'm paying. That's final. Don't bring it up again."

Josie bit her lip to contain her smile. She kind of liked pushing his buttons.

He couldn't help the heat that flooded his body at the look on Josie's face. He could tell that she liked to stir the pot, and his mind seemed to run with thoughts that fueled the fire.

August helped her into her jacket, and as soon as he was out of the restaurant, his lips were on hers.

Josie was surprised to say the least. They were in the middle of the street, and the kiss only intensified the ache that filled her belly.

She released a soft sound, wrapping her arms around his back. He tasted minty, a piece of gum still in his mouth. He gave a sinister smile when she pulled away to breathe.

"If you look at me like that again, I'm going to have to take you back to the hotel."

Josie giggled. She liked that she could make August feel flustered. It made her feel special. He made her feel special. Nothing in her life had ever felt so right.

"Maybe next time," she teased, patting his chest, walking down the street.

He caught up easily, pulling her to his side. His heart was bursting with joy.

"Why do I feel like I've known you forever?" Josie asked as they walked arm in arm in a park, gaining their energy after a heavy lunch.

"I feel it too," August said softly. "Are we moving too fast?" He didn't want her to harbor any negative thoughts, knowing she was prone to them.

"No, I'm happier than I have ever been," she admitted, her already red cheeks darkening. "But I am worried about when we go home."

"Don't be worried," he soothed. "We'll make it work."
