《Whirl》chapter 9

Finally, it was time to go to London. Luckily for Josie's first flight, the time change wasn't too extreme.

August picked her up early morning. He stepped out in an immaculate suit, collecting her bags for her.

"Good morning," he greeted, leaning down to kiss her. "You look radiant, as always."

Josie tried to control the blush that threatened to take over. He was so sweet to her.

He helped her into the car, leaning over to buckle her belt, his thumb skimming dangerously on her hip. She sucked in a breath at his touch.

"I got you a coffee and a muffin," he said, handing her the bag.

"Thank you, August. You're so thoughtful," she said back, pushing up so she could place a kiss on his cheek.

August couldn't believe how lucky he was, how drastically his life had changed in a week. His thoughts were completely wrapped around the girl that sat beside him and he loved it. He loved to be consumed by her, to have someone who cared equally for him.

He couldn't believe that he had convinced her to travel with him in such a short time period. He was genuinely excited about showing her around the city. He could tell she was excited too, practically vibrating in her seat.

"I have a meeting as soon as we land. It'll take a few hours, so you can get settled in the hotel, or the driver who is picking us up can take you somewhere."

"Okay!" she exclaimed. "I'll probably just get settled and walk around places near the hotel."

They pulled right up to the plane on the runway. It was huge, especially knowing it was private. Someone was at the car immediately to grab their stuff. August guided her out of the car like she was his most precious cargo, keeping one of his large hands on the small of her back.

"Welcome, Mr. Walsh," the flight attendant and pilot greeted. Anybody who was in August's presence acknowledged him in some way. It was different for Josie to see him in his element. It made her feel a bit out of place, as they didn't even look in her direction.

August and Josie sat down in some luxurious, plush seats. He took the time to place her seatbelt once more, adjusting it so it laid properly against her shoulder and across her chest. Josie wasn't sure she could breathe with his hand brushing so intimately close.

"Are you excited?" August asked, his lips close to her ear. He had a teasing smile on his face. She wasn't sure what way he meant it, the trip or for him. "You're heart is racing."

"You seem to have that effect on people, August," she teased back, meeting his blue eyes.

"Only on you," he whispered, leaning down to brush his lips with hers.

"I'm also excited to fly on a plane, with you," she smiled.

August nuzzled her cheek, "Yes, you mentioned the other day you've never flown before. I enjoy it, and I think you will too."

"Why doesn't Max come with you? Isn't he your assistant?" Josie asked curiously. She imagined she would like to travel with the perky man.

"As if Levi would allow him to fly across the country, even with me," August scoffed with a smile. "Most of the time, I can handle the work myself, and Max can handle things at the office in the city. If it's something crucial, I usually have both of them come with me."

"So normally you go alone," she concluded, sensing an issue.

"I'm almost always alone, Josie," August admitted quietly.

"Not anymore," Josie smiled, taking his hand. "And if you need help with work, I imagine I can help some. I do have a business degree."

August had to be the luckiest man alive. He wanted the rest of his life to feel this way.

The flight attendant gave her spiel before going to her own seats. Josie watched from the small window as the plane picked up speed, and suddenly they were in the clouds. It was a thrill.

Josie turned, from where her eyes had been glued, to August who was pulling out his laptop. They unbuckled their belts.

"We're going to lose a few hours. You might want to take a nap. You can recline the chair or there's a small bed in the back," August told her.

"I don't think I'm going to sleep. I'll just sit here with you," she said, pulling out a book she had packed. She reclined her chair back and got settled.

August stood up which confused her. She was just getting comfortable. He returned with a huge, plush blanket, draping it over the both of them.

"Thank you," Josie said. She needed to do something special for him. He was so caring towards her, and she wanted to let him know that she truly appreciated everything he did. She wasn't sticking around just because she got to travel on a private plane or indulge in luxuries, she genuinely enjoyed spending time with someone who thought of her equally.
