《Whirl》chapter 8

August met Josie before she went to work at the usual coffee shop two days after the dinner at his house. They had been texting and talking on the phone non-stop since then.
He knew if he surrounded Josie with his presence, she would be more comfortable going with him to London. He also didn't want to be away from her, her energy was addicting.
"Hi, August," Josie greeted him shyly, setting down her cup and sliding into the booth he had chosen to sit at. She shrugged out of her winter jacket revealing an oversized, lavender colored sweater. She looked absolutely adorable.
"I'm so happy to see you," August murmured genuinely. She had quickly become the center of his world.
Josie was a little stunned at the sweet greeting, but August had been acting like she was important since the day he came into the flower shop.
He held up a finger to stop her from responding when his phone rang.
"What?" he snapped. She was shocked by his coldness. She didn't realize he could flip it on and off like a switch.
"I told you not to call unless there was a serious issue. This is not a serious issue," August huffed. "Next time take the problem to Max." He hung up the phone.
"Everything okay?" Josie asked.
"Fine," he breathed, clearly annoyed, but when his eyes met hers, he significantly relaxed. He reached across the table to grab her delicate hand with his, sliding his thumb gently back and forth. "Tell me what you decided about London."
Josie had given it a lot of thought. As a matter of fact, the thought had never left her head. She really wanted to go, but she was scared to take the leap. What if it was the wrong decision?

"What is the issue? Talk to me. I want to know," August said.
She met his eyes briefly before rushing out, "Are you expecting me to do something if I go? I won't sleep with you. I just really don't understand why you are so adamant about me going."
August was silent a moment, his lips pursed into a frown. "I like you. You've attracted me like no one else has, and every single second of everyday, you fill my thoughts. You hiked with me in the middle of nowhere, and you've already met the people I consider family. If this was all about fucking, I wouldn't have gone to this effort. You're special to me."
Josie was satisfied with that answer. She liked that he didn't beat around the bush "I'll double check I can take a few days off, and if I can, I will go with you."
August gave her a glimpse of a tender smile, "That makes me so happy, baby."
She blushed at the endearment, "I've got to go to work now. Maybe we could do dinner together? You could come to my place."
"I would love to. I'll text you," August said, standing up and shrugging into his jacket.
He and Josie stepped outside together, and she was warmed all over when he pulled her into a tight hug.
He rubbed her back, leaning down to kiss her cheek, leaving her tingly and giddy. Her heart threatened to flutter right out of her chest.
It had to have been the sweetest goodbye Josie had ever experienced.
---
August knocked on Josie's door that evening. He was surprised at how cute and cozy her little place was, just like her.
When Josie answered the door she was in leggings and a big sweatshirt. She was absolutely breathtaking. August was no longer surprised at his thoughts. He would never deny the effect this girl had on him.

August had changed into some casual sweatpants at Josie's request. She told him he was always dressed up, and all he needed to be was comfortable.
She ushered him inside, and shut the door, blocking out the cold.
"You look great," she blushed shyly, "but you always do." She enjoyed his casual look just as much as his suits.
Her heart was beating rapidly in her chest at the soft, endearing look August cast upon her. He soaked her in like a wet sponge.
He gave her a small smile, before pulling her close. She took in his home-y, masculine scent that surrounded her. She had learned that she truly enjoyed being in his presence, and there was a part of her that was only alive when he was around.
August bent his head to press his lips to hers, shocking Josie to the core. Never had she felt so loved and hot at the same time.
Josie curled her arms under his and around his back, tilting her head at the kiss. Just as it felt like it was getting started, August pulled away. He leaned down to kiss her neck, both of them out of breath and in another world.
She was definitely going to London now.

War of Seasons
Dorothea Atlin is the young, apathetic leader of the neutral territory of Sirpo, a chilly land hovering above the continuously warring factions of Sacer and Ghuria, whose devastating magics have ravaged their people and lands time and time again. Following a shocking attack and a cruel deception, Dorothea grows her conscience and takes up arms, using her self-destructive ability to manipulate the flow of time to ensure Sacer’s victory. Her growing understanding of war and the two factions is guided by Iree Nobelis, the determined and enthralling commander of Sacer’s forces, Ariana Kingfisher, a steely swordswoman of mixed Ghurian and Sacerian descent, and Rhys Tamlin, a kind but haunted soldier who goes to challenge Dorothea’s self-imposed celibacy and join her on a mutual journey of healing from the tragic legacies of the Atlin family and wars between the nations. Meanwhile, Dorothea’s only friend and deserter from the Sacerian military, Shark Olyen, returns to their homeland to face the family that disowned them and finds more than they bargained for in meeting Cerid Creed, a noble whose duty to his people clashes with his desires in romance and in life, much like Shark’s did long before. As their developing or preexisting loves and differing convictions on how to achieve peace create rifts between these major players, Dorothea experiences a personal revolution that leads her to fight for what she believes is right, no matter the cost. A slow-burn story that takes time setting up the psychology and motivations of characters for explosive payoff later down the line.
