《The Catastrophes》Chapter 4 - Boston Austin

Boston Austin looked down from his perch, high above the city of Portopolis. He wasn’t sure why heroes were supposed to do this. It’s not like he could actually see any crime from this high and his fear of heights wasn’t helping, either. Who had ever heard of a hero that was afraid of heights? No one. That’s who. He wasn’t a hero. He knew that. Everyone knew that, actually no, they didn’t. They all thought he was a hero just because he stopped a bank robbery once. It didn’t help that the league of heroes, Boston Chapter, signed him up as a publicity stunt. That’s where the Boston Austin had come from, but he was really from Canada. The publicity stunt had failed as there was still only one chapter of the League of Heroes, but it had been great getting his career off the ground. He had even been able to get a movie deal out of it, but the sequel had fallen flat when it was discovered that he couldn’t act. Still, the comic book was going strong and there was talk of reboot with a new actor once his publicist had said that he had been unable to devote the time needed for a movie and keep the city safe. The public ate that junk up and once the movie was underway, he could comfortably sit back and enjoy the royalties for possibly the rest of his life.
“Mr. Austin, do you think you could move a little closer to the edge?”
Could he move closer to the edge? They already had him halfway out on a 100-year-old gargoyle, any further out, and the damn thing would probably snap in half. “You know I can fly, right?”
“Don’t need you to fly, just to crawl, sir.”
“Fine,” Austin snapped back, inching his way out toward the tip. Apparently, he didn’t need a safety harness to die. This stupid photo being more important than his own life. He looked down. It was so far down. The people below him only black specks and the cars were no bigger than rain drops. He could feel his muscles clenching up as he crept even further out on the ledge. There was a loud crack, and he dropped.

Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5

"Do you like limes? I do. Quite a lot. They are the sweetest dessert I can think of. And I love my desserts. As it always has been." Evan said, upon being asked his favorite thing in the world. "The best lime comes from a world destroyed. An apocolyptic world. That is the only place you can find sweet limes. Or, at least, limes as sweet as the one I love so very much." Evan said, upon being asked where to find sweet limes.

Creature Feature: InGen Hybrids
The fossil record is obviously incomplete, which means InGen's experiments with the hybridisation of various prehistoric creatures are probably not over. With that in mind, this guide is likely incomplete. But if you're writing Jurassic Park or Jurassic World fanfiction, or stories told within that pretty awesome universe, then any of the creatures found in these fair pages should be considered entirely canon!
