《Soul Status (HIATUS)》Chapter 1

As I started walking down the path I began to think what course of action I should take in order for me to somehow graduate the school. But the more I thought of it, the more I realized that there really wasn't any viable solution for me to somehow pass the courses and graduate from the school.
At this prospect I raised my hand to my hair and began to ruffle through it. I thought to myself "This isn't the time for me to wallow around the ground and give up, first I must take this step by step.". With this chain of thought I decided to first assess my abilities because I must no matter how small my resources are make the best out of it.
First my fighting capabilities aren't that bad due to me helping out the farm kill the low-leveled beasts that often come to eat our crops. But I'm not a top notch fighter because at most I can only handle 5 Lv. 1-10 common beast but, there was a time that I was able to defeat a common magic beast of Lv.7 just that it took me a long time for me to kill it due to it using magic unlike the other beasts I faced which couldn't.
Next is my magic which is mediocre at best since my mana reserves is smaller compared to others. Plus I only know water, earth, and nature magic but it is mostly related to growing crops and I only know a few combat spells. Finally I do know how to farm, dismantle, and cook these are all the abilities I know I have.
Honestly these abilities I listed are pretty bad compared to the other people with a status, but this is all I have and I will make the best out of it. After all of this thinking I realized that a few hours have passed and that the sun was setting down so I decided that it was time for me to make camp.

I got out of the path I was walking on and instead I began to sit down on the vast grassy plains that surrounded the path along with my bag as well. After I got comfortable I grabbed my bag and opened it and got out the rations I have prepared which was the crops from the farm.
I began eating some of it slowly but surely to appease the hunger that I had and I also just began to lay down in the grass staring upward at the sky. It was about to be night as I saw the moon slowly coming out as the sun was setting down and I finishing off one of the rations.
It was really peaceful to me as it was deadly silent nothing could be heard at this point I felt very sleepy and my eyelids were about close and take me to sleep. Until I willed myself not to and I scrambled taking my bag with me away from the spot I was laying down on.
As I increased the distance I saw that there was a hazy purple smoke coming from where I was and that secondly there was something coming out of the grass where the smoke is. I moving my hands fast as I could went into my bag to get my weapon which was a dagger and luckily I quickly got it out.
But there was a problem I immediately noticed that my movements were sloppy as my whole body felt like mush and my vision was getting all blurry and with those combined I felt like I was about to fall and become unconscious. Before that happened though I inwardly thought "No I can't fall down here because if I do I'll most likely die by the thing that set all of this up. I can't just do that I must live for my parents and myself I want to still live.".

With that encouragement I somehow sustained myself and took a stance with my dagger albeit it was sloppy, but it was better than nothing. I began to see with my wavy blurred sight that the thing that was sprouting looked to be a mushroom which had a black cap and was also small in size, but what surprised me was what it had above its cap.
Uncommon Magic Beast Black Cap Mushroom Lv.9>
"Damn what the heck is a beast of that caliber doing here there shouldn't be anything that strong. How the heck am I supposed to defeat it with my weak condition the only reason I didn't fall unconscious is because it was strangely quiet and the way I was about to sleep was unnatural. Okay calm down and look for a solution one step at a time." this is what was running through my mind at the time I saw the rarity and the level of the black cap mushroom.
As I was focusing on the mushroom I felt that the grass below was snuggling against my ankles and that's when I realized something and mouthed the words "Oh shoot". I immediately swung my dagger frantically at the grass below, I observed that the grass was actually moving and wrapping around my ankles with carefulness.
Luckily my dagger was able to cut the grass and I hurriedly shuffled away from the mushroom while waving the dagger back and forth to the grass that had now sprung forth trying to reach out to me. As this continued on my whole body began to wobble and my vision began to darken around the corners and I could only stay conscious by clenching my teeth hard, but then while retreating I stumbled and fell backwards and I could only hope that I got out of range.
I looked up and saw that the grass even though was trying to reach me it couldn't and the reason was that the mushroom's magic range didn't reach that far after all there is a limit to how far magic can reach depending on the one using it. The good thing was that I could sense that it was magic due to me also having the same magic which was nature magic and I could feel how its mana was flowing to the grass controlling them to the mushroom's bidding.
Thanks to that I was able to cook up a plan of getting far away from the mushroom as possible so that its magic couldn't reach me in which it was successful, and I could only weakly smile at this and my intuition was right when I thought that the mushroom couldn't move from its spot it was currently in.
I flipped myself over as due to that purple gas I now don't have any strength to stand up so I began to crawl away from the estimated magic range of the mushroom and I stayed parallel with the path, while I was doing this I realized that my right hand was grasping the bag in which luckily I haven't dropped while retreating.
As I dragged myself I felt all the power in my body dissipate and I couldn't move anymore so I just flipped myself over, and watched the night sky with the moon high up and the star shining with glamour. I now began to close my eyelids so that I could get some shut-eye and rest, after closing them I instantly let my body loose and I began to sleep.

The Laptop Hero (Portal/Isekai LitRPG)
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - April 2022 Silas got summoned to another world—by a group of kids attending magic school who seemed rather unhappy with the results of their ritual. After a brief glimpse of his summoners Silas woke in the town dump. Unable to speak the local language, a misunderstanding escalated and before long Silas wound up in a jail cell, the locals having confiscated all his worldly possessions aside from his laptop, which had formed some strange bond with him. Now he can summon his laptop at will, and he can view his Status, level up, and gain powerful skills and magic as if he were some character in a video game, which is great and everything, but all Silas really wants to do is sit in a dark room and play games on his laptop. Only, life isn't a game, and Silas needs to get his act together because everyone else is playing for keeps. Or does he? Maybe for Silas life is just one big game now, with everyone else stuck playing by his rules. Assorted Disclaimers, in no particular order: I am only posting this on RoyalRoad.com, so if you find my story elsewhere it was not posted by me. Please do let me know! While I do consider this a progression fantasy, and have tagged it as such, Silas's Status improvements will not necessarily proceed in a linear fashion. His RPG stats will have ups and downs, exploits and nerfs, periods of growth and stagnation. Such is the life of a gamer, to be held under the thumb of the all powerful devs, or in this case a certain goddess devoted to the idea of Balance. SIlas himself should learn and grow, improving and progressing in areas where he struggles, or rather, to show such is my goal. The story is told from multiple points of view. While other PoVs will come and go, Silas shall remain the only lead character. The world Silas finds himself on is not a nice place. Expect him to encounter gore and traumatizing content and bad people who do bad things for selfish (or possibly noble) reasons from time to time. Some characters will use profanity, however due to cultural differences the curse words used will differ from those used in our corner of reality, so I'm not including the profanity content warning. Silas himself isn't one for foul language. No explicit sexual content here. This novel is intended for mature readers, however, and will include mature topics, including, but not limited to, sex, violence, death, and taxes. No harem. Might be an eventual romantic interest, possibly even some competitive jealousy, yet as his story begins Silas is too overwhelmed with other concerns to consider long term plans. Musophobics might want to steer clear of this story. Same goes for turophobics. You have been warned. Keep in mind, however, if my other disclaimers didn't make this clear, I only have the faintest of outlines at the moment. This story will take me where it will. My goal with this story is to write it to the end, something of a long-term writing exercise, with the hope others might take an interest in my work and encourage me to keep at it. I've started a number of works before, even finished a few, but this is the first time I've shared any work in a public forum. My temporary cover was made by me, in GIMP using public domain images. If you can do better I'll happily accept your submission and give credit for your work here!
