《Room Mates (NaLu)》Chapter 18 ~ Fairly Local

Today was a hot day.
Me and Natsu had decided to walk to the local park after passing by the local grocery store to buy food. It was a big park; thriving, green trees peppering the lush field of grass and flowers, a little pond planted in the centre and benches dotted around.
People were spread throughout the park. Children danced around, having water fights or playing little games of tag. Parents sat, talking to eachother about how great the hot weather was, or how their co-worker was once again P'ing them off.
Me and Natsu delved into the natureous world, holding hands. We found a spot of serenity, a little quieter than the main areas of the large park. We placed down the blanket and food. Together we lay on the blanket, head to head, looking up into the sky.
The sun tickled our skin as it shone down through the towering trees. We laughed and joked, pointing at the sky when a cloud passed by shaped like a deformed elephant.
"Hey Natsu?" I asked, breaking the quiet silence we were previously experiencing, lay on our backs looking up.
He turned his head to look at me.
"Yeh?"
"Remember when we met?" I said, looking back up into the sky.
"I was going to open the door of our dorm when you beat me to it." A happy giggled escaped my lips as I reminisced the moment. "Then you told me you weren't interested in me, as I was apparently begging you to sleep with me."
He let out a throaty chuckle.
"Did I really say that?" He laughed, shaking his had as he looked back up to the clear sky.
"That was a funny day. I was so shocked that my room mate was a boy." I carried on, placing my arms behind my head. "I was so confused at lunch, getting so many dirty looks from girls at other tables. They were jealous I was friends with you"
"Well what can I say" Joked Natsu, now propping his head on his elbow to look at me. "Have you see his beautiful face?" He said, gesturing with his free hand to himself.
I laughed once again, gently pushing his arm with my hand, causing him to fall back into his back. Seconds later my body was invaded by tickles. Natsu crouched over me, fingers prodding and pocking at all parts, trying to find my most ticklish areas. I screamed for him to stop, unwillingly laughing loudly as I rolled around on the floor, trying to escape his wild grasp.

"NO Natsu p-AHH-please!" I yelled, swatting my hands in all directs, hoping to eventually make contact with something and stop the violent tickling shooting around my body.
The tickling suddenly stopped as two hands pinned down my arms, stopping my sporadic swatting. I opened my eyes from their shut state.
"Woah! You nearly hit my face there!" Said Natsu, cheekily grinning.
"That's where I was aiming!" I retorted, wiggling a hand from beneath his grasp and patting his cheek softly.
"Oi!" He gasped, lunged forward to tickle me again. This time I rolled away onto the grass, dodging his finicky fingers.
"A HA!" I shouted, pointing at him as he face planted the floor, expecting my body to be there. We both ended up laughing before regaining composure and sitting back together on the blanket. The comfortable silence awoke again. The sounds of tweeting birds and rustling trees cascaded through the air.
"So what do you think of Mavis and Zeref? Do you like them?" I asked Natsu, now calmed down from our random hyperactive surge.
"Yeh, they're really nice!" Replied Natsu, smiling.
"They're the closest I have to parents, I hope you don't feel like it was too early to meet them..." I pondered, looking at Natsu's expression nervously.
"Not at all Luce. Nothings to quick with us." He said, delicately placing his hand around my cheek, pulling me in for a soft kiss. I closed my eyes as our lips touched, opening them again as we pulled away.
A few hours later me and Natsu had ate some snacks, chilled in the park a little longer and we're now heading to the movie theatre to meet Mavis and Zeref.
After parking up, we headed inside.
"Hi!"I called, greeting the two with a hug, Natsu doing the same to mavis, then shaking Zeref's hand and pulling him in for a 'bro hug'.
"What movie are we watching?" Asked Natsu, as we all made our way to buy the tickets.
"I kinda feel like a romance" swooned Mavis happily, we all laughed.
"What about some kind of action?" Suggested Zeref.
Soon enough a movie had been decided and we bought the tickets. We queued to buy some popcorn, nachos and drinks, before entering the cinema room.
-
"That was sick!" Yelled Zeref as we left the movies theatres. "I can't believe that evil guy won in the end, such a plot twist"

"I know right? I never saw that coming!" Replied Natsu.
The two boys conversed a while about the movie while Mavis sulked at the fact she didn't get to watch about romance.
-
After getting back to Mavis and Zeref's, me and Natsu had started packing up. We were going back home tonight and it was already late.
"This weekend has been great" Said Natsu as he threw his clothes into his suitcase. I nodded in agreement as I carefully folded mine.
"It's nice to see family again, I felt like I hadn't seen them in ages." I replied, now placing my toiletries in my bag.
Natsu's smile faded, a sad look now rested in his eyes.
"Hey maybe we should visit your dad next week?" I said, trying to cheer him up. He had mentioned living with his dad when I'd met Wendy, but I wasn't to sure about his mother.
He looked down at the floor.
"Natsu is everything okay?" I asked, getting up from where I was sat and going to sit beside him.
"No. Not really" Natsu said quietly. He carried on looking at the floor, not making eye contact.
I shuffled closer to him and wrapped arm around him.
"Talk to me Natsu. I'm here."
There was a pause.
"It's my dad." He said, taking a deep breath and looking into my worried eyes. My heart broke at his face, he looked so distraught.
"He went missing a year ago and no one's found anything. The police had been looking for him but stopped eventually after finding no lead." He continued, taking another shakey breath and looking back down.
"I just miss him. I want to know if he's okay. If he's... If he's even alive." He gulped.
I pulled him close, hugging him tightly. I had no idea how to comfort him. I wasn't good at comforting people. I couldn't reassure him his dad was okay because I honestly didn't know.
I rubbed his back gently, leaving a kiss on his cheek. A salty taste was left in my mouth as I realised he was crying. His tears silently fell down his cheeks, leaving trails of his sadness behind.
"Natsu." I whispered, lifting his chin to look at me.
"I'm sure your dad is fine. We can get in contact with the police and get them to start up the case again. They can't just stop looking. A missing person has to be found." I said, still rubbing his back in the process.
My hand caressed his cheek, wiping away a single tear with my thumb.
It truly broke my heart to see him like this but I'm happy he opened up to me.
"Yeh..." He replied. He stood up, wiping his face with his hands.
"Sorry Luce, I didn't mean to put a damper on the evening..." Natsu sighed, zipping up his suitcase and placing it to the side of the room.
"Not at all Natsu, these things need to be talked about--and I'm happy you're comfortable talking to me about these things" I replied.
"Obviously I don't understand exactly how you feel but... When my mother died I lived with my dad until a year ago, when he got into a car crash drink driving was when I moved here with Mavis and Zeref." I said quietly. It was a hard topic for me to talk about but I was a little used to it by now.
"I told you about my dad--how he acted when my mother first died. Even after 5 years he was still deep in depression; using alcohol as a solution. When he passed, it was more of a relief. He could finally rest with my mother." I finished.
"My mother died too." Natsu said, sitting back down next to me on the floor.
"I was only a baby."
"I'm sorry Natsu." I said, looking into his eyes apologetically.
He sighed, giving me a sad smile.
"These things happen" He stated, pushing himself up off the floor once again and stretching an arm down towards me.
"Come on, let's head home."
-
The mood eventually changed as me and Natsu headed back home. We sang our loudest to songs we didn't even know, messed around taking random routes and nearly getting lost. Soon enough we were home, tucked away in bed.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

They meet in the most unlikely moment and turned their life around. Freidrech newly arrived in his own nation's capital city, which is so foreign to him compared to his village's idyllic and nondiscriminatory atmosphere, after he is forced to come. Now, he is facing a royal prince and tells him to bow. This draws out one of his late father's teachings from the deepest recesses in his mind. "The blood of your great ancestors runs in your veins. Don't easily bow down to anyone, or accept suppression by any being, not even from a monarch, unless you pledge your allegiance to him. Also, giving in to oppression is directly telling the oppressor that you're easy prey and open for manipulation." He is uncertain on how to face this oppression right now. Will he bows or not? What will he do to uphold his father's words while keeping his life safe? As for the prince, Theodrech has nothing to do with Freidrech, so he wishes to let this slip, but the boy opens his mouth and proposes the most ludicrous challenge he ever heard and triggers his curiosity. "I, Freidrech Goederf Gerboud, son of the late Village Chief Louvel Gerboud of Wrilon, will challenge you, Your Highness, to a battle of riddles… If you win, I will not only bow but be your servant for the rest of my life." This amuses the prince. It is the first he met a boy of the same age who is not intimidated by the air of authority he projects. Rather, this boy challenges him. "Why are you so headstrong? In fact, bowing to me is an honor. You saw the King's noble Knights. When they saw me, they bowed," says Theodrech, testing Freidrech. "Allow me to be forward, Your Highness. For me, bowing to a monarch does not guarantee loyalty. If I were you, I rather have men who stand straight in my presence but who got my back, than bowing men who are dreaming of my death," replies Freidrech. The prince’s curiosity increases. A huge smile is seen on his face. Prince Theodrech decides to take Freidrech under his wing. Little did they know, this boy who Prince Theodrech takes in as his confidant and friend in the most ridiculous fashion is someone indispensable in his life and the one who can help him succeed the throne when he almost believes he has lost. Thus, the Tales of the Legendary Scholar begins. ------ o ------ Old Synopsis: A famous ancient adage stated, behind a successful man is a woman BUT… In these lands, the monarchs are seeking not a woman to stand behind them but the man hailed as the Legendary Scholar. You don't kiss your best friend on the neck and have them weak by the time it's over. It's funny like that, isn't it? You do all these things and I allow you to do so. I wouldn't have allowed this a few years ago. But what can I say? Everyone changes when they're in love. Maybe that's why you haven't changed. Not one bit. - - - - - - - - - -A collection of short stories I've written about Brett and Eddy. Enjoy!
