《My Precious Flower》Chapter 10: Long Lost Uncle

Mirabel and (Y/n) followed the rats up the stairs and down the hall. They rounded the corner and saw one of the rats squeezing itself behind a picture frame.
Mirabel knelt down and poked the frame, and it creaked. She pulled it open to reveal a secret passage.
Mirabel and (Y/n) climbed through it and made their way inside. The cracks were happening inside the walls too.
(Y/n) gasped and grabbed Mirabel's arm when a rat ran passed her feet towards a misty part of the tunnel.
The piece in its mouth seemed to leviate in the air, until lightning flashed revealing the silhouette of a figure.
The two girls gasped in shock before the figure ran away. The two snapped out of their stunned state and chased after him.
The figure jumped up to a higher level, while the two slid down to a lower one. They looked up at him as he ran and made his way down some stairs. Mirabel and (Y/n) slid on the ground breaking the bottom stair so they could get out.
...
"It's okay, Mamí. Deep breath in, deep breath out." Camilo said soothingly to his mother as he held a cup of tea in his hands.
Suddenly, Mirabel rammed into the wall behind her, causing Pepa to shoot a lightning bolt that hit Camilo, causing him to shift into different people.
...
Mirabel and (Y/n) were still chasing after the man.
"Stop! Stop!" Mirabel yelled at him.
She almost grabbed him, but he leapt over a large hole in the ground by bouncing off of boards that were sticking out.
Mirabel froze and held her hand out to stop (Y/n).
They looked up and saw the figure round a corner. They took a deep and leapt across the hole, but as they landed on the other side, the boards underneath them gave away and they fell.
Mirabel grabbed a bamboo support with one hand, and grabbed (Y/n)'s hand with the other. The weight was a bit too much for the bamboo stick and it started to break.
"No! No! Help! Help..." she called.
"Casita! Casita!" (Y/n) cried.
"Help us! Help us!" Mirabel yelled, as her hand slipped from the stick.
But before they fell, a hand grabbed Mirabel's. They looked up and saw Bruno looking down at them.
"You're very sweaty." He commented.
Suddenly, the boards underneath him gave away too. Luckily, (Y/n) grabbed a branch with her hand. Mirabel held onto her Tío's hand while her other hand was still grasping (Y/n)'s.

They both looked down at Bruno, who smiled up at them, just as a rat crawled out of his sleeve and up his arm.
This scared Mirabel and she accidentally let go of Bruno's hand and he fell into the misty abyss.
After a few moments though, his head popped up out of the fog.
He waved his hand to reveal the floor was only a few feet away from the hole.
"Hmm." He said.
Mirabel and (Y/n) helped him up and he looked down the hole and back at the two.
"Bye." Was all he said and he walked away.
"Wait what? Nuh-uh. Hold on!" (Y/n) marched after him, Mirabel following behind her.
(Y/n) scurried after him. "Wait, wait! Why did you take the vision?"
"Knock, knock, knock, knock, knock. Knock on wood." Bruno knocked on the wooden walls, before holding his breath and crossing his fingers as he walked down a hallway.
"What does it mean? Is it why you came back or...Tío Bruno?" Mirabel gave her uncle a weird look when he saw what he was doing.
"Knock, knock, knock, knock, knock. Knock on wood." He repeated. "You two were never supposed to see that vision. No one was."
"But..."
"A little salt." Bruno cut Mirabel off by throwing salt in her face.
She started spitting the salt out as (Y/n) snickered at her and she glared at her.
"Sugar." He threw some sugar behind him and it hit (Y/n) in the face.
She crossed her arms and pouted causing Mirabel to laugh at her.
They came into a room, where the cracks that the house had were filled in with cement.
"Wait, have you been in here patching the cracks?" Mirabel asked.
"Oh, that? No, no, no. I'm too scared to go near those things. All the patching's done by Hernando." Bruno explained.
"Who is Hernando?" (Y/n) asked.
"I'm Hernando, and I'm scared of nothing!" It was just Bruno talking in a deep voice with his hood pulled over his face.
😂😂😂
"It's actually me." He spoke in his normal voice, pulling his hood back. "I used to say my real Gift was 'acting.' "
Mirabel and (Y/n) shared a look, and Mirabel discreetly scooted closer to (Y/n).
Bruno now had a bucket on his head. "I'm Jorge. I make the spackle."
"Um...how long have you been...back here?" (Y/n) forced out.
...
They were now in Bruno's main room where he kept all his stuff. The place was crawling with rats.

"You never left." Mirabel realized.
"Well, I left my tower, which was, you know, a lot of stairs."
"Tell me about it." (Y/n) muttered.
"And here, eh, kitchen adjacent." He held up an arepa to show them.
"Ooh, Ooh, plus, free entertainment." He grabbed a nearby rat and put it down in front of a makeshift theater.
"So, what do you like? You like sports? Game shows? Maybe a telenovela? They're love could never be."
"I don't understand." Mirabel admitted.
"Well because she's his aunt and she has amnesia so she can't remember she's his aunt. It's like a very forbidden kind of..."
"I don't understand why you left, but didn't leave." Mirabel clarified.
"Oh, well, because, huh, the mountains around the Encanto are pretty tall. And, uh, like I said, free food and everything. You guys love free food, don't you?"
He turned to the rats and Mirabel and (Y/n) saw a crack of light coming from the wall. They made their way over and peeked through the crack to see the kitchen.
Right up against the wall was a small table with a painted plate on it that said Bruno. They both felt sorry for the man, having to have been away from his family for so long.
"Yeah, my Gift wasn't helping the family, but, uh, I love my family, you know?" He said sheepishly.
"I just don't know how to...I just don't know how to..." He hesitated. "Well, anyway, I think you two should go, because, Um, I don't really have a good reason, but if I did you'd be like, 'I should go because that's a good reason.' "
"Why was I in your vision?" Mirabel asked. "Tío Bruno? I just wanted to make my family proud of me. Just once. But if I should stop, if I'm hurting my family, just tell me."
"I can't tell you...because I don't know." Bruno confessed.
He pulled out the pieces and put them together.
"I had this vision the night you didn't get your Gift. Abuela worried about the magic. So, she begged me to look into the future, and see what it meant. And I saw the magic in danger. Our house breaking. And then, and then, and then, I saw you. But the vision was different, it...it would change. And there was no one answer. No clear fate. Like your future was undecided. But I knew how it was gonna look. I knew what everyone would think because I'm Bruno and everyone always assumes the worst, so...so..."
"You left, to protect me?" Mirabel asked in shock.
"I don't know which way it'll go, but my guess...the family, the Encanto, the fate of the miracle itself...well, it's all gonna come down to you."
Mirabel looked intently at the vision in her hands, as she moved it so it switched between the house breaking and the house in tact. Suddenly, Bruno swiped it away from her.
"Or maybe I'm wrong. You know, it's a mystery. That's why this vision is...ppfbth." he made a thumbs down and blew a raspberry.
He guided Mirabel and (Y/n) to the door and showed them out.
"Look, if I could help anymore, I would, but that's all I know. Good luck, I wish I could've seen more." Bruno told them sympathetically, before closing the door.
"Yeah." Mirabel mumbled. (Y/n) sympathetically patted her shoulder, until Mirabel's face changed from sadness to realization. "Yeah." She said more firmly.
...
Bruno was holding a rat in his hands when Mirabel suddenly kicked the door open, causing Bruno to jump and throw the rat in the air.
"You wish you could've seen more, so see more!" Mirabel yelled. "Have another vision.
"Oh. No, no. See, I don't do visions anymore." Bruno sputtered
"But you could." (Y/n) pointed out.
"But I won't." He hid behind a broom.
"You can't say the weight of the world is on your shoulders. The end. If our fates up to me, me says have another vision. Maybe it'll show me what to do."
"Look, even if I wanted to, which I don't, you and your little friend wrecked my vision cave. Which is a problem, cause I need a wide open space." Bruno informed them.
"We'll find one." Mirabel said confidently.
"Where?" Bruno asked.
"Use my room." A small voice interrupted.
They all looked to the doorway and saw Antonio standing there surrounded by animals.
"The rats told me everything. Don't eat those." He scolded the jaguar who was about to eat the rats.
"Our family needs help." Mirabel insisted.
"And you need to get outta here." (Y/n) added, looking around the room with slight disgust, as she saw some rats cleaning themselves with toothbrushes.
"Meh." Bruno shrugged.

Legends of Balarel - A Leisurely LitRPG
Glenn Redwood has longed to become an Adventurer since he was a young boy, and has focused every waking moment on that goal since turning 14. Answering the challenge of the Gods of Balarel, he has fought Monsters, Leveled, and grown stronger. Yet the day before his 16th birthday, the day he will earn his dream or lose it forever ... the Gods have made a wager. And no mere mortal wishes to draw the attention of the Gods. ***** This is my crack at writing a leisurely LitRPG. My focus is more on telling interesting stories set in a world where people live under a MMORPG-like ruleset enforced by the Gods, and less on writing another story where the MC gets massive stat boosts every chapter before heading off to wreck the world. There will be plenty of blue tables (it’s LitRPG!) but my Adventurers are just starting out. This fic is about the journey, not the destination, so expect everyone to Level ... leisurely. Updates: M-T-W-Th. I’ll post 3000-4000 words a day, or 12000-15000 words a week. If this posting pace ends up being too much for me, I reserve the right to slow posts down a bit. Inspirations: Blessed Time (Royal Road) Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon? (Anime) Trails in the Sky (JRPG Series) MC: My MC is a genuinely good person who’s both a talented warrior and tactically savvy. He prefers to solve problems without violence but will resort to force if necessary to protect his friends or innocent people. I’m tired of stories starring anti-hero MCs facing endless doom and gloom, so I wanted to write a nice guy with an adventurous spirit who helps people in a thriving fantasy world. That’s all.
