《Iridescent (E. Cullen)》Chapter Ten

Biology is next on Zenaida's timetable. It's a basic staple of high school. Another class that she shares with Bella. The only problem is that everyone in that class already has paired seating. Well. Almost all of them. She adjusts her bag on her shoulder as she hands out the slip form to Mr Banner, he takes it from her without looking up, concentrating on the papers on his desk. Though when he notices what it is that he has in his hand he looks up at Zenaida before looking down at the seating plan on his desk. Zenaida takes this opportunity to look around the classroom to try and figure out where he is going to place here. There is only one empty seat. Emmett Cullen sits at the back of the class on his own. His large frame causes him to tower over the rest of the students. He's watching her, a sly smirk on his face, as if he already has worked out that she is going to have to sit next to him.
"You can sit with..."
"Emmett?" Zenaida asks, Mr Banner looks up at her and then across at Emmett.
"Mr Cullen...yes" He agrees and then hands over a textbook for the class before he signs the slip, then hands it back to her. Thankfully not forcing her to introduce herself. She wonders if they were warned about her outburst in Trigonometry with Verner and now they aren't going to ask her. Which is fine by her. Emmett's eyes track her as she walks away from Mr Banner's desk and towards his black-topped table. Typical high school science tables. Slightly taller than the usual school desk. Yet it still looks tiny next to Emmett. She's pretty sure even Thor would look ordinary-sized next to Emmett. She takes her seat and sets the textbook on the desk before she shoves the signed slip into her bag and she sets it on the floor next to her seat. Emmett can get a better look at her now she is sitting next to him. The blonde curls, the soft skin, the flawless complexion, even the muscles of her body. She's a lot leaner and muscular than he first thought. There is some strength in her bones. She lets out a breath as she leans on the desk, fingers under her chin as she waits for the class to being. There are still a few stragglers wandering in to class and taking their seats.

"So" Emmett starts as he taps his pen against his notebook. "What do you do for fun?" Zenaida turns her head slightly to look at him, raising an eyebrow at him. These aren't as invasive as the questions his sister asked her, and he isn't trying to ask her about her abilities. He just seems interested in her. She would check his mind, but the second she lets her shield down she knows that Edward, who is sitting a few rows ahead of them with Bella, is going to be straight in her head, snooping around. So she keeps that shield in place and gives him the benefit of the doubt that he is not playing some game, and is just asking her to ask, to actually get to know what she likes rather than her life story. She can give him one thing, she supposes. Something that's not too personal but something that she enjoys doing. Though to be honest, she hasn't done much of what she used to like in a few years now, Asgard doesn't have video games or baseball.
"I like sports" She offers, he nods a little.
"Like playing them or like watching them...?" She shrugs and tilts her head.
"A bit of both" She admits. "Are you happy now?" She teases a little. "Will it appease your family that you finally managed to get something out of me?"
"I wasn't asking for them" He answers, the two of them sharing a look. The fact that she was right about him just wanting to know does make her feel a little better, if he is telling the truth. He's not digging, he's just making conversation.
"What about you?" She counters. "You a sports fan?"
"Hmm..." He nods and smirks. "Baseball mostly..." She hums as she glances over him. She would have said he would be better suited for football. Those shoulders could do some damage in a tackle. "It's kind of a family thing" She turns back to look at Mr Banner, to see if he's going to start yet, but he's writing notes on the board instead. She lets out a breath. "Can I ask something else?" She sighs a little and looks at Emmett again. But he's just smiling back at her, looking like an eager beaver. She nods and lets out a breath. He then holds up two pens of two different colours. "Which one should I use?" She smirks a little and lets out a small laugh before she glances at the pens.

"The green one" She answers and he looks down at the pens, then nods in agreement, setting the second pen back into his bag. She is a little relieved that he hasn't pushed for personal questions. She's already had it from his sister, and then whatever is going on with his brother, she's already a little question worn by his family. She smiles to herself as she turns to her notebook, Emmett smirks softly as he spins the pen around in his fingers.
......
At the end of the day, Zenaida climbs onto her bike, her helmet in her hand as she looks around the parking lot. After Biology, she'd gone on to have Spanish and the Shop, focusing on mechanics, both of which she had shared with Emmett, who she was paired with, again, for both. Just like with Biology, he stayed clear of any invasive questions, they talked about sports or the work they were doing in the class. She's just not sure what to make of it. Of them. It's different. She hums a little, more to herself before she pulls on her helmet. For her first day back, it wasn't as bad as she thought it was going to be. There were whispers. There were pregnancy rumours. There were new friends and old friends. It wasn't the worst first day. Her first day on Asgard was a lot worse than this. She turns the key in her bike and the engine rumbles to life. She is not going to dwell on today. Her first day is done. Tomorrow will be better.

Decompose!
Dear diary. When you read stories about some people missing and returning after years of absence claiming they were living in another world, your first reaction is to scoff and dismiss a story as a tall tale, right? I know I did. All the time. Until it happened to me and I no longer did. That day was today. Some god of thunder smote me. If it were Chris Hemsworth, I wouldn't mind but it was some barbaric Hitite god that abaondned Earth some four millennia ago. Yes, what can I say? I love the seventh art. I have more hours watching movies than any other activity, including sleep. What? Do you think I'm exaggerating? Maybe I am. I'll really miss hollywood the most. And my biggest regret is that I never got to visit the holy city of cinema. I did not come to another world to be a hero even though there was hints that they hoped I'd save it. I did not come with overpowered abilities able to, dunno, leap tall castles in a single bound, faster than a speeding crossbow bolt, be more powerful than a eight-horse carriage, the bounds. No. After the asshole god that murdered me brought me to his world, he gave me some boons from his discount bin and "The Power of my Soul (tm)". Forgive my french, I hope you understand I am rather upset at dying. And he somehow decided that my power is to recycle stuff. How awesome is that? Not much at first, I must admit. At least I got all my camping stuff and equipment with me. There's no lycra in the other world. I'll make it someday, but that day is not today. So here I am. In another world, in the middle of nowhere. I'm no heroine. As the song goes, I'm your basic average girl. And I'm assumed to be here to save the world. But almost everything can stop me, because I'm not named Kim. Wish me luck, diary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This novel is going have the following features: slow-paced slice-of-life No GameLit / LitRPG elements. Movie references. Sandra likes the seventh art. Journal / diary style crafting (includes chemistry, engineering and metallurgy) low magic technological advancement (for Sandra, at least. She is not against sharing though) personal relations clash of perception between the modern and ancient customs. bits of tension, fighting, and plot here and there. I won't repeat myself though. Once she crafts a good batch of soap, for example, she'll just note, "I crafted soap again." Once it is estabilished how she obtains compound X, compound X2 that is obtainable from the same process will also just be mentioned. I'll try to be as realistic as I can with the crafting, chemistry, and technology. Cover: Public Domain Image by StockSnap from Pixabay. No attribution required but we do it anyway.
