《Iridescent (E. Cullen)》Chapter Nine

Gym. Zenaida is dreading this. She was always careful before she left. She was always on at herself to watch her strength, her speed, and the way she moved when playing sports, as much as she loves doing it, but she has been allowed freedom with herself for three years. She's going to have to stuff herself back inside and away. She's standing on the edge of the volleyball court waiting for Coach Clapp to blow the whistle to get the game started but he's too busy talking to the other side. The teams are mixed boys and girls but there is a definite boy/girl split feel even on the teams themselves. There are four teams, all with six players, and the Coach has clearly tried for a 50/50 split between boys and girls but the class itself has more boys than girls so it's difficult. Zenaida's team has five boys and she is the only girl, not that she minds, she could hold the team all on her own if she wanted to. She lets out a breath and glances across at Emmett, Edward, and Alice who are all sitting on a bench against the wall. Not getting involved in the actual physical side of the class, but being forced to sit through it nonetheless. Emmett is watching her as Edward and Alice talk among themselves. If she concentrated hard enough she might be able to hear them over the rest of the noise, but she shut him down for reading her mind, because it's invasive, so she'll let them talk among themselves. But Emmett's not paying them any attention. He's not listening to them at all. His attention is all on Zenaida. He gives her the old once over. But he does it slowly. Purposely. He wants her to know that he's doing it. And anyone else looking at her like that might annoy her but there is something about him doing it that sends tingles down her spine. Both in warning and in excitement. It's intense. That she should feel danger from him and yet, at the same time, she feels attracted to him. She's got a thing for warrior sorts, the stronger the better, and she can easily see that in Emmett. His form and stance scream warrior. Turns out she likes that. Edward turns to Emmett and hits the back of his arm firmly with a look. Emmett rolls his eyes at something said to him but turns to his brother. Zenaida shakes her head and lets out a breath. She's being ridiculous. She doesn't know him. All she's going off is the way he looks. He could be utterly dull for all she knows.

Lunch. A break in the day's timetable. A chance to eat and drink and be reasonably merry with friends. Zenaida flicks her hair out of the back of her jacket as she enters the cafeteria. She'd detoured to the library to get her library card, just in case she needs it during the year. She has magic, so getting her hands on books, isn't going to be a problem. Zenaida heads towards Bella who sits at a central table with her friends. Zenaida was given the rundown on whose who the night before. Though she knows the majority of them, she wasn't aware that Bella was the type to make friends with girls like Jessica and Lauren. Angela smiles warmly, greeting Zenaida whilst all the boys around the table take notice. Mike's eyes take in Zenaida's maturing form. She was just barely blossoming fourteen year old now she's a growing young woman. She knows she's pretty.
"Do you want to join us, Zen?" Angela asks her.
"No, it's okay, I just wanted to check in with Bells, let her know I'm still alive and all that" Bella smiles and nods. "I also kind of forget my lunch money so...no lunch for me today" Zenaida shrugs, she didn't technically forget it, well, she did. She set it aside last night on the edge of her dresser to scoop up on the way out, but walked right past it and couldn't be bothered to go all the way back to get it and she didn't think risking the use of magic to be a good idea.
"I have a spare drink if you want it" Mike holds out the can of Green Tea with Ginseng and Georgia Peach. Oddly enough, that is one of her favourites. Tea in general. She wonders where he heard that. She gives Bella a look, and her sister understands what that gaze is for. She slinks down in her seat. Zenaida turns back to Mike.

"My favourite" She teases and winks at Mike who smiles up at her, one of those lost puppy smiles. She thought he had a thing for Bella at the moment. She waves her fingers at those at the table before she walks away, crossing the cafeteria towards where the Cullen family are sitting. Emmett is the only one that looks up hearing her approaching them, though Alice and Edward are both frowning. Zenaida pulls out the empty chair next to Edward who looks up now as she drops herself into the seat, without a word and opens her can of soda whilst they, and everyone else in the cafeteria, staring at her. Zenaida crosses one leg over the other and takes a drink from the can.
"I like your boots" Alice offers, Rosalie turns a glare at her sister for starting a conversation with her.
"Thank you" Zenaida counters and looks down at her boots. The table is again silent as they process Zenaida just walking over and sitting with them.
"Why are you sitting with us?" Christian asks her. She tilts her head and then leans up a little.
"Well, seen as your brother was in my head, I figured that makes us best friends now" She comments. "It's like he's seen me naked...." She glances at Edward. "Poking around in other people's heads like that is kinda rude...a dick move some might even say"
"I'm...urm...I'm sorry," He tells her. "But you were reading everyone else's mind too" She shrugs.
"I've not long been able to do it... sometimes I slip up.." She shrugs. "I didn't do it on purpose...you on the other hand. You feel like you're a bit more...seasoned. You were poking to poke..." She tilts her head a little.
"Do you know others?" Edward asks her. "Other telepaths?" He elaborates. Zenaida nods.
"One" She answers and then takes a drink from her can, she shrugs and then stands. "Well, this has been fascinating" She comments and glances around them. Rosalie glares back, but Zenaida just smirks and winks at her before walking away.
"Did she just sit here and read our minds?" Christian asks.
"No" Edward answers. "She's shielding her mind, it stops others from getting in, but it stops her from reading out too"
"Can you do that?" Emmett pushes. "Shield your mind?" Edward shakes his head as he and Emmett watch Zenaida leave the cafeteria. Edward is more concerned about her than Emmett. Emmett is just utterly fascinated by her. It's not very often a human has the courage to walk up to them and talk to them. She is also confident and bold and beautiful. Like an angel.

War Beast
The future is savage. Jenny Summer is a news reporter who hates her job. One day, an accident sends her through a time portal, straight into the distant future. A future of warring Beastmen tribes, deadly monsters, and magic from beyond the imagination. When the savage world is full of many threats, how will the average modern-day girl survive? Author's Note: This is a rewrite of my fiction with the original title. Instead of changing my chapters in my other draft, I made a copy with a different beginning and a few new chapters. The beginning will move straight to the fantasy world like most Isekai light novels. As usual, each chapter will go between 500 and 2,000 words. I deleted the other draft since this draft will be my focus. Enjoy and let me know what you think of this new draft. There may also be grammar and spelling errors too. This series is still in development.

The Weaver's Wrath
Millennia have passed since the end of the God Wars. Mankind's heroes of these wars, the powerful Luminescents, have since become the rulers of the lands, relying on their ancestors' deeds to fuel their own ambitions. The Church itself has fractured since the death of their Goddess. Now it has shifted its focus to a new power - the descendents of the men and women who had received her blessing in the past - the Luminescents. However, with the death of the Goddess Selene, their own abilities began to lessen in quality with each successive generation, leaving them grasping desperately at whatever they can; money, lands, power. Sevrath was born in a time far different than that of ages past. Much of the continent was under the rule of the powerful Luminescent rulers. The Gods were dead and gone; the age of man had begun. Only the Desolate Lands lay unconquered and resolute, a relic of the power of Deimos, the God of Death and Destruction. So when he is found near the borders of the Desolate Lands, what does it mean? Is he some spawn of demon, like many of the townsfolk of Carthal believe, or something else altogether? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This will not necessarily be something that is updated often.
