《The Sinful Mortal》Laws

After class, Artix went around in search of Room-D. After a lot of hassle, he arrived outside the room. He looked inside, but didn't see anyone. 'I'm early, it seems', Artix thought.

He pushed the door and went inside. Surprisingly, it wasn't locked. This explained the curious scratches on the walls.

Artix went and found a desk that had his name on it. He sat there and waited for everyone to arrive.

"Hello, are you Artix?"

Suddenly a voice came out. Startled, Artix almost fell off his chair. He looked around but couldn't see anyone. He noticed that the door was still closed.

"Sorry, I forgot to turn off Hide."

A man appeared in front of the blackboard. He had short, black hair and a pair of red eyes. He had pale skin and gave off an eerie atmosphere. He donned a black robe.

"Hello sir, yes I am Artix," Artix stood up and replied hastily.

"No need to be nervous. My name is Jacob D'ambrisio. You may call me Mr. Jacob," said Jacob, then he continued, "Right, since the others haven't arrived yet, tell me how much you know about Death Masters."

"I know that they need to have a firm belief that they can die at anytime and they shouldn't fear death. This with enough understanding allows them to form a channel becoming Death Masters" said Artix.

Jacob nodded. "That is basically it. Here we learn more about theory. The acceptance should be done by yourself. Forcing someone to have your belief doesn't work. Everyone have their own way of understanding. If one day, doubt began to sprout in your belief, it would be fatal. But, that doesn't mean that I can't give you suggestions."

Artix nodded to indicate his understanding. "Sir, are you a Death Master?"

"Yes, I am also a Life Master," said Jacob.

"You can master life?" Questioned Artix.

"It is not as surprising as it seems. Life is the easiest law to master by far," said Jacob.

"No sir, I didn't mean that. I wasn't aware that life could be mastered before this," said Artix.

"You don't know what the major laws are?" Questioned Jacob.

Artix nodded honestly.

"Well, let me explain it to you then," said Jacob, then he gathered his thoughts and continued, "There are 15 laws in total. The four elemental laws. Namely: fire, water, earth and air. These laws are taught in school. The three advanced laws. Namely: information, force and matter. These are taught in college. Then we have the Eternal Law and the seven major laws. The seven laws are death, life, fate, space, time, reality and illusion. From these laws, it is agreed upon that life and time are the easiest and least risky to master. Apart from that, we haven't found the condition to master reality and illusion yet."

"Oh right! I almost forgot," exclaimed Jacob, then he handed Artix a form and said, "here sign this."

"What is this sir?" Said Artix as he took the form and looked at it.

"Just something to ensure that the academy won't be held responsible in case something bad happened to you," said Jacob drily.

Artix read the form and made sure no numbers were on it. 'Good I don't have to pay'. Then he signed it without hesitation. A thought came to him, 'maybe I am paying with my life'. He smiled and handed the form back to Mr. Jacob.

"Why are you smiling?" Asked Jacob curiously.

"Nothing sir I just remembered a joke," said Artix, clearly flustered.

The duo continued to chat until all the students arrived. There were 11 students in the class, including Artix. Ten boys and a girl. Some were cheerful while others had a gloomy atmosphere. All of them were older than Artix. Artix learned from Mr. Jacob that the oldest boy was in his final year. This was their first time in this class.

The class started and Mr. Jacob started explaining about death.

"First we have to define death. What is death? There are many descriptions.

Some say that death is only applied to living beings.

Some say that death is the end of life.

Some say that death cannot be described by words it can only be understood.

This was the case until many law masters gathered and agreed upon a definition for death.

The definition is as follows: Death is the end of an object's fate. This object can be living or non-living.

For living objects, death is the end of their fate. This is well understood so I don't need to explain more I reckon.

For non-living objects, the end of their fate means that the object can't be said to be the same object again.

This sounds weird, but will become clear with an example. When can a piece of wood not be called a piece of wood? When it turns to dust or when it burns to form a charcoal for example. This is considered its death. I know what you want to ask. Yes, for a non-living object, its death can be varied. That is not the case for a living one. Another example is when a piece of metal becomes rusty."

"Sir, why is fate in the definition?" Asked one of the students.

"This is normal. The laws are much more interlinked than you think. But, contrary to what people think, death is closer to fate than life. The previous definition of death was, the end of life. But this definition doesn't apply to non-living objects, so it was discarded."

"Sir, what is the definition of life?" Asked another student.

"Life is defined as the gift given by the law of life that distinguishes the living from the non-living objects.

Alright back to our topic...."

Mr. Jacob continued to talk about death and mentioned many simple theories and applications. How to use mana and how to effectively use the right commands to achieve different effects. He also included some of his personal experiences. This went on for an hour or so until the class came to an end.
