I saw the steam monster hurling his club hand toward Liam and Lily. Liam couldn't do anything because he was worried about the falling Ice monster, and Captain Steyne was too far away to do anything. Vice Captain Wayne and the girl were too busy with the Tree monster. It was up to me. What could I do to stop it though. I gripped the sword hard. My body started to feel a little lighter. I could feel a sort of static energy around me. Everything around me seemed to lose focus except for the steamed monsters club. My basic instincts took over my body. I launched toward the steamed monster in a blink of an eye. I instinctively swung the sword, and I somehow cut the steamed monsters arm clean off. I left a small crater where I took off from. I landed next to Liam and Lily as Liam just fended of the falling ice monster. Liam didn't see what I did at the time, but Lily did. Her eyes screamed out shock as her jaw dropped. I looked down at my sword, and at my surging veins in my body. My body felt so light. I looked back up at the steam monster. It started to scream out in pain. I started to go into that super focus mode again. I could feel the static in the air rise again.
The steam monster swung his other clubbed arm at me. This time it seemed to go even faster. I launched from the ground, and cut off the arm still. While the arm was still in the air, I leapt off the part I cut off where there was no steam. I launched straight at his head, and cut it off with one slice. I came back down as the monster fell behind me. My focus lightened up, and I became aware of my surroundings again. I looked around, and Liam and Lily were okay. Liam noticed what I did now, and he was in just as much shock as Lily now. Captain Steyne looked just as shocked as them. I smirked at this as I though, "That's right Liam. I'm the impressive one now."

Vice Captain Wayne and the girl just finished their battle with the tree monster. They froze its legs and arms, then cut off its head. I looked back down at the sword in bewilderment. What was with this sword? Whenever I swung this it was like I was slicing through air. It felt like me and the sword were one. Now that I look closely at the sword, it looks like it has some letters on it. They spell out Caliburnus. What the hell does that mean? While I was pondering this Captain Steyne and the others walked over to me. Liam was the first person to say something, asking me, "How the hell did you do THAT?!"
I smirked at him because I had to look cool in front of that girl and answered back, "I have no idea, but it was so cool wasn't it. Call me one cut man."
Lily was speechless, while Vice Captain Wayne and the girl seemed disinterested because they didn't see anything. Captain Steyne exclaimed out though, "The youth in this town is so talented haha! Kid you are going to take the hunters exam in the capital a month from now right?"
Oh my god! Was Captain Steyne talking to me!? I responded hurriedly, " Uh yes sir. Liam and I both are!"
He smirked and responded, "Then you guys should travel with us. We are going down there to recruit some more crazies to join us. I'm Captain Steyne, this is Vice Captain Wayne, and that is the life giver Trina. She was a rejected noble due to her lack of her attack magic, but her healing magic is the best of the best. She got sent to us I guess as a throw away piece, but I think she is about your age though."

She gave him an ugly look, with her eyes saying she didn't want him saying that. Captain Steyne just shrugged it off. I took this as my chance and walked over and told her, "Well then we should get to know each other more then. I'm Arthur nice to meet you."
She looked away and started to walk off saying, "I'm still and noble, and you are still a peasant. Know your place."
Captain Steyne sighed and told us, "Sorry, she is like that sometimes. She is pretty nice if you get to know her though. We gotta go clog that hole in the wall up though. You kids did enough for today, so you just take it easy the rest of the day."
Vice Captain Wayne and Captain Steyne left for the hole, while Trina walked back toward the barrack. Leaving just Liam, Lily, and I in silence. I looked at Liam and told him, "She's clearly going to fall for me."
He responded back sarcastically, "Clearly. Lily where is your dad?"
Lily started crying and pointed toward the debris of the bakery. She managed to mumble out, "In... In... There."
By this time the debris started to catch on fire. There wasn't any way he could have survived. Liam looked at me for answers as he was holding Lily. I looked at them and confidently said, "Well, Lily looks like you are going to be coming with us to take the hunters exam. Don't worry we will take care of you."
Liam showed appreciation in his eyes as he comforted Lily. This was the start of our adventures. I wonder where this road will take us. We started to walk slowly toward the barracks to wait for Captain Steyne.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★

Sanguis
In a world inhabited by vampires, various factions are vying for dominance, whether through wars or grueling tournaments. In the midst of the conflict, two unsuspecting humans become caught in the battle. Note: My first story on here, I wanted to try writing a story with battles and leveling up, the kind of story where a character starts at the bottom and world their way up. I hope this story is a good chance to see what works and try out a few different ideas I’ve had.

The End
There are five days left. The End is a miracle 10,000 years in the making that will free all from the confines of the world. The gods will soon be born. There is nothing that can be done about this. Not a webnovel, but a screenplay, submitted as my dissertation for my screenwriting degree. Sort of experimental. I have learned that I dislike writing screenplays, but all the same, I thought I'd post it anyway so it's at least worth something that way.
