I woke up in a hospital bed in the middle of the town. I looked around me, and I saw Liam sitting to my right looking down and slightly shaking from being cold. I was beginning to think that the lake and everything in it was just a dream until I saw the sword in my hand. I was kind of freaked and turned toward Liam and stammered out, "Umm Liam?"
He looked up and happiness flashed his face as he exclaimed, "Arthur! Are you feeling okay? You shouldn't sit up!"
I ignored him and sat up anyway as I stated, "I feel fine. Now you tell me what the hell happened out there."
His look went back to being cold as he explained to me what happened. He stated, "After you went into the lake, I went after you. I looked around everywhere, but I couldn't find you anywhere, even underwater. After about an hour of looking and yelling, I started to hear noises and got afraid, so I started to head back out of the lake. When I got to the edge I saw you lying face up on the edge of the lake with that sword in your hand. I ran toward you, and started yelling for you to get up. Looking back yelling probably wasn't the best idea because right after that the monsters started closing in. The first one was luckily only a smaller, faster one. He had a wolf-like body with a alligator head. I was terrified, and started to use my dark magic to create a barrier to distract him. I picked you up after that, and started running. I ran until my luck ran out. A giant magma monster popped out, and alligator head caught up to us. I took the knife out you gave me when we made our promise, and let out a few dark slashes at alligator head. I had mostly accepted my fate though. Then when the magma monster was about to stomp me, Captain Steyne and the Grey Wolves came in. Captain Steyne used his enhancement magic and immediately took down alligator head, and Vice captain Wayne and a girl that looked about our age used ice magic to take down the magma monster. It was really amazing!"

At this I felt super disheartened, exclaiming "Dammit! You mean my idol Captain Steyne came in and actually fought to save us, and I was ASLEEP!?"
Liam laughed and started again, "Even after all that, that is what you're worried about? You really haven't changed since entering that lake. Anyway, Captain Steyne came up to me, and complimented me for keeping you okay and fighting back with a knife. Then he immediately scolded me for being outside, and not taking the sword in your hand. I tried to explain to him that the sword was like glued to your hand, and in response he tried to grab then the strangest thing happened. When he put his hand on it a blast of energy went out and even knocked him away. He looked at you in bewilderment, and we met up with the larger group of Grey Wolves, and traveled back here."
I sat there with my mouth wide open, "You're telling me Captain Steyne looked at me with bewilderment? AWESOME! Wait are they still in the city?"
Liam thought for a moment and responded, "They should be. They should be filling back up on materials at the barracks. Why?"
I looked at him and smiled, "Because we are going to see them obviously. You can be my in with them."
Before Liam could stop me I was already out of the bed and close to the door. When I got there, there was a big boom and earthquake. What I saw out of the door when I got back on my feet was terrifying.

Is Lucas Destined to Die in the New World?
Lucas imagined himself doing grander things in life; after all, he put in his own blood, sweat, and tears, and got himself a master's degree in English. Maybe he'd be the next best-selling author, or maybe the most popular late night TV show host. However, life didn't give him anything more than a management position at the local burger joint. Day in and day out, he flipped burgers, swept floors, and made weekly schedules that his employees ignored. All he had known for the past five years of his life was pure misery. Then after one night of drunken revelry, he found himself in an unfamiliar world, but he knew all the gimmicks. He knew these stories had quirks he could manipulate- he could put all his stats into magic and become the best wizard in the world, or he could dump all his stats into strength and become a veritable warrior. But once again, just like Earth, this new world seemed to have different plans for him. Instead, he was given a luck stat of 0 and a skill that forced him into danger where there should have been none. Why is this nerdy, magical paradise trying to kill him? Content warnings are there to give me some creative legroom later. There's not an excess of any gruesome content in the story, and what is there is tastefully sprinkled in. This is a LitRPG. Updates are twice a week on Mon/Fri plus some extras here and there.

After all if such awareness was available before the proper Brain matter was grown them how would one gain consciousness? Well there is only one simple and miraculous word to describe it. Magic. Whether it was a highly organized magic system, a chaotic mash of dark arts, or some divine intervention it could be considered to be magic non the less. And magic?
