“Can I be a mage? I wanna try being a cryomancer…”

After elaborately editing the looks of his character, he stopped when he was choosing his job.

“Why not? I’ll tank/phys then, should I be a paladin or a berserker? But why cryo?”

“Because I like the cold.”

“...okaaaay… doesn’t make any sense, at all.”

He fixed his glasses and smiled.

“You like snow as much as I do right?”

I nodded in response to his question.

“Well apparently, if you reach a high enough level, you can influence the weather in-game…!”

“So you can make it snow?”

“Yesss!”

With his small non-existent victory, he wore a huge beaming smile, and finally, we started to play.

“So it’s possible for me to use ice magic…?”

Gael stopped in his tracks, questioning himself while looking at his shaking hands.

“Of course, there is literally no limit when it comes to magic. That’s why it’s so convenient!”

I agreed fully acknowledging his desire for the cold.

“Then--!”

*Whistle*

Hearing the whistle from the front. All the mercenaries in the rear and in front of us assembled and got ready. With how unruly they were earlier, it was a bit unexpected to see a disciplined and serious expression on their faces.

“Mom…”

I cast defensive spells on Lex and delayed healing magic that will activate as soon as he gets hurt.

“?! Delayed healing…!”

Exclaimed the dumbfounded elf, I guess he can read the magic formula well.

Even though we were a bit detached from the main force, we could hear the sounds of battle. Loud metal hitting and scratching each other and the battle cries and screams of pain echoing from deep within the forest.

The healers and other mercenaries that were with us immediately set up, waiting for any injured to come from the front.

“Skoll, Hati, protect Lex. Any sign of danger, you run back to the city with Lex, you understand, right?”

The two wolves howled in agreement with Lex hesitatingly nodding.

“Miss Beatrice, the injured will come soon. Please, get ready.”

The leader of the healers, Mr. Owen called me to assist them.

“What about you, Gael?”

“I’ll go too. I need to erect barriers to protect the healers in case stragglers pass through.”

A group of people suddenly came out of the forest, with them, injured fighters. One had lost an arm, while others had large gashes that spurts blood.

The one who lost an arm was a knight dispatched to fight in the front lines. His face was pale with bags in his eyes and blood continued to pour out from his severed limb.

“Miss Beatrice, are you able to cast high-level spells?”

The leader of the healers that supervised the whole area came up to me. It was quite well known that I’m good with healing magic in Mimok.

“Yes, let me…”

I ran towards the knight and left Lex in the care of the wolves.

“Miss healer, please heal our captain. He was trying to save most of us from a manticore--! Please, ms. healer…”

One of the soldiers who carried the stretcher cried seeing his unconscious captain breathe heavily due to blood loss.

“I’ll do my best.”

I cast healing magic while focusing on his severed limb. As golden light enveloped me and the knight captain’s severed limb, a glowing arm formed with mana slowly grew from the bleeding stump.

After weaving the mana, the blood stopped flowing and a flawless arm grew. However, in comparison to his other arm, it was smaller, thinner, and has fewer muscles.

“His hand…!”

“The captain’s--!”

Gasps and sobs were resounding from the soldiers who brought him.

“He won’t be able to use this the same as before, not until he trains it well. Make sure he doesn’t overdo it or he might end up with broken bones.”

I warned them to properly rehabilitate the newly grown arm. Honestly, this feat was impossible without magic. Even a regular healer can’t grow a limb more so reattaching a severed one.

“I really can’t believe that Miss Beatrice could heal better than healers without being baptised as a healer from the church.”

“I was given a blessing even though I wasn’t baptised. I told you that’s the reason why I was able to live in God’s forest.”

It reminded me of the incident when I first used healing magic. Although Silvio said that healing magic doesn’t directly correlate to faith, humans believed that the source of life magic itself was God’s magic so they believed that healing magic can only be done by healers baptised in the church.

“Yes, maybe I should try my luck in surviving there as well.”

God’s forest was known as the place that God usually appears. It‘s directly in the middle of the largest continent and a place so holy no race could withstand living there.

In truth, it was just so condensed with mana that made it hard for any living race to enter. They say only innocents can enter, hence the reason why children in nearby villages would dare each other to enter.

Hmm… should I teach them how to? Will Silvio mind?

As the battle raged on, more injured were brought to the rear. Those with light injuries were sent back after regaining their stamina while the severely injured ones were brought to me and Mr. Owen to tend to.

“I guess, I need to charge the Marquis more this time, don’t I Mr. Owen?”

Mr. Owen’s mana won’t last at the rate we’re healing these soldiers and mercenaries.

“Indeed, Miss Beatrice. Make sure to keep tabs on your mana potions as well so we can charge him well.”

For a kind-faced gentleman, I can feel some malice with those words.

“How much should I charge him, then?”
