《The Strongest Soul》Chapter 1: Fiend Soul Awakening Trial

Kain stood near the middle of a large crowd of children in the middle of the night. There were hundreds of children standing around. Most of these children had been forcibly taken from their families while a small number had voluntarily gone. Either way all of these children came to the same place in the clearing of a large forest.
They all waited there and as time passed more and more children arrived and were thrown into the crowd of children by powerful figures. After about another hour or so a booming voice resounded in the ears of the children.
“Children of Phlegethon! I am Darkdrop the overseer for the trial on this planet. All of you we saw as having potential in becoming soldiers in our army. Now none of you may know about this since the last time we were at this planet was thousands of years ago but we recruit young children like you to fight for our army. You have the opportunity of becoming powerful beings in war and unrivalled in the world.
This trial is called the Fiend Soul Awakening Trial. This trial will have you awaken your souls and then test you to see how powerful you are. If you can pass the trial then you will be recruited into the army where you will serve for the rest of your lives. However, if you fail, you have the chance of dying. You have no choice of if you want to participate or not as if you are here you have to go through with it.”
Darkdrop looked around at his subordinates and nodded his head. The hundreds of subordinates then began to fly around the children until they formed a circle around them. They all then flashed the same incantation gesture and pointed to a single point in the air in the center of the crowd of children.

A blast of countless different colors of light flashed at that single point and it began to grow in size. After a bit of time it grew to a large enough size to cover over the whole crowd of children. From their perspective it looked as if a large circle of different flashing lights was hanging over their heads.
The circle of lights then flashed brightly, temporarily blinding the children and causing them to pass out. The circle of light then began to descend unto the hundreds of children causing an aura of different lights to cover them. That aura of light stayed over them while they were unconscious.
Kain saw the flash of light and then passed out as well along with the other children. He soon found himself in a dark place that was cold and lonely. Within that dark place there was only a single light. However, it was hard to see because it was a black light. The only reason Kain saw it was because that light sort of twinkled in his heart. It was as if he couldn’t really see the black light but actually feel it.
It soothed and warmed his heart in this otherwise desolate and cold place. Kain felt as if he could connect with that light. Kain tried to reach out with his hand but found that it was transparent. He then stood up and looked back to see his body sitting there still.
He was amazed to see this and stood there dumbfounded. Then he realized that he was looking at his own body and suddenly he looked at the body he was in now. However, he found that it looked exactly like his own body but just transparent.
After a bit more time he stopped observing his body and walked toward the black light. As he got closer he found himself becoming less and less transparent. All of a sudden the black light trembled and then shot forward towards Kain’s body where it flew into his semi-transparent body.

Kain’s transparent body started to turn black as if rotting at a fast speed. A voice then rang in his head. “Return to your physical body as fast as possible or you’ll die.” Then it went silent. Kain found himself shocked and immediately tried to rush to his body only to find himself no longer able to move.
“Ah! Noo!” He screamed.

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.

Super Sekken (An Action Shonen Story)
This is the author’s first story ever written. It may not be great, but do check it out, and I hope you enjoy! I’m currently working on its sequel. Hope. Courage. Self-value. Friends. These all were traits that former junior high soccer champion and first year Miyuki Sekken had none of until she first walked into the doors of her local High School. Despite being a sports athlete phenomenon in her school district, Miyuki dreaded its attention, and even quit her career in pursuit of living a simplistic daily routine. This daily routine would be inevitably interrupted when she chooses to 'branch out' by talking to people. Whether it be a chance of bad luck, fate, or karma, Sekken ends up speaking to someone who was unknowingly suffering from a curse: a curse that causes anyone who tries to get close to them to disappear. Miyuki Sekken would be the next victim, finding herself face-to-face against a once-thought mythical mafia. This gang is not just any gang either, but one who is run solely by the school students of Maguro High, who hold secrets to powers unheard of by the world. How will this first year survive? Will she conquer her anxiety and thwart the gang's vicious rule? Or will she end up losing more than she could have imagined? P.S. I am not a good drawer, so I use Picrews and photo editors to get the general idea for my characters' designs. Rights to the Picrews used go to their respective authors.
