《The Strongest Soul》Chapter 2: End of the Trial

Kain’s heart clenched severely as fear swelled up within him. He couldn’t exactly comprehend how bad death was but he knew that it would be terrible for him. He was only 7 years old at the moment. As soon as the voice finished speaking, Kain, almost instinctively, started to rush toward his body. But he found that he couldn’t move anywhere.
His fear rose to new heights, to a point that he had never felt so much fear before in his life. If this was his true body he would have long since pissed his ragged torn pants. Kain screamed aloud trying to force himself to move but nothing worked for him.
He couldn’t even move his own eyelids let alone his whole body. Kain didn’t know how much time he had but he figured once his whole body turned black he would die. His body turning black wasn’t the least bit painful for him, it felt like a warm feeling for him.
But Kain wasn’t thinking about that warm feeling as he tried everything he could to move toward his own body. “Come on come on please! I have to live to get back to my family! Please just move body!” Kain started to cry as he realized that he couldn’t move at all.
Tears swelled up and ran down on the sides of his face as he cried out for his body to move. But he didn’t give up, he constantly tried to move his body for the slim chance that it might go forward. ‘I won’t give up! These people took me from my home just to make me fight. I’ll pay them back for this! I swear, just let me get out of here and live!” Kain continued to cry out as he pushed himself to the limit attempting to force himself to move forward even a tiny bit.

All of a sudden Kain felt his body go cold as if it were freezing. His body shivered and it turned completely black. His mind started to go blank and his eyes went dim. But even as it did that he pushed himself forward. “Noo! No! I won’t give up please just move!” He cried out furiously. Then his world went completely black. Only then did his body slowly fall to the ground… dead.
Outside the spectators and Darkdrop watched as the light surrounding some of the children dimmed and then went out. As that happened they shook their heads. Darkdrop watched as Kain’s light went out and then said, “How many is that?”
“That makes seventy-three dead.” A voice filled with respect replied.
Darkdrop simply nodded his head. Then his head suddenly turned in the direction of a child who’s purple light went bright and converged within his body. Then that child opened their eyes and looked around wearily and tired. Darkdrop laughed out and then pointed at that child. “That makes the first child! Bring him here and start the recruiting process immediately.” Darkdrop was obviously happy at the moment. “And get him in the training to be a general. The first children to wake are usually the most talented and have the most drive to survive. They are perfect for the general position.”
Almost as soon as Darkdrop’s words fell someone flew over to the child and brought him over. The child was confused but soon fell back to sleep unconscious. This trial had a lot of mental strain on children and it was very normal for them to become unconscious again.
The trial continued on with more deaths piling up. Darkdrop’s assistant continued to call out the number when asked for. His number kept on increasing and increasing.

“One hundred twenty-two.”
“Two hundred eighty-one.”
“Three hundred forty-nine.”
However, there was also those who woke up and made Darkdrop’s face go wild with joy. For each child that awoke he would be awarded. The longer the trial went the more likely a child would wake up as well. That was why the children that died would slowly decrease towards the end.
“Eight hundred thirty-four deaths.” Darkdrop’s assistant called out respectfully. That was final number of deaths. This was all the children that had died in this trial, all of the children that would never again be able to see their parents.
Darkdrop simply nodded his head. His face showed no care for the dead only disdain. However when he thought about the children that had lived his face showed anticipation. “Let’s go.” He didn’t even want to waste time picking up the bodies of the dead children. He simply let them rot there until their bodies disappeared.
With that, all of the three hundred eleven children that survived were led to another planet far off in the distance to start their new lives as soldiers. The place was quickly cleared and soon only the bodies of the dead children remained.
