《Monster? So be it,》Chapter 2

Eagerly following the scent trail; I soon found myself in a clearing where deers and elks... or atleast, this world's equivalent of them were grazing about. I looked at my skin, Green?
I have heard that tigers, due to their orange coloration are invisible to deers who cannot perceive said color. So, going by the same reason as to why that is; that means that at best, my grey-green pallet should be have evolved to also be undetected by creatures like these. Right?
Apparently not, I was wrong about everything, and I mean- Everything.
Assuming that a world created and known by gods worked in the same principle as mine is plain fucking stupid. I thought as I warily looked at the now retreating animals. Why is that, you may ask? Well-
- First, when I snuck in, one of the more larger elks; whom I assumed was the alpha of their herd, had immediately spotted me. Making all the years I had spent running and hiding away from authorities be all for naught. Then, to make matters worse- the Elk simply made it's antlers glow, before releasing some sort of visible radio wave that encompassed and scanned(I assumed) the entire area.
Which let them spot me, all of them. Afterwards, instead of running away like most herd animals do, the damn things chased me with their curved horns raised, ready to impale me the moment I was caught.
Though, I did escape learning new things- one, is that when I felt like I was about to die as I ran, I noticed a presence at the back of my head, seemingly looking over every single action I took. So, I guess I'm being monitored by Mr God of Death back in his realm. Reasons as to why? Most likely because he wants to watch me kill my "competition": the other heroes that had been summoned here by their respective gods.
Second, is that, apparently, I hate- no, I loathed living sentient beings- I felt my stress levels rise to an all time high the moment those deer gave chase, to the point that I was about to turn around and rip out their throats with my claws right then and there.
I took deep breaths as I perched up a branch, all the while glaring as I observed the herd; all of their heads were armed with curved horns, with some glowing with green light. Oh, and they're pretty much very agressive, no doubt about that.
In most cases, a herbivore possessing one of those traits is already a bad thing, but both of them combined? Then, yeah, something dangerous is definitely out there.

"The forest is dangerous enough for aggressive weaponized leaf eaters to have an advanced and organic terrain scanning devices. The hell was the reason they needed to evolve all that for?"
Or maybe I'm over-thinking things and these animals are just designed that way, given that there are gods and all that. Well, would've been plausible, but my thoughts were confirmed when-
-"Kill it then..." something at the back of my mind whispered, "spread it's intestines and it's hollowed out head on the trees." It once again encouraged.
With my suspicions that such an animal did in fact, exist, I gave the God a reply- "Yeah, I'm trying here? But clearly I need to fucking prepare before I try to kill whatever it is don't I? I'll probably get a gun first or something."
He stayed silent and I moved to twist a long and thick branch off the tree. The deers continued to eat as I sharpened the stick with my claws, slowly chipping off the bark before proceeding to do the same to the exposed flesh.
When I was done with one, I moved to grab another branch to sharpen, this time; one that was longer, and thicker.
The herd still continued to graze as I stabbed the wooden spear into the ground and stretched. I released a breath before picking up my Javelin. And with a proper head start; I gave my throw proper momentum-
-I flexed my muscles as I ran: slowly gaining speed in preparation for my throw, I felt the air brush my face as I got out of the forest and into the clearing.
Then, once I was fast enough- I lowered my posture, lengthened my arm, and relaxed my fingers; the Javelin escaped my grasp and spun in the air, swiftly making it's way to the throat of the nearest deer.
I felt the blood rush inside my body as I see my weapon make it's way to my intended target. I kept running and adrenaline coursed through me, impatiently waiting for something.
Then...
Blood spilled, and the dam kept everything at back of my mind broke; forcing me to make a mad dash straight for the herd, uncaring about the potential danger.
Viscous saliva dripped from my mouth as the blades of grass scratched my hide, it itched, but it only made me want more.
The herd broke loose as I got closer and closer, all of the bravado and teamwork they had shown earlier had gone down the drain and they moved in dissarray. Clearly distressed about the sudden death of their friend, a manic grin spread on my face as I passed by my now life-less prey and grabbed the Javelin that I had thrown, my heart and the world slowed down once I felt my grip on the make shift handle I had made at the weapon's tail.

And, almost as if I had been suddenly awakened from sleepless nights, an "Aach!" Beside me woke me up from my calm stupor, and controlled and refined rage well up inside me.
I felt the feeling of my chest tighten as a newly formed, intentional grudge washed over my being. Just like I had always fought, I was pissed. But I was in control of my madness as I strengthened the grip on my Javelin and attacked the deer- the uncomfortable feeling of adrenaline long gone; replaced by lightheadedness, the usual result from my chaotic emotional state that I had long since controlled.
I pulled back my arm as I sidestepped the elk's charge, my muscles tensed I balanced my weight for the thrust. Then, with a swift motion- I stabbed the animal's neck with my spear.
Blood was once again spilled, I felt it's warmth as it made it's way unto my hide, my grin grew wider and my heart rate accelerated as I observed the panicking herd.
I prepared to once again attack and kill another deer before all of them suddenly calmed down, the powerful presence I felt from the Herd's alpha - which now had glowing had glowing eyes - being the main cause for the sudden standstill.
"Right... gods exists on this world." I muttered.
We always have Mr Faux, we simply couldn't interfere with yours. The second voice inside his head said.
"Oh great, another one. A girl this time eh? Hey, I'm pretty sure the guy at the back gets pretty lonely, you should talk to him sometime."
I will indeed do so Mr Faux, since we are polar opposites. But before and even after that, I would appreciate it if the God of Death's avatar wouldn't run rampant inside my forest and kill my children. Now, if you will, please leave this herd alone. And if you are perhaps eager to kill, there are monsters within my home that I would be more than glad for you to slay.
I'll give out rewards with every beast slain of course.
"Fine then, and if I want to ask- what would these rewards be?"
The voice stayed silent, then once again spoke- the rewards will vary depending on which beast you have killed, it ranges from killing small animals in my domain, to obtaining beautiful gemstones from the very earth.
"Gemstones?" I asked, but the voice was gone, and the herd was vigilant, but otherwise calm.
I walked out of the clearing covered in blood and carrying the two carcasses I had killed.
"Monsters, Monsters, Monsters. Where can I find them I wonder? If one looks for a man-killing beast, where would they find him? Why, in a cave of course!" I said to nobody in particular.
I continued to hum as a sharpened rock that I had cleaned tore through the soft flesh of the deer, "flaying animals will always be one of the better things I had done in the wild." I happily hummed as I continued my work, a smile grew on my face as the red flesh of the deer had started to show.
With a satisfied nod, I hung the skinless deer on a makeshift hangar made of twigs and looked around my camp. In a little less than four hours- I had a fire going with few clay pots hardening underneath the soft soil a campfire was burning on. And, in a few more hours, I would have a perfect place to store both Water and Food.
I smiled as I reminisced about the first time I had seen a place like this, I was still young back then, a kid without shelter. The winter was cold and from there, I met a homeless lumberjack, the man had taught me how to survive out there in the woods, cared about me, and even went out of his way to teach me everything he knew.
I left his little abode a few weeks later, but, what I had learned from him- stayed with me. Everything came in handy when I was a recognizable criminal that people always looked out for in cities, and, I might say, the man had truly left an impact on me.
Even when he knew who I was, he simply gave me a warm smile when I returned to him 3 years later; and just like how he had helped me, I helped him.
"Wonder what he did what that 4 million?" I mused as I sat down.
I continued to think about my mentor as weaved leaves to make Baskets and Traps and tied Vines to create rope.
Storm was brewing on the horizon, making tommorrow, quite the exciting day.
