《Twisted King》5: Boss Battle

My condition was amazing and my new skill seemed to be rather useful too, my body was itching to fight.

I hadn't bothered taking Barba's spear because I frankly didn't need it, I knew the idea that just my touch could kill them would probably terrify any orcs that found out too.

Healing had improved as a skill too, even a new version unlocking.

Regeneration was a cheaper, ranged healing option which could effect up to (INT/10) people.

It seemed useful but regenerating people was a slower process than direct healing, however it could provide an option against faster and stronger opponents.

Normally, regeneration would form tendrils of energy that attach to a person and feed them weaker healing magic that heals them more slowly over time.

As anti regeneration or rather "degeneration" it would cause them to start falling apart, I could also reverse the tenticles from moving towards people and instead making the people be dragged towards the tentacles.

Role reversal seemed like an absurd extra option in combat, clearly something game breaking that was now a part of me.

I knew that with it I could essentially ignore any status effect inflicted on me, potentially mess with physical damage and definitely redirect magic attacks back towards people once I levelled up enough.

My mind was racing with the possibilities of what the power could do at it's full potential.

As I stopped focusing on my progress I moved towards the slowly diminishing orc encampment deeper into the mine.

Room after room became filled with orcs as I busted my way through, landing only a single hit against each enemy.

I didn't particularly feel the need to use Degeneration against any of the orcs, I hadn't felt threatened enough to.

Knowing there was a chance to rack up more XP, I grinded my way up through to lvl 12 by moving through the mines tunnels.

There was eventually a wall in my progress, literally.

The thing looked like a green brick wall, inside a larger chamber with a huge bonfire there sat an orc with ornate green armour.

He had an aide by his side with glowing green eyes and plenty of lesser orc soldiers guarding him, I quickly glanced at my status to confirm my condition before moving forward.

"Human, you're strong. You made it through all my strong men.

If I kill you, I absorb your strength. Become even stronger. I will kill you."

Barba was fast, but the orc before me was absurdly fast.

In an instant he reached me and struck my stomach, sending me flying into a wall with a crash.

I immediately had to heal myself, I knew that I wouldn't be able to beat the thing the normal way so I used degeneration for the first time.

The strong orc began to scream in pain as it crumbled apart, it's body unable to handle the damage it was quickly sustaining as the green eyed orc stood up and raised it's arm.

Directly in front of me, the same green eyed orc appeared and grabbed me.

"Magician?"

I tried to use degeneration but it squeezed my throat a little to stop me, it's leader standing back up after recovering slightly from the damage.

The orc knew about degeneration, but it didn't know about the much faster anti heal.

All it took was a single finger touching the orcs back, and it lost it's stomach and several organs.

Soon the leader orc charged at and grabbed me, but I managed to touch him once before being tackled into a wall.

The two had received seemingly minor but deep and heavy internal damage, so I waited for them to give up as they slowly stumbled towards me before slumping over.

The other orcs charging towards me were still a threat, forcing me to use degeneration to damage them before they could reach me.

I could barely stand even after healing myself, I was extremely tired.

Eventually I motivated myself to stand up and checked the system message after the remaining orcs died from degeneration's effect.

The orcs I killed had to have been important, I knew that at least. They were monstrous even compared to Barba.

I had no chance of beating any of them without Anti heal which had earned itself a name upgrade by that point.

"Nega heal... deheal? Unheal?"

I tried thinking of antonyms of Heal but harm or hurt didn't sound as cool as I would have liked them to.

Deteriorate seemed to be the fit for the moment, though I didn't really feel attached to the name.

My status window showed noticeable improvements compared to the day before, my exhaustion aside.

I called the miners down and tried to get them to point out where any left over orcs would be, but as they pointed out I had most likely killed all of the orcs in the mine by that point.

They suggested sleeping in the orcs quarters which I didn't object to, I grabbed the ornate orc armour as well as the wizards robes and brought them with me into one of the rooms.

I looted the mine rather thoroughly before heading to bed, I didn't feel the need to be a miser so a single piece of hidden gold or two didn't really demand my full focus

The bed stank of orc but I didn't really mind, my body was too exhausted to care.

By morning most of the former slaves were ready to guide me out of the mine, I did one last sweep for valuables before packing everything I had into bags and strapping them to my person.

The gems mined by the slaves were all given to me along with absurd amounts of gold which I spread out amongst the former slaves, they told me that it would still be at lesst a days walk to the closest village and that the chances of us all surviving were slim

I found that my physical ability had drastically improved such that carrying everything didn't particularly bother me, I knew the orcs had amazing strength but the ridiculous degree to which my own body had been refined by the level up process amazed me.

We all eventually set off, leaving the mine and stepping into fresh air for the first time.

The main challenge for getting to the nearest village was escaping the valley that we were in, I was told that climbing it would be doable for me alone but impossible for the rest so I elected not to leave on my own.

There was little action on the road up the cliff, the single path that was available didn't attract the attention of many monsters so it was a brief chance to relax for many of them.

The occasional extremely weak low level monster would pop up but I soon figured out that level 1 and 2 monsters provided so little xp that it would take killing thousands of them to effect my level in any meaningful way.

The slaves eventually notified me that we had reached the most dangerous part of the journey and that they would act as bait if required.

I ignored their reckless request and moved towards the nest of what I was told were trolls.

I was greeted with the visage of one, a furry, extremely tall beast with a monkey like face.

The creature tried to grab me, which allowed me to touch it's extended arms and deteriorate it.

The slaves were astonished, and normally I would be too but my enhanced physical abilities made it easier to at least land a single touch against the creature.

But what I didn't expect was that deterioration wouldn't fully destroy the Troll, and in fact it almost immediately began to recover from the damage that it did take.

I tried to get out of the way but it's quick swipe took my arm clean off.

I had no way of fighting back, I tried punching with the arm I had left but my attacks weren't nearly strong enough to damage the troll proper.

It threw me against the face of the cliff, giving me a chance to recover my arm as I used degeneration against it.

White tendrils assaulted the creature and began to damage it, but Degeneration couldn't beat out the speed at which the creature recovered from damage.

The regeneration the troll had was a problem.

But it wasn't asif my current ability with role reversal could let me mess with the trolls healing, I needed to get it to a state where it was physically exhausted and weak to even attempt it.

I needed to hurt the troll to undo it's healing but lacked the ability to hurt it because of its healing.

It was a catch 22.

I decided to try being smart, I told the slaves to light a fire whilst I distracted the troll.

Even though it was physically superior, I could heal myself in an instant. I was a great punching bag for it.

It took the miners several minutes to start a fire before I grabbed a piece of flaming wood and stabbed the troll with it.

The wood didn't sink very deep into the trolls body, but the fire began to spread across it's fur.

In combination with the flames I used degeneration to hurt the Troll to tan extent that it's healing couldn't properly keep up.

It slowly but surely began to get weaker and more exhausted, it couldn't keep up with the accumulating damage.

I used the opportunity to get close and grab the troll, I used the few seconds of opportunity I had to use role reversal before the troll threw me into the side of the cliff.

But it was too late for the troll, the fight was already over.

The fire continued and the troll noticed that it's healing ability wasn't working.

In fact, the trolls amazing healing was slowly causing it to kill itself.

I wasn't causing it's healing to start damaging it, the only thing I reversed was the goal of the healing.

It wasn't trying to return to a previous state, it was growing like it's whole body was a tumour.

The troll's organs were probably pierced by it's ribs as it died and stopped growing, having swollen into a non humanoid blob of meat and fur.

After such an intense fight, I had not even leveled up. I needed a few hundred more XP but I hoped that no other monsters of that caliber showed up.

It wasn't much stronger physically than Barba, and it was slower due to it's weight

The regeneration was the problem, I knew that It would make fights difficult going forward.

Fortunately having an intact corpse meant having a potential puppet.

I used conscription on the troll and brought it's shadowy soul form out, it wasn't much different from it's normal self but it still looked much weaker and dumber than before.

"Release shade, Troll."

I knew that it might be more useful to have them than to not, but weak and dumb minions weren't exactly useful at all to begin with.

I at least felt a vast improvement from last time, I was confident that practising would allow me to create a practical assistant.

I used conscription and release on all of the low level enemies until I felt a definite improvement within the power itself.

The rest of the journey went well, but I wound up wasting a lot of MP training conscription and had to use my brute force to kill the rest of the low level enemies without being able to conscript them.

We eventually reached the top of the cliff without much issue, and I got to see a more reasonable landscape for the first time.

A vast expanse of green in varying shades, a large city far off in the mountains and plenty of small farm like areas covering the journey.

It all looked beautiful.
