《I died so the main protagonist can have character development, but I got reincarnated to another world - Light Novel》Chapter 4 Decision Making

We are back at the place where we met each other. I took some time alone while sipping my cup of coffee that Holway cast moments ago when I was healing my wound. Truthful, it was a poor coffee, but I forced myself so that I won’t get burnout from all the thinking. Plus, I didn't want to hurt Holway’s feelings.
I recalled the events of the fight and what abilities did most of the work. The large mana quantity and superhuman intelligence did most of it. So, these two might get picked.
Choosing superhuman intelligence might be the best strategic move. The thing is, I’m already kind of smart. That’s what my master told me. When I was still alive, and the fact, I scored 80 to 85 points in both written and practical tests. So, I might drop superhuman intelligence from my list, but who knows, maybe I would pick it up for the sake of adding knowledge.
“So have you decided to pick your ability?” Holway asked me in his original form.
“Almost…,” I told him.
He dimmed his light before speaking up again, “You need to pick as in right now. We’re wasting valuable time here.”
“Alright, Alright. Just give me a second.”
“Make it fast,” He shouted.
Jerk. Holway flew away, leaving me with my thought.
“Phew,” I exasperate.
Holway turned around and looked at me with his light brighten.
Shit! Did I mess up?
He said, “What was that?”
“Nothing!” I responded in hassle. Well, that could be worst.
Thank goodness, I modified the mind-reading ability before the fight even started. If Holway read my mind about what I was thinking about him. He might punish me, or he might reincarnate me into a tree.
This was all thanks to the Ability Modifier, which let me modified the mind-reading ability. Without this ability, I might not be able to continue healing my mind from the mental pain.
To heal my mind from it, I needed to use the Healing ability and LMQ. Surprisingly, All four abilities came in handy, but there were setbacks when using the modified version.
“Oh yeah. I forget to ask. How did you overcome the mental pain when you use the modified version of the Mind-Reading Ability?” Holway asked me as he stopped mid-air.
What he meant was the dizziness, insomnia, and blacken out. I was hesitant to tell him, but he did give me some tips when we were fighting.
“What I did was changed the healing ability from active to passive and supply it with a modified version of LMQ,” I explained.
“LMQ? What is that?” His light sparks. He was curious.
I continued, “LMQ stands for Large Mana Quantity. I shorten it because of how long the name was. You should change the name too.”
“I’ll think about it,” He responded.
Just do it, you big lump of light.

He asked me another question, “Didn’t the Ability Modifier makes the modified versions of the abilities weaker?”
“It did, and it became much worse than before. The modified version of Mind Reading ability made the dizziness even worse. That’s why I used the Healing ability. But during the process, the healing made my body younger because of the side effect of LMQ. To counter it, I have to change the LMQ by supplying me with a less amount of mana, and because of that, it slows the charge up of a spell or an ability," I explained.
Although, the Ability Modifier changed an aspect of those three abilities. It also made it even worst. Such as, it made the decision-making even harder, the healing of the wounds slower, and the selection of spells became limited.
The modified version of Mind-Reading ability caused me to have dizziness. That would affect the decision-making. It became even worst. When blocking Holway from reading my mind.
The modified version of the Healing Ability accelerated my body to become even younger than before. If that continued, I might cease to exist because of the large supply of mana.
It forced me to decide, modifying the LMQ by supplying me with a bit of mana. Thus, forcing me to use spells that required less mana. It also made the spell weaker.
“Oh, so that’s why you used such weak spells,” He ribbed, “Oh well, at least now you know some limitation when using the ability modifier again.”
Oh man, this lump is annoying. Could he leave me alone? I’m in the middle of picking an ability here.
“You know, you should stop using that ability now as we’re not fighting anymore,” He coaxed.
“Nope, not going to happen. You will read my mind even without asking.”
“Oh, come on!”
“Still.A.No.”
“Fine then,” he conceded.
How the hell did he become my second chance giver? Why couldn't it be a beautiful goddess? I sighed.
“Why you sighed for no reason.”
“Nothing for your concern,” I responded.
“Hmm…,” He paused before continuing, “If you’re wondering, why can’t a beautiful goddess be your second chance giver. It's because you’re a guy that is from a world of magic and swords and guns. Not from a world of ‘cultural’.'”
How the fuck did he know I think about that?
“How the fuck did you know I think of that?” I asked.
“I can tell from your face. Plus, most of my reincarnatees also had that kind of face. And with years of experience. I’d know what they were thinking without reading their mind or memories,” he added, “The goddess is more attracted to men from another world than yours. Like teenagers and adults, even most of my kind attracted to them for some odd reason. There are only a few of us left that reincarnate people from the world of magic, swords, guns, and yadayadayada.”

Damn. Those who get reincarnated from the world of ‘cultural’ really are lucky.
“What kind of luck did I had just to be born in my old world,” I sighed.
“Huhu, I can’t help you with that. That is all on you.”
“Thanks for the encouragement, you big lum-,” I paused.
“Hmm? What you called me?” he glared at me.
“Luminous… you’re luminous because you’re giving off lights. Hehe,” I stuttered.
“Hmm….” He stared. My hand is getting sweety from the suspends.
“Oh well. You may continue.”
“Phew.”
“But!”
But?
“But?” I said.
“A bit of advice on the decision making. Alone they are weak, but together they are strong. Anyways tootles,” he flew away.
What did he mean by that?
After some time, like forever, I finally decided.
“Hey, Holway!” I called.
“Yes, I’m Holway,” he parodied.
I let out a small breath before I continued, “I have decided. Can you give me a pen and paper? This might be a long list.”
“Oh… okay,” he went on casting a pen and paper. Then handed it over to me. I received it and started to scribble down the abilities on the piece of paper.
“Here,” I handed him the piece of paper and the pen.
He grabbed it along with the pen. He looked at it for a while before looking at me with a concerned and surprised face.
“Are you sure about this?”
“Yes, I’m pretty sure. Plus, I can handle myself out there.”
“Okay then, your choice,” he extracted the 3 abilities that were not on the paper.
My body became weak. The 3 abilities came out from me and headed towards Holway. Then, he stored it inside the book once more.
Those picks were the results of what I had experienced during my past life. What could the abilities help me during those times, how could I use them, how could I use them during the fights against Holway, and the consequences of those picks affecting past, present, and future. Hopefully, those picks would help me and others around me.
Holway continued where he left off, and a large circle hovered over us. Just like what I felt previously, the massive amount of mana being produces was immeasurable. The wind was forcing my body, but I managed to withstand it.
A bright stream of light flowed from the circle and formed a square in front of me. The squared began to fill with lights. The lights were bright, and I had to close my eyes.
Moments later, the lights stop. I looked in front of me and was surprised to see some kind of mirror.
When looking at the mirror, I saw a world in full detail. I turned myself to Holway and asked, “Is this the new world?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Wow!” I gasped
“You may proceed to enter the portal,” he told me.
I was surprised, “Portal?”
“Uh-huh, Portal, it’s a bridge to the other world,” he explained.
“Oh…. Okay…. Er… nice chat… see you when I died,” I told him.
“If you died and fail, I’ll wipe out your memory,” he advised.
“Wow, harsh words from my second chance giver.”
“Just get through the portal and stop wasting time!”
“Fine…,” I walked towards the portal and stopped mid-way.
“What now?” He glared at me.
I turned around and faced him, “Thanks for the second chance.”
“Hmm… I’m not feeling it, sorry,”
Wow, this lump is the worst.
“Oh, I forget to tell you that when I extracted the three ability, the ability inside you reset, and I can now read your mind.”
“You what?”
Oh, fucking hell this-. You know what, I won't say a single word about him,
“Oh, he matured a bit, how wonderful.”
I was wrong. This guy is annoying as hell.
“You know what. Forget what I said. I’m going in,” I turned around and walked towards the portal.
“Hey… take care there, Hero.”
I stopped my steps when I heard those words. Hero, huh. I’m going to be a hero in this world. Never thought it would happen to me.
I responded without facing him, “Thanks.”
“Also,” he continued.
What now?
“You’ll start as a baby," he said.
I turned around and looked at him, “A baby? Why?”
“Well, you died, remember? And you don’t have a body. It will be a different case if you were a summoned one, but you will get a random ability that you might not like,” he told me.
“Can’t I just… you know… possessed, someone?”
He frowned before continuing, “Oh boy, then that person soul and your soul will fight for dominance over the body.”
“I don’t mind. I’m pretty sure I’ll win.”
“No,” he refuted.
“Then we will get ourselves or, you in trouble. They will try to exorcist your soul from that person’s body. And one of the great deities of my kind, is a powerful exorcist that can literally pull your soul from that person. If he’s called, and he'll return you to me, and I have to explain to them on why I reincarnate you on another person who has a soul. Which is kind of a drag for me,” he frowned.
So, that deity could pull my soul out from that person’s body if he is gets called. Oh, okay, that makes sense. Guess possessing someone is out of the question.
“Fine then,” I conceded.
I continued moving forward until I saw something that caught my eyes on the space.
“Huh, what is that thing?”

Four story anthology
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] [participant in #NaNoWriMo] Preface: This fiction will contain four different stories set up as a challenge for myself and to get better at writing. The challenge for royal road writathon is a 55.555 word goal while the nanowrimo challenge is 50.000 words. Reader suggestions is turned on, feel free to point out errors I missed and I'll fix them up! Chasing sun, napping softly: Cultivation/Xianxia genre. Some parts will poke at the ridiculousness of the Xianxia gerne. We follow the life of a magical fox monster, who doesn't like how the cultivation world works. Said beast seems to have more knowledge than is usual for normal magical beasts. In it's infinite wisdom it decided to search for the main character of the cultivation world to have a cozy and safe place beside him. Our fox will act as a "wise beast" to coast along on the main characters rise to greatness, all for peace, happiness and that amazing napping spot in the sun. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing in first person. Comedic effect between talking vaguely and sounding wise. The cost of heroism: A story more centered around fights and mental health of hired mercenaries/heroes. The world is infected with an eldritch corruption. Humans are trying their best to explore and clear out wilderness and the dungeons hiding in them to establish new cities. Lords seek for hired hands to do the professional work. Thanks to the setting, the story will show how awful pasts are the norm and how pragmatic people became thanks to that. People exchange their sanity for riches, fame and gods acceptance. Interpersonal relationships change drastically and quickly. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing grim scenes/imparting a feeling of how grim the world is. Writing fight scenes. Showing different mental states. Describing their influence on people during fights, walks or even after successful or failed campaigns. Who will be the next powerhouse? : A story about a gaming show, it's host Staan and the different participants. Stereotype characters, stereotype backstories, silly challenges and quizzes. The winner of those challenges gets powerups for their power system. Be it magic, ki, psychic power or anything else imaginable and unimaginable to reach the power of gods. The challenges for myself with this story: A softer tone for storytelling. Making the reader smile and enjoy themselves. A different try at slice of life story. I was left behind on earth as my family conquered another world and enjoys riches, but that's okey because I got a cheat too! : Stereotypical Isekai story parody twisted into an Urban Fantasy story. The challenges for myself with this story: Writing over the top and overdramatic scenarios/scenes Writing in first person. Walking into stereotypical scenarios and making them more dramatic/giving them a twist. Different type of humor.
