Chapter Two – So this is a City

As the car came closer i paid a lot attention to is becuase it was something i had never seen before, It wasn't much higher than me when i stood on my hind legs but it still fit more than one person in it. This car thing was quite mysterious. It also made a low grumbling sound when it moved like it was not happy but i couldn't understand its words so i asked Sherman who told me it was just the engine moving... The engine appeared to be some form of machine that Mr.Sherman told me about before. Also when the car driver saw me he asked Mr.Shermond who i was so i said with telepathy 'i am White Shadow former alpha of the Shadow wolves' proudly while showing my fangs a bit and shocked the man, when i did that Mr. Sherman told me to not reveal my fangs to people nor tell them i was raised by wolves as that would scare them away. I was confused 'why can't i tell them about mother and my brothers? … wahy would humans be scared of my fangs?' when i asked Mr. Sherman he said it was because normaly humans don't have fangs and he showed me his teeth which were flat and only a few had small points unlike mine which were all razor sharp like the other wolves. They ( mr shermont and driver ) were quite surprised about my fangs haha.

On the long way to Mr. Shermonts house he told me more about the city and that he lived a little bit away from the city because he didn't really like the city because it was very crowded. On the way he also told me about something called a 'dive pod' which lets people play 'virtual reality' 'games' i didn't really understand what those things were but they sounded really amazing they way he spoke about them. After a long seven hour drive we finally reached his house and it was very big like it could house 4 whole packs of shadow wolves without any of them fighting over the terrirtory. When we entered he showed me all kind of metal and glass things like windows which were walls you could see through and glasses wich were like mini lakes where you could keep your water in and bring it around with you! Humand sure have it easy they have this thing called a bathutub where you can even clean your fur and swim in. This is really amazing! Then he brought me to the room he had his servant which is like someone from his pack whom he can order around to make up for me so that i could sleep there. There was this big egg like thing next to the 'bed' where i should sleep on, he said that was the dive pod for the games he told me about.

When i entered my room and raised my leg to mark my territory i was stoped by Mr. Sherman as he said i dodn't need to do that, when i asked him how others would know that it's my room he said humans just write their name on the door for that. I thought he was tricking me i ran around the house and did indeed not smell any of Mr. Sherman's pee so i concluded that he was indeed telling me the truth so i walked back on my two legs like a human and clawed ' White Shadow' on the door in human letters which sherman had thought me before, it was really easy to learn atleast for me it was.

After a night of rest i woke up early to go hunt for breakfast and came back with a gray rabbit i found outside of the house on the big grassfield owned by mr sherman. When i came back in the house Mr. Sherman was almost scared to death by my prey as he forgot i was raised by wolves and lived off meat haha he told me to try some human food called 'cereals with milk' so i did and spit it out the second it entered my mouth and yelled “ irr horrblrr” ( its horrible ) and ran back to the rabbit i had to leave outside of the house and ate that instead. 'human food is horrible, who would eat such tasteless things' i thought as i enjoyed my rabbit scaring the personal servant of Mr sherman.

While i was eating i hear something odd, it sounded like a car. I ran back in the house and warned mr sherman that there was a car coming to his house and he said it musd be Jack who's coming over.

30 minutes later .

*Ding dong! * i heard a loud noise mr sherman told me that this was the 'doorbell' another one of human inventions telling you there is someone at the door.

As i opened the door i saw a man which must be Jack so i greeted him with telepathy as my human speech isn't realy good. He was startled by the voice in his head i guess because he stepped back a little bit but then walked in and asked me “ who are you ? Also where is mr sherwood ?” without replying i walked to the other room where sherwood was.

“Jack how are you ! “ mr sherwood said sheerfully. Startling Jack again. Haha this jack is funny he jumped when he heard mr sherwood speak haha. “ yo sherwood, who's kid is this? Why doesn'd he speak ?” to which mr sherwood said “ well to tell you the truths its a crazy story i'll tell you but don't spread it around please “ and so he told me about the car crash and me and the wolves i lived with and how he found the flower he was looking for and showed jack the flower which at the moment looked like a normal flower as it only glowed at 'night' not when it's just dark.

After jack left Mr. Sherman told me he had to go to his work tomorrow and that he would teach me to speak latr today and that i could keep manny the servant company and that he would tell me anything i didn't know. And so Mr. Sherman told me how to speak and told his servant to also help me understand words and how to pronounce them.

After a week with Mr. Sherman and Manny i learned how to properly introduce myself and say hello and things like that, i liked the introduction from Jack that day 'Yo' a lot so i will be using that one. So today when Mr. Sherman cam home from work i waited at the door and said “yo good day Mr. Sherman” when he entered and he gave me a pat on my head which felt strange but also funny. As for dinner we had beef and some chicken legs which tasted a lot like the big birds i caught one day but the chicken tasted better when it was baked. But i still liked to hunt rabbits for breakfast, Mr. Sherman didn't mind but Manny told me to not hunt too colose to home because he couldn't stand the blood he had to clean everytime.

I've been living with Mr Sherman for one whole month now and i can speak decently now.

Today i asked if i could go with Mr. Sherman to his work and see the city since i have never seen a city before in person, only on the computer i have in my room which i got form Mr. Sherman.

Mr. Sherman said if i could spaek properly and not run on four legs and act human and not growl, howl or pee publicly and do everything a normal human does i can come but if i act 'wolfish' i will have to go home and won't be allowed to go to the city again so i promised i would behave.

After a long cardrive we finaly reached the outskirts of the city which looked quite small as the houses were not even half that of Mr. Sherman's and i asked why that was so, apperently these people are the lower class – poor people, which means they don't have much money to buy bigger houses. Next we entered the middle class area where the houses slowly got bigger and then in the 'center' of the city were huuuge towers even bigger than most trees in the forest which made me admire them quite a bit.

The car stopped a lot and the driver explained that that was because of traffic lights or something they are colored lights that tell you if you can go ahead of have to stop, wierd huh? Why would humans listen to lights ? It didn't make sense to me so i gave up trying to understand human logic.

Finally we reached our destination : Sunshine Corporation HQ a big building towering above almost all of the other buildings.

Once inside i was stupefied by the size, much like haw Serman was when he first enterd but for me it soon passed over as i got distracted by the masses of people walking everywhere it was quite a scene to see for someone who has never seen more than 3 humans at once haha.

When we reached the elevator Mr. Sherman told me not to get scared by the air pressure from the elevator, i didn't know what he meant untill suddenly the elevator shot up with a speed so fast i got dizzy from the pressure. When we reached the top floor i was greeted by a beautifull scene of clouds and mountains off in the distance it was quite breathtaking then we entered a meeting room with around 20 people including Jack whom i instantly recognised due to his strong 'parfume' he wore.

“ hello everyone, this is my adopted son, he's called White” Mr. Sherman said when we entered the room. All people looked at me with questioning eyes so i shyly stood half behind Mr. Sherman and said “ h-hello im White “ while looking at everyone. Jack coughed and everyone came back to their senses. Some still glanced in my direction but when they made eye contact they quickly turned away... i heard whispers like “ what's with his eyes, he has no pupils “ and similar things so i asked Sherman if i could explain to them its a side effect of my magic cultivation and said i could so i did.

First i cought a bit to draw thier atention and said” I am quite uncomfortablle with all the whispering about my unusual eyes so i will answer your questions … no i am not blind it's a side effect of the magic cultivation i am practicing” they all looked at me in disbelief. “ are you saying you are a mage ? “ one of the women in the room asked in a disdainful tone to which i replied “ yes i guess i am since i can use dark magic i must be a mage no ?” silence reigned through the room and for a full three minutes no one spoke and all stared at me with mixed emotions some fear some hatred and some a kind of admiration, i was quite uncomfortable 'this is worse than the whispers about my eyes …' i thought inside my head looking at sherman to help me. “ calm down people he's not evil just because of his magic attribute right ? “ Jack said before Sherman could say anything and everyone turned to him “ that may be so but isn't dark magic forbidden ??”a man said 'my magic is forbidden ? Why would this great kind of magic be forbidden ??' i was confused about it but couldn't help but ask “ why is it forbidden ?” everyone once again looked at me and i was quite scared of these humans, though i knew they couldn't even scratch my skin they still made me feel fear … humans are scary. Then one man said “ i heard nothing lets forget about it, this kid obviously isn't evil and he's quite cute hahaha “ everyone nodded and went back to buisness as if nothing happened. At the end of the day we went back home and during the car-ride Mr. Sherman was awfully quiet.

When we got back home suddenly Mr. Sherman mood turned and he sheerfully said “ have you tried your dive pod yet ? I think you should start playing some games and interact with other people” as i thought about it i felt it made sense so i said i'd try it the next day.

After a quiet night and my good-morning hunt for breakfast which is a habbit i can't and won't get rid of as i still need to honour my mother. 'i wonder how mother is doing now... i miss you mother ' as i thought about mother i felt a little bit sad but that quickly faded as i walked back home from the forest 3km away from the house. When i came home i tooka bath and then tried some human bread which tasted quite dry but with a slice of ham which is meat it tasted much better.

When i was done eating human food i went to search for Manny and asked him to tell me how to activate the dive pod so i could play the game Mr. Sherman reccomended, altough it was an old game called Sunshine Online he told me i couldd use it to get used to virtual reality so i would be better in his new game Bright Night Online which would launch in about three years time.

When i started the pod it made some buzzing sounds and then filled with a gel to keep the pod comfortable.

When i started the game everything went black and i felt quite odd i felt weak and powerless and i couldn't feel my internal mana anymore. Then everything became bright and my body got most of its strenght back but i still could not feel any mana. I guess that's because of it being a game.

After i made the game character i got to choose my 'character name' so i just went with my normal name 'white shadow' as i was already used to it. in the game i took the tutorial for all classes to see which one fit me best. In the end assassin/rogue fit me the most as it depends on speed and fast movements which i depended on in the woods so it was quite nice. And so i started the adventure in 'Sunshine Online' which is one of the most populair VRMMORPGS at the moment so i could learn to get used to 'games and virtual reality'.

After two and a half year i became one of the best assassins in the game also known as 'the speedster' because i put all my stat points into agility so my movement speed was extreme. At level 100 my agility was at 1000 points and all my other stats around 400-600. even level 200( max) didn't have an agility of 1000 most of the time. But that was just one of the things i did in the game. In the beginning of the game before i got used to it i met a person with whom i started to play the game together and we both had assassin/rogue classes she was the one who took the strenght and trap path while i took the pure agility and dexterety path. We did all dungeons and everything together in the game, her hcaracter name was Vexia. We never met outside the game nor did we talk about our personal lifes much, but we did have a lot of fun.

Today the whole gaming community was in an uproar because sherman and jack have finished their game and announced to the public they will start a beta test in 3 months and release the new game'Bright Night Online' to the public in 6 months time. I was one of the 9999 beta testers thanks to sherman and i asked him if i could have my friend ( vexia ) also be a beta tester and he said if i wanted to i could ask if she'd want to be a beta tester ( who would refuse such an honour haha ) “ yo vexia i have a question “ i said when i logged in and met with vexia “ waht is it ? “ she said. “ would you like to be one of the beta testers for Bright Night Online together with me ?” i asked casually while she suddenly started yelling “ WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!?” … “ i asked- “ before i could answer she grabbed my shoulders and started jumping “ y-y-ye-yes!! i'd love to be a beta tester!!” she stuttered a bit, probablly due to here jumping. I asked where to send the new dive pod called ' Dive pod V2' which was quite plain....

After the long three month wait it was time for the one month long beta test. Players would be 'locked' in the pod for one month to test how safe it wasand all your vital signs would be monitored. After the one month all beta players would be evaluated on howmany bugs and glitches they found, they also would get a reward when the game would officialy launch such as a special skill, race or a rare weapon to begin with.

Hope you all enjoy this chapter, it may have been a bit boring but! The next chapter will be in the game during the beta test, it will be a shorter chapter and a pretty fast one.
