《Revenge of Mages Book 1: The Staff of Runetizo》Chapter 4: Discovering Abilities

I opened my eyes and couldn’t believe what I saw. My mind was jumbled. It was going haywire. Pieces of me danced around, floating around in the void of nothingness. I saw pieces of Kajun, Lujas, and Khel floating around me. Suddenly, I was whole again on the 4th floor. “Well, that was intense,” I commented.
“Well, duh, Captain Obvious!” Kajun grumbled in her usual sarcastic tone. When we got to the door, I got confused.
“How do we open this door?” I questioned Khel.
“You don’t know?!” he chuckled. “Well, our room adjusts by looking at how powerful your magic is and what you like, so you’re supposed to punch the hole and it will show you your magic level, then let you have access. See, look.”
He punched the hole, and true to his word, his stats flashed up. Khel Guanya, wizard. Possible job applications: farmer, mage, horse tamer, cook, and wizard. Magic level: 93. Spells known: Levitate, Cold Wind, Gale, Electric Shock, and Summon. Spells possibly known: 100.
“The magic level shows how strong your magic is. If you have 49 or below magic level, you don’t know or barely know how to use magic. 50-100 means you are an amateur. That’s where most students are. Advanced students and new teachers usually are in the 101-150 range. The 151-200 range is for advanced teachers, but anyone with a magic level above 200 is extremely powerful.” Suddenly, I heard a gasp from the girl’s side.
“OH MY GOODNESS, KAJUN!!! YOU HAVE SUCH A HIGH MAGIC LEVEL! HOW DO YOU HAVE A MAGIC LEVEL OF 175!!!” Someone who I think was Lujas screamed in delight at the other side. Khel and I looked at each other.
“Wow, she has a level of 175! Cool!” Khel broke the silence. “Your turn.”
I punched the hole. Mensal Exypnos, human. Possible job applications: war mage, mage, wizard, dragon rider, general, and dragon advisor. Magic level: 253. Spells known: unknown. Spells possibly known: unknown. “What the-!” Khel stared in awe at the stats. “Even magic scores of 200 are rare, but you have a score of 253! And, wow! You can be a war mage, a mage, a wizard, a dragon rider, even a dragon advisor! And how are your ‘spells known’ and ’spells possibly known’ unknown! There must be so many that the MLD can’t even detect all of them!” Khel turned to face me with wide-open eyes. “We have to take this to Headmaster Cerri!”
Ten minutes later, we were at Headmaster Cerri’s house. It was simple, not a fancy mansion as one would expect. “Hello there Khel- Guanya, isn’t it? And who are you, young man? Ah, I see you’re the newest transport brought in by Ghandeev. Khel, why did you bring this aspiring young man here?”

“Well, his magic level is well beyond normal, 253. Then, his spe-
“Wait, his level is only 23?”
“No, 253. As I was saying-
“WHAT!!! That’s RIDICULOUSLY high! HIGHER THAN ME!!!”
“Yes, I know. As I-
Headmaster Cerri interrupted him again. “No, you don’t understand. He will give us the edge against non-magical humans and people! Finally, this war will end, one way or another!”
“Okay, sir. But what I really wanted to mention is that the MLD couldn’t detect his spells!”
“Wait, he doesn’t know any spells?”
“No, his ‘spells known’ and ‘spells possibly known’ both stated ‘unknown’!”
At this, Headmaster Cerri’s eyes grew wide. He closed his eyes, then vanished.
“Where did he go?” I asked, confused.
“Dunno. Probably the Council of Magic & Mages.” Khel shrugged.
“Wait, what?! The Council of Magic & Mages? Wow, whoever named that has no creativity!” I commented. “Also, why’d he go there?”
“Ah, probably just informing them about you.” He paused. “It’s legendary that someone like you just appears. Ones like you are very rare. And also, the person who named the Council of Magic & Mages probably just has a low creativity score.”
That startled me. “Creativity scores? Do you mean something like our stats? I thought they only existed in video games?”
“What are video-
“Never mind. Anyways, we have a stat screen? How do I open it?”
“Oh, just think ‘stat screen’ and it appears. Don’t worry, I won’t see it.” He replied.
I thought “stat screen”, and as Khel said, my stat screen appeared. Mensal Exypnos, human. Possible job applications: war mage, mage, wizard, dragon rider, general, and dragon advisor. Magic level: 253. Spells known: unknown. Spells possibly known: unknown.
Strength: 32
Magic level: 152
Magic potential: stated, 253.
Luck: 75
Creativity: 114
Magic elements possibly developed: Fire, ice, water, earth, healing, spirit, electric, death, light, metal, summoning, and pure.
Special abilities: beast tamer, invincibility, meditation boost, aura seer.
“Very interesting. Say, what is normal luck, strength, and creativity, Khel?”
“I would say normal strength is 50, normal luck is 50, and normal creativity is 75.”
“Huh! My strength is 17, my luck is 75, and my creativity is 114! And also, how many elements are there, and how many elements are normal to have? Say, what are special abilities?”
“Well, there are 15 elements, the most common being fire, ice, water, plant, and earth. The slightly rare ones are summoning, nature, healing, spirit, electric, and metal. The legendary ones are death, life, dark, light. And special abilities are things that boost you and do exactly what they say.”

“Okay, big surprise. I have thirteen of the elements, with a 13th one called pure. I have 4 special abilities called beast tamer, invincibility, meditation boost, and aura seer.”
Then, I realized that Khel had fainted. I quickly rushed over and used my healing on him.
He woke up with a start. “Excuse me, did I hear you say that you had 13 elements?” I nodded slowly. “Going down!” He slurred, then fainted again.
After I healed Khel again, Khel wobbly got to his feet and told me, “I’ve heard legends about people with pure magic, but never has anyone heard of or saw an actual person with it. There is a prophecy about the One who has pure magic and will turn the tables on non-magical humans and people. And for your special ability, you have aura seer? It—
“No, I have four special abilities: beast tamer, -- Then I realized Khel had fainted yet again.
When Khel came to, he shook his mane of black and brown hair and stared at me. “Wow, again, you just have to keep surprising me. First, you have a magic score of 253. Next, you have 13 elements. Now, you have 4 special abilities. It’s a wonder that no one detected your magic until now! And also, there are only 2 special abilities: beast tamer and aura seer. What are your other two special abilities? Can you tell me? Please, please?” He begged like a small child.
“All right, fine. One of them is meditation boost, which I guess improves my ability to get my magic level to get closer to my magic potential if I meditate. And the other one is invincibility, which I guess gives me a way of becoming invincible in battle, but I don’t know how to activate it. I’m guessing it has a very long cooldown though, probably about half a year.” I replied nonchalantly.
Khel’s eyeballs grew until I thought they were going to explode. Suddenly, Headmaster Cerri materialized. Khel took a deep breath and blurted, “Mensalhassixteenelementswiththesixteenthcalledpureandhealsohasbothspecialbilitieswithtwoextrawithonecalledinvincibilityandtheothercalledmeditationboost. IthinkheistheOnethatTheProphecymentioned.”
Headmaster Cerri’s eyes twinkled as he chuckled. “Khel calm down. I couldn’t make out anything you said!”
“Sorry. I was too excited. What I wanted to say is that Mensal has sixteen elements with the sixteenth called pure and he also has both special abilities with two extras with one called invincibility and the other called meditation boost. I think he is the One that The Prophecy mentioned.”
Cerri’s bushy eyebrows raised at this. He somehow managed to get a face that is a hybrid of a donkey that’s embarrassed and a puckered-up grape. “Boy, you hold some amazing power! So much potential! No wonder Ghandeev picked up your magical scent so easily!”
“Excuse me, sir, I’m hungry. Where is the lunch hall?”I asked the headmaster.
“Don’t call me sir; we call our superiors ‘sir’ and ‘ma'am’, just not by age. We judge by magic level potential. Since you have the higher magic level potential, I will call you sir.”
“Wow! That will certainly intrigue the other students!”I exclaimed, exhilarated by the fact that I no longer had to be that formal with “sirs” and “ma'ams. “Still, you haven’t told me where the lunch hall is. Where is it? I’m starving!!! Where is the lunch hall!? ”My stomach gurgled.
Khel laughed. “I think it’s playing Yorky Light!” (Yorky Light is a famous piece of music composed by Kadasr Lukopilo, inspired by the town of Yorky Springs and how fast light can go)
“Not funny Khel,” I grumbled, then my stomach grumbled again. This time, everyone laughed, including me.
“It’s in the lobby of your dorm. The right side’s the buffet and the left side’s everything that’s not in the buffet.”
“Okay, thanks, gotta go!” I ran to our dorm, grabbed some pizza, and began chomping like a ravenous wolf. After that, I consumed an entire steak in just 3 bites. Then, I gulped down an entire bucket of popcorn just by inhaling for 5 breaths. Khel stepped away slowly, not sure what to do.
“Um, Mensal, I don’t think it is a good idea to eat so much food at once...” I looked at him with a smile and cake icing around my mouth.
“I’m fine now. I was getting hangry.” I breathed out a huge breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “Now that I’m fine, let’s go to our room.”
“Oh, I think you will think it’s more of ‘your’ room and you’ll be very amazed by it.”He gave me a sly grin.
