《Another World? Never Saw This Coming》Chapter 2 (Getting Riled up)

Today was supposed to be just another ordinary day for the Merchant.
The Merchant in question although fairly new to the game of mercantilism had traveled this road quite a few times, and it was always incredibly unbearably boring.
However today, unlike every other day something interesting finally happened.
There was a group of Goblins and a large Ogre, waiting in ambush for any unlucky travelers, and today the merchant just happened to be one.
However the Monsters immediately noticed something was wrong, the goblin closest to the merchant was picked up and ripped in half in an incredibly fluid motion similar to someone snapping a carrot.
Merchant?: “Looks like you picked the wrong person to ambush filth.”
However just as the Merchant Was about to move suddenly something completely unexpected for both the monsters and the Merchant happened.
Johns POV.
John sprinted towards the Ogre trying his hardest to stop what he assumed to be an assault on an unsuspecting caravan.
He kicked off of the ground raising the spear in his right hand he jabbed it as hard as he could into the right eye of the Ogre.
The shaft broke and splintered instantly, but the spear head still went deep into the Ogres head causing the eye and the brain of the Ogre to become soup.
After landing John then used the pocket knife in his left hand to slash at the closest goblin.
He immediately slashed its throat, causing green blood to spray everywhere as it toppled down clutching its neck in vain.
The surrounding goblins were not at all amused by what had just happened to their group, and proceeded to attack.
The goblin closest to John slashed out with its claws, which in turn caused John to dodge into the attack of the next goblin.
As he twisted his body to try to dodge the second attack, the second goblins claw only grazed his calf.
The goblin that first slashed at John however was decapitated in an instant.
The only thing John saw was a flash of silver and a flying goblin head when he glanced over he saw that it was a throwing knife of some type.

However he quickly swapped his attention back onto the goblin that cut his leg, it snarled and screamed: “NAME IS SMERG.” John wanted to yell: ‘WHO CARES?’
While it screamed John used that short amount of time to quickly close the distance between himself and the goblin by jumping.
As he landed he used the foreword momentum to perform an amazing football punt straight into the goblins chin.
The goblin shot off like a rocket into a nearby river and that was the last John saw of it.
John having seen how powerful the kick was smiled proudly however a voice filled with scorn reached his ears.
Merchant: “What the hell was that about you moron, suddenly ending the only interesting thing that ever happened on this road!”
The merchant seemed incredibly angry John however was incredibly confused by what the merchant had just said.
John: “Only interesting thing! I heard a terrible scream and see a bunch of monsters attacking your luggage and you call that INTERESTING?”
Merchant: “You must be new around here those monsters were small fries also that scream wasn’t me it was the goblin that I ripped in half I was going to quickly take care of them and get extra cash from their parts but along came you. Not only did you kill my fun you also got injured in the process truly an idiot.”
John who knew nothing about this where he was could only hang his head in silence as these things were told to him however this could be his last chance for some information about this place.
John: “Um I’m incredibly sorry for ruining your "fun" and for uselessly barging in to your fight but if you wouldn’t mind could I come with you?”
Merchant: “Why the hell should I concern myself with an idiot like you?” the merchant said while cutting off what seemed to be valuable parts of the monsters.
John: “Ahem ignoring the comments about being an idiot as you said I am indeed “New around here” I have absolutely no clue as to what I’m doing nor as to how I ended up here so could you please at least tell me some things about this world or drop me off at the nearest town?”

Merchant: “Nope sorry too much effort I don’t want to involve myself with a troublesome person like you.”
John: “That was totally not the answer I was expecting. HEY hold on what if I gave you the loot from the orcs and shared information about where I’m from, also when I get money I will be sure to pay you back think of it as a debit type thing!”
Merchant: ‘well if I take him I risk being troubled however he could be the cure for my boredom and I get some cash from it, also he seems relatively strong judging by how far that goblin flew’ “Fine I’ll begrudgingly take you with me but you better keep true to your debit”
John: “I promise! However it needs to within a margin of reason I don’t want to become a slave or something.”
Merchant: “shoot hurry up and get on the journey takes about 2 weeks from here”
John: “I could have sworn I just heard you say shoot in response to me not wanting to become a slave.”
Merchant: “nothing of the sort, hurry up or I’ll leave you!”
John climbs onto the seat next to the hooded Merchant and thinks to himself ‘I hope I didn’t just screw up something big by agreeing to a debit’ but for the moment he pushes such worries aside and asks the Merchant a question.
John: “What’s your name?”
Riley: “My names Riley what’s yours?”
John: “My name is John Montem.”
After John and Riley exchange names he realizes something. ‘Shoot Riley as a gender neutral name and the hood and cloak prevent any guesses also I can’t guess a gender from this persons voice truly vexing.’
John: “So excuse my asking but why are you wearing a hood?”
Riley: “Ah about that it was to hide my identity but since it seems like we’ll be traveling together for a while and due to there not being much else out here I suppose it wouldn’t hurt if I took it off”
Riley then proceeds to take off the hood and to John’s surprise it turns out that the crude and rude merchant named Riley was actually a Female.
As John stared at Riley he saw that she had thick amber colored hair with eyes that were red and green, she seemed to be about 5ft 6inches tall and from what he could tell she had a decent figure.
However her most shocking feature happened to be the Wolf ears on top of her head.
John: “Wolf ears huh I guess I really am in another world.”
Right as John said that he fell unconscious...
Riley: “What the hell! Don’t just stare at me like that and pass out!!! Oh wait he passed out from blood loss *sigh* what an idiot.”

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

Each Episode will consist of a sixty second teaser, followed by three to five chapters of about ten minutes reading time apiece. Each Episode will also contain one or two songs I have written personally, with the lyrics incorporated into the storyline. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I have had with writing it.
