《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 12

(July 4)

Today, we got more soldier recruits.

I don't even understand why we need more soldiers, we already have a massive army and my squad has plenty of people.

And the days are quite peaceful, a majority of the soldiers just train and do missions or guard.

I guess the more people and the stronger the army, the better and safer it feels, I guess.

I'm not too good with political power and stuff so I wouldn't understand anyways.

I talked with a couple of the new members of our team, and they seemed quite friendly. Most of them were E rank with a couple D rank. Pretty average I would say.

(July 12)

William taught me how to control and use my dragon essence in battle.

He told me he thinks I'm finally at a level where I can practice controlling my body with purely dragon essence.

"But you're progressing at a much slower pace then I expected, at this rate it may take decades..."

is what he said... I'LL SHOW HIM!!!

But then he proceeded to obliterate me in battle.

After he beat me up, he told me to heal myself with dragon essence as quick as possible while using as little energy as possible. Efficiency was important.

By concentrating inside my mind, I sped up the process of regenerating and controlling it so I didn't waste any energy.

William nodded and told me I had to learn how to do this in an instant, during battle, without getting distracted from the battle. In battle, I wouldn't have time to sit down and concentrate on my healing so I had to learn to do it in an instant.

I practiced healing all day until all my energy ran out and I couldn't even heal anymore and I was injured all over.

My entire body is so sore...

Regenerating myself again and again was painful, its like ripping apart your muscles and then regenerating them again. Similar to working out but harsher. Though this makes me grow stronger faster, because I'm literally ripping and growing my muscles.

I continued learning dragon essence with William, he made me and taught me how to equally spread out dragon essence throughout my body which boosted my entire body temporarily.

Doing so allowed me to run faster, hit harder, jump higher and etc.

Quite useful.

One month until the festival and the tournament.

Even Briggs and Cornelia were training on their own.

Me and the squad of solders were sent out to go hunt monsters, and to obtain their materials to use for making weapons and armor.

We hunted boars, and bears and a lot of other monsters. We would drag the monster corpse onto a wagon and pull it back.

We also dealt with problems around the city.

While I was in the city, I heard rumors of neighboring cities were building up their army, and people are afraid a war might break out.

A war?

Pretty unlikely in my opinion.

It's peaceful, and there hasn't been a war for a long time. There would be no reason for a war to start.

Though I can totally see why people would think that, wait a second. Aren't we also recruiting more soldiers as well?

(Aug 2)

The sun was hot, and we were continuing to train.

Where I am now, in the winter there wasn't any snow but it was mildly cold. The summer however were burning hot.

The climate here was very warm and hot.

The armor soldiers wear while on duty were made of metal and due to the heat it was burning hot, and would absorb even more heat.

Most of the soldiers actually passed out, it was hot even for me, a part dragon! But I was able to resist most of the heat though.

William taught me a cool trick, if I were to control my energy in my body and circulate it properly and releasing excess energy, I can cool down my body and keep out extra heat.

This trick allowed me to stay cool in heat, but warm in the cold weather.

Also it can be used to train your subconscious mind to control your energy.

(Aug 13)

The hype for the festival was crazy.

The excitement.

The vibe.

Some of my pals were pretty nervous for the tournament though. Cornelia and Briggs were participating in the tournament as well, so if any of us were to face them, we'd be out of the tournament already.

And other strong people were going to fight in it as well, so we have to be prepared.

(Aug 16)

There was a thief, and I chased after the thief.

So what happened was, I was patrolling the city streets for my duties when I heard shouting, I dashed over and I saw a guy ripping out a purse from a couple of ladies and then run off.

I chuckled to myself, looking at how amateurish he was. Struggling and using too much wasted movements, while the thief was using all of his energy to scramble away.

This would be quite fun, I had thought to myself.

Ya know, I could train myself while still doing my duty so I chased after the thief.

I easily streamed dragon essence onto my legs and propelled myself forwards, while lowering my weight and controlling my body.

I reached the thief in an instant and grabbed his arm, he turned around and tried to punch me to get away, but I quickly kicked his knees causing him to kneel and bend over.

I tried my best to control my strength and not hurt him but he was squirming around like a fish, so I pushed him to the ground and called out for the people to go bring more soldiers to help me arrest the thief.

I kept him pinned down for a bit in awkward silence as he continued to squirm and curse at me until soldiers arrived.

We arrested him and I let the other guards do the rest.

I felt pretty proud of myself, if it were me before, I wouldn't have so easily done what I just did, but since I've trained a lot since I got stronger and more skilled!

But I was slapped down by William who later told me my growth is basically snail speed.

William told me not to get arrogant because I have dragon blood within me and I should train hard. Dragon blood makes my potential and growth faster but since I'm still mostly human, my growth isn't as amazing.

And dragon essence has high advantage over other dragons since dragons take more damage against dragon essence, but for any other monster I fight, dragon essence won't have an advantage. So I still have to train to become stronger.

If I become strong normally, then I'll be even stronger against dragons.

William sure knows how to ruin my mood and bring me down, eh...

(Aug 20)

2 more days until the tournament, and 3 more days until the festival.

Briggs and Cornelia aren't training us anymore because they're busy training themselves, heck even William is training himself! William is participating as well as a wizard!

So I'm left training alone.

I decided to train in the forest outside the city against real monster, yes it's dangerous because things can go wrong but I was pretty confident.

I wasn't too reckless and fought monsters one on one.

I even took down ogres by myself, an ogre that once took an entire squad including me to beat.

I killed a couple ogres, my first ogre I sneaked up on it and killed it by surprise in one hit while the next one I fought.

The battle took a long time, as I was still inexperience against ogres.

It took me a good half hour to learn all of it's moves, thinking patterns and movement timings and speed.

Ogres are usually quite slow, but if you underestimate it then it can still be quite fast at times.

Although they are reckless and unpredictable, you can still somehow see it's moves before they attack if you fight it long enough and know it well enough.

If they raise their hands, they're likely to do a downward swing.

If they take a step back, it's probably going to swing it's arm and slash or grab at you.

If it roars, it's probably going to do a reckless attack so stay back.

If it bends down low, it's probably going to leap at you.

And etc etc etc, with these patterns in mind all you have to do is react and dodge, then strike at it's weaknesses.

The third ogre I killed, was killed quite quickly now I knew it's patterns and killed it under 10 minutes.

But now I have three ogre corpses... how the hell am I going to drag them back to the city? It's a waste to just leave them here.... I can sell their bodies for some good money too... what a waste.

I should've brought a wagon or cart for their corpses.

Oh well, maybe next time.

(Aug 22)

It's here, the day of the tournament...

Now we fight, I wish myself good luck.
