《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 13

(Aug 22)
The roars of the crowd, the entire kingdom was in uproar.
This was the day.
The day of the tournament.
You can hear the roars and cheers of the crowd in the arena sidelines from anywhere in the city, the sheer voices shouting caused the earth to shake.
At 10 AM, the tournament started.
Over 400 participants, only 1 winner.
Since there were so many people, they couldn't do a one on one battle for every single person or that would take way to long so they split all the participants into 8 massive groups.
Everyone in their groups will fight it out, and the last two remaining fighters standing of each of the groups will proceed onto the final 16 fighters.
Then the final 16 will each have a one on one battle with each other in a tournament bracket style.
Hopefully I can make it to the top 16. It'll be quite tough though, there are a lot of strong people, I can only hope I'm not pitted against too many strong people right off the bat.
The 8 groups have just been decided, I'm in group C and there's a little over 50 people in my group.
Thankfully Briggs and Cornelia aren't in my group, however there is another A ranker who I think her name is Titania. I heard a couple things about her, she uses a bow and has amazing accuracy and can shoot multiple magic arrows at once.
She'll be quite tough, besides her there are also a couple B rankers as well. I'm more confident against other B ranks, so I'll try to avoid Titania and try and get second last fighter standing.
Since I'm in group C, my group is the third one to go out and fight.
How the group fights work is that, the stage is levitated into the air using magic, and below is a pool of water. The goal is to knock each other off of the platform, no killing is allowed.
The group A battle is starting right now.
The fighters are entering the platform, and when everyone went onto it, the platform rose into the air.

Briggs was one of the fighters along with Brian as well. Briggs is probably going to be one of the two last standing fighters as he was the only A ranker.
A loud firework shot into the air and exploded, which was the start for the battle to begin.
All of the fighters roared and charged at each other, fighting each other randomly. It was wild. You could hear the clashes of blades, explosions and booms of magic spells, sounds of people shouting and screaming.
Briggs jumped right into the air and with all his weight, he canon balled right into the center of the platform causing cracked to appear and made a mini earthquake, everyone instantly turned their attention right to Briggs and he grinned.
He roared out like bear and with a massive swing of his greatsword (a blunt great sword designed for the tournament not to injure anyone) he knocked 3 people off, and with the force of his swing Briggs leapt into the air against and landed right onto another fighter.
Briggs grabbed the skull of the other fighter and tossed the guy off right into the water with a SPLASH. Briggs was crazy, like he was some kind of mutant berserker.
Now most people tried to back away and avoid Briggs, they realize they weren't his match but there were a few idiots who tried attack and grouping up on Briggs. A mage shot a couple air bullets at Briggs but Briggs spun around in a circle like a bey-blade and literally cut the air itself in half, the sheer force of his swing caused an air blade made from the wind pressure to shoot out and knock the mage off of the platform.
At the same time, on the other side of the platform an explosion happened, there was a guy chucking bombs (non lethal) at each other.
A massive tanker, covered in iron armor holding two massive great shields charged at the bomber like a bull and knocked him off. The tanker was a famous B ranker.
He could potentially be the other last fighter standing besides Briggs.

However that thought was proven to be wrong when an assassin dressed in black suddenly appeared on top of the tankers head and wrapped her arms around his neck and choked him until he was unconscious, not killing him though and she tossed the tankers body into the water.
Another B ranker.
She was quite good, extremely fast and stealthy.
The battle raged on, a lot of good fighters showed off their strength and talents, and I made sure to observe everyone to gather knowledge, ideas and try to improve myself.
Watching someone else battle, can sometimes give you an idea on how to improve yourself and can give you cool things to try out.
The battle ended, and as predicted Briggs was the last remaining survivor and the second last was the B ranked assassin.
The crowd cheered again after witnessing such an amazing battle where Briggs basically dominated the field like the BEAST he was. The dudes a damn chad.
After a little break, the second group (group B) came onto the platform and once again the platform rose.
William was in group B.
This was one of the battles I'm most excited for, I get to see William going all out and I can see his spells in battle.
It's not everyday you get to see a high tier wizard in action, so I'll be focusing and seeing if I can learn anything from watching.
Again, loud fireworks shot up into the air which commenced the start of the battle.
Most people in the battle knew William was an A ranked wizard and thus they targeted him first.
William raised his hand and pushed his glasses up his nose, kind of like an evil villain and he smirked.
When a couple people had reached William within a meter range, suddenly they got blasted away by an unknown force. At a first glance it looked like an invisible barrier, but no. William froze the air around him and created a gust of freezing air pushing the people away from him like a barrier.
A-amazing! He did that in an instant with no signs of movement!
Suddenly the light in William's glasses flashed and William pulled out his staff, he was getting serious now.
With a gentle tap on the ground with his staff, the ground started freezing and white frosty steam rose from his staff.
The frost steam condensed and formed tiny balls of ice, hundreds of tiny balls of ice surrounded William, floating around randomly.
An arrow shot out from no where towards William but without even turning, the arrow itself froze in midair and crumbled into small pieces of ice before even touching William.
I got the shivers now, if William was prepared and we weren't in a closed off space during our first meeting, then he actually might have killed me...
William raised his staff into the air and all of his ice balls started vibrating, and then shot out towards all the fighters in the arena.
The ice balls must've shot towards everyone, like it had an auto detection or something and it homed in onto it's target.
When the ice balls hit or got near their target, they exploded and ice shards flew everywhere causing it to feel like it was raining ice itself.
Hmmmm...
Homing onto the target.... good idea, I'll try that with my fireballs...
With just that one attack, his ice ball barrage knocked out over half of the contestants. He was wiping out the fighters faster then Briggs was! Holy crap...
The ones who were able to dodge/ withstand the attack from William were all at least C-rank or B rank otherwise they wouldn't have been able to survive (not get knocked off) from that.
At that moment all the fighters knew they had to focus on defense and dodging instead of fighting, they knew they stood no chance. This was the massive gap between B rank and A rank.
William was a wizard, yet none of them could even get close.
This was the strength of a true A rank.

A Titan's Crusade
Erik Thayne spent most of his life being brutally ridiculed and tormented for his weight and physical appearance, among other things. A social pariah and diagnosed with an eating disorder no one has an explanation or treatment for, Erik spent years trying to overcome his issues with his personal image and escape the ridicule and vicious torment of his peers. After years of dedicated effort, and a fresh start in a town away from his childhood and adolescent tormentors, he had finally begun to truly realize what he'd been striving for all along. Only, fate apparently has other plans because in the blink of an eye, Erik found himself snatched from Earth and taken to another universe, another world, where he is offered the chance to be more than he'd ever imagined. Now, he has to fight to restore the Balance between Chaos and Order on a world of swords and magic, in a universe governed by the System's laws, which resemble those of RPGs from Earth. Erik learned to embrace the things about himself that others taught him to hate, using them to reforge his physical identity into something more removed from his old self-loathing. But can he learn to embrace the darkest parts of his mind just as he did the reviled aspects of his body and become who he needs to be to succeed in the task set before him? It might just prove easier to stalk in the dark as a monster than to walk in the light as a man... *This is my first time publishing anything I've written to a public audience. Due to formatting issues, I forwent traditional stat-screens for something a little less problematic, delineating stat screens by separating them from regular text with horizontal lines in a lighter-grey coloration. Let me know if you like them or not. Criticism is entirely welcome, but please don't hate on my work after only reading 1 chapter. This is a writing project I intend to complete but I have committment problems so we'll see how long this goes on. Also, fair warning, as the description implies, the main protagonist is intended to be someone who has been treated cruelly, developed antisocial tendencies, and ultimately has to question his own humanity--or lack thereof. This story is not intended to be brutally dark but I will definitely be trying to follow a darker theme. It is intended to be violent and some scenes later in the story might be...alarming. There will likely also be some light, non-graphic (think more implied with crude jokes and conversation than actual details, there will be no full-blown sex scenes)relationship scenes planned later and if you're opposed to either a bisexual or gay main character, stay away. I haven't yet decided which way he's going to swing but the odds on him being straight are relatively miniscule, and I've always wanted to write a story about a gay man who basically looks like a lumberjack because who doesn't like giving conventional stereo-types the middle finger? This will NOT be a harem story, and I have no intention to focus on romance over action--it's a consequence of character development where I'm concerned, not the be-all-end-all of the story. The cover-art does not, in any way, belong to me. It was an image titled the Druid King (by duskanmarkovic according to the file name) which I found on Google Images. Until I can get something commissioned, this is the best stand-in image I could find.

Or, the one where some power-hungry immorals decided to put the words "bijuu," infinite," "natural energy," and "psuedo" together in one sentence, not necessarily in that order.
