《How I Slayed A Dragon》Chapter 11

(June 23)

Yesterday after passing out, the hippogriff fled.

It was bleeding and it had fatal wounds, so it had probably died and we all assumed so, but it was not certain.

The villagers rushed out when they saw the hippogriff leave and brought me to a doctor.

The doctor said the wounds were fatal and I was going to die, however for some reason my body regenerated abnormally fast and the wounds closed up naturally. In fact it seemed like I got stronger after healing up!

Haha...

The dragon blood inside me is turning me into some crazy monster, to think it could regenerate such wounds in a couple hours... but I guess it's not dragon blood for nothing. At least I didn't die though so it's all fine.

After resting throughout the night and waking up this morning feeling quite refreshed, I went outside and found a couple solders from the city that had arrived as reinforcements.

A higher ranked officer was there speaking to some villager and when she noticed me she also came over to me and asked a couple questions on what happened.

I explained to her everything that happened, including the hippogriff and the monster attacks.

She nodded and told me to be prepared to come investigate with them.

Crud, I have to leave soon. I nearly died yesterday yet these bastards won't even let me rest.

Whatever. I am quite curious to find out why this happened.

-

After I changed my clothing and grabbed my weapon and gear, I headed out of the hotel I was staying at and met up with the high ranked officer along with her squad.

Their goal was to track down the hippogriff and confirm it's death.

Also to figure out why it was rampaging and to see if they could put a stop to the monster attacks.

The squad was made up of 5 C-rank, with the higher ranked officer being the only B rank. With this squad, they should be able to easily or with minimal effort, be able to defeat a hippogriff, depending on the situation of course.

When the hippogriff had fled after our battle yesterday, it left a long trail of blood so it wasn't that hard to track it down.

All we had to do was follow the blood trail, and it was already injured so it shouldn't have gone far or be hard to subdue.

After following the blood trail for around 5-10 minutes we were led into a forest, and we entered it with caution.

Deeper inside, we finally arrived at the end of the blood trail to find the hippogriff on the ground... dead.

And beside the hippogriff, was the corpse of a man.

The investigation squad quickly got to work to identify the corpse's identity and confirm the hippogriff's death.

The hippogriff was dead.

They were dismantling it's body and were going to gather it's materials. Monster corpse contained valuable materials for equipment after all, would be a waste to leave it...

Then they started checking the corpse of the person who was found dead next to the hippogriff.

The corpse confirmed that he was dead for a while now and there were no external wounds so we can assume it wasn't the hippogriff that killed him.

Was it a coincidence that the hippogriff happened to die next to this man's corpse or...

No. It was not a coincidence.

After a bit of investigating, one of the guys in the squad told us that the corpse belonged to a former A ranked summoner who used to work in the city named Simon.

The hippogriff used to be one of his summoned familiars.

I asked them then why did the hippogriff get so hostile then, and they explained that once a summoned monster's master dies, the monster will slowly lose it's intelligence and it's memories and will revert back to being a monster.

But even so that didn't explain why it suddenly become hostile and attack villagers, normal hippogriffs were pretty neutral and passive.

They were also quite confused as well, the higher officer said that she met Simon before he went missing and she claimed his hippogriff back then was very friendly and calm.

We came up with a couple theories on what could've been the case.

The best and most plausible theory the squad came up with was that the hippogriff had seen it's master died, and it wanted to get help. But it's mind was slowly deteriorating back into a monster.

It's determination, loyalty and emotions effected it even after reverting to a mindless monster and losing all of it's memory.

The hippogriff didn't remember anything, but it's determination and loyalty to get help for it's master caused it to seek out humans.

It didn't know what it was doing, it just knew it had to. Because that's all the hippogriff could feel after losing all of it's memories of it's master.

However since it was still a mindless monster, the emotions and the feeling of loyalty caused the hippogriff to go crazy...

I gave a silent prayer to the hippogriff, even though it was a monster, we fought a couple times. I learnt a lot from it. It was more then a mere monster, it was a rival for a short of time.

May you find peace up there with your former master. You have fulfilled your part, we will give your master a proper burial.

I finally got back to the city and I got a promotion!

After confirming my feats, the higher ups decided to raise my rank to B rank! Hell yea! That also means a pay raise! More money!

I attended Simon's burial funeral but I felt like didn't belong there as Simon's parents were there and they were all crying and got all emotional, so I left.

Although I was sad and wanted to respect Simon, I personally didn't even know Simon.

In fact I didn't know he existed until two days ago.

After that I got a break, no work, no training, just a free day off.

Just relax.

I spent most of the day in the city, eating, drinking, hanging out with DA BOIS. Then I headed home to sleep.

(June 26)

Back to more training and work.

I met with William again, he told me he visited my village.

I was quite surprised when he told me he had traveled to my hometown and back while I was gone.

Then he made me do more training, I showed him the new spells I learnt while I was gone but he seemed unimpressed.

Then he proceeded to make 5 ice spears pointed at my face with a wave of his hand.

-

Training with Cornelia, she told us Briggs was sick.

Briggs was sick.

HE'S SICK.

A BEAR LIKE HIM IS SICK???

Imagining a massive guy like Briggs getting sick and staying in bed felt very out of place...

Cornelia made us train our agility, and mobility today.

We were forced to run laps and laps and laps and laps... she taught us how to breath properly so we have more stamina and how we should run to use less energy but still be fast.

She told us to relax our legs muscles as we run and to conserve as much energy to be as efficent as possible.

We learnt a lot of stuff and by the end of the day, we were all dead tired.

The days were peaceful, Cornelia and Briggs must have a lot of time on their hands to train us nearly every day.

I wish everyday was peaceful, no dragons, no monster, no fighting...
