《You're Mecha-ing Me Crazy!》Chapter 1: The Start

Today was the day the new game [Otomech Full Drive] game came out to virtual reality systems everywhere. The initial launch of the game was a success. Multiple players enjoyed the alpha and beta phase of the game and with all the hot reviews about it so many people were pre-ordering the release in hopes to obtain exclusive bonuses in the game. Of course I was one of those people who preordered the game.
“Where are you going in such a hurry Rama?”
“Where else?” I slowly took out the case for [Otomech Full Drive], “Going home to pop in this bad boy.” I let out the biggest grin towards my coworker.
“No way! You actually were able to get your hands on that? Ahh I’m so jealous, the preorders were limited so I missed out.”
“Don’t worry friend.” I patted him on the back. “I’ll let you know how it is.” I stuck out my tongue and gave him the biggest thumbs up.
“Whatever Rama, I hope you get screwed over by bad luck.”
“Don’t be jealous, I’ll let you try it after I get way ahead in the game.” I let out a hearty laugh as I packed my bags and headed out. I hurried back to the house and ate my dinner quickly. I hurriedly changed into my sleeping outfit while flinging my clothes everywhere as I did so. I took out the case for the game and popped it into the machine. I took out the Virtual Reality gear. I laid in bed and popped on the helmet.
Are you ready? YES NO
Those options appeared before my eyes. I hovered over the [YES] option and the game began. My nerves and senses connected with the machine and the game took over. I was sent through a rainbow colored portal made of data and code and the very end of the tunnel was the character selection screen of the game.

“Oh man, that shit never gets old.” I looked around and checked out my surroundings.
The options for the character selection were quite limited. The default look just pretty much took my real life appearance. I was an average height male with long black hair that reached down to my shoulders and brown eyes. Nothing really stood out about me besides my fancy circular glasses. The only thing you could customize and choose from in the game were the Otomech frames.
“Mhmm let’s see what kind of frames you get to start off with.” I waved my hand in front of me to begin the selection process.
ATTACK FRAME DEFENSE FRAME SUPPORT FRAME
“Only three options to choose from? That’s kind of a bummer.” I shook my head in disappointment.
I chose the [Defense Frame]. The frame core wasn’t bulky as I had imagined, but the default armor on the frame though was really clunky looking.
ACCEPT DECLINE
Options appeared before me once again. I pondered a bit on my choice of frame. The reasoning behind going for the defense frame was because since this was a new game I was heading into, I rather be tanky since my gear and skill optimization would be easier to develop and during combat all I would just need to do was be a meat shield and not do anything. I laughed to myself. I pondered enough and accepted into the game.

The screen went dark. Then brightness enveloped the whole environment. Before my eyes was a large grassy plain with the winds breezing through the flowers. The sky was blue as the sea with very few clouds.
“Ahh this sensation.” I looked at my hands and feet. “Everything seems to be in order.” I felt the grass below me and picked a flower and sniffed it. “All my senses seem to be here.” I looked forward towards the horizon. “Alright. Let’s do this!” I threw my fist in the air in excitement.

“Actually...” I lowered my fist towards my waist.
“Hold on...” I looked around my surroundings.
“...” I hunched over then quickly arched my back and flung my head upwards towards the sky.
“WHERE’S MY MECH?” I yelled out loud. Disappointed I knelt to the ground with my head hanging low. That was when I got a tap on my shoulder. I looked back to see it was a girl.
“Welcome to [Otomech Full Drive] did you read the beginner’s manual?” The girl asked me as she looked down on my sad, dejected face.
I shook my head towards her with tears slowly forming in my eyes.
“Ahh well let me explain a few things to you...”
After a few minutes of her bombarding me with words, I understood what I was supposed to do. Apparently I’m supposed to head down this path until I eventually reach the [Beginner’s Town] where I’ll have to do quests to finally unlock my Otomech.
“Man this is such a hassle. But thanks anyways! Can I get your name?” I put both my hands on her shoulders and looked into her face.
“It’s Camille!” She smiled back at me.
“Well thanks Camille. I’m glad I met you here, what are the chan-” before I could finish the sentence something caught my eye. I slowly panned up above her head to see an [NPC] text floating above it. I let out a disappointing sigh and let her go.
“And here I thought you were a goddess sent from real life.”
“Rude! Even though I’m just an NPC I’m programmed to act as a human as possible. In which case your words hurt mister.” She gave me a stern look waving her finger at me.
I was taken aback by her response.
“Wow NPCs have really come along way.” I thought to myself as I looked at her once again. “Sorry Camille, well thanks anyways. See you soon?” I gave her the flower I was still holding onto.
“Probably not” She smiled as she just promptly rejected me.

Sad and rejected I turned away from Camille and finally began making way towards the [Beginner’s Town].
