《17》12. Vampires

"Take me to him."

I was barely able to hear those four words due to how quiet but infuriated he sounded. His body is shaking, as was mine, but with different reasons. Him with anger, and I with fear not only for myself, but for him. I could not even contemplate properly what he just blurted out. I couldn't speak nor breath.

"That is not wise, wolf." The vampire ridiculed, turning his body as he begins to leave.

"Take me to him if you know what's best for you."

My blood runs cold as my body remains petrified from fear. Lysander glanced at me, and I had seen pure rage in his eyes. I shook my head and sent him a pleading look, silently begging him not to go with his reckless plan. "D-don't." It was all I could choke out.

The vampire slowly turned his body to focus on me. He has a wicked grin on his lips as he ran in front of me, which almost seemed like magic as it was impossibly fast. His red eyes dilated while I cowered in fear, not knowing what to do. I could hear Lysander screaming, "What are you doing?!" He was ready to attack, but the vampire did not even touch me.

I couldn't tear my gaze from the vampire's red eyes. It suddenly glowed into bright green, and I felt this overwhelming tiredness enter my body. My vision started to darken as my body begin to weaken. The last thing I was able to see is the vampire's grin spreading and Lysander running to catch me as I collapsed.

When I returned to consciousness, I found that I was back in my apartment. In my room with complete darkness and silence. I reached my mirror and saw that I had no marks of injury. Not a scratch. It is only six in the afternoon, so Eva is still at work and Rami is still interning at Silverstein.

I knew it wouldn't work, but I picked up my phone and called Lysander. But of course, I ended up with that robotic voice telling me to leave a voicemail.

"Fuck."

My heart started to pound as my mind thought of many scenarios of where Lysander is right now. That vampire took Lysander to a place full of vampire. The only living werewolf had gone to a place full of vampires. That doesn't sound good to me in any sense and I am terrified.

I need to look for him.

***

I didn't bother taking my car, which just somehow happened to be parked in front of the apartment, as I walked through the quiet streets of West Grove. I'm sure I looked ridiculous, like a mother looking for her lost child. Only, I'm looking for my lost werewolf that is over a hundred years old.

The forest is where I decided to check. I returned to where we were earlier, but there was no sign of a werewolf and a vampire being there. I searched for about an hour when I lost daylight. Still, I continued. Sure, I saw a shit ton of creepy animals but I kept on going.

Eventually, I became exhausted and rested by a little pond. When I was catching my breath, I heard twigs snapping behind me. Instantly, I pulled out my pepper spray from my pocket and backed away, ready to face whoever is about to kill me.

Though, instead of launching at me like I was expecting, the person stepped away from the tree he was hiding and rested his back against it, facing me with his arms crossed. Red eyes, black hair, and a mischievous smirk that hides those sharp fangs. He's wearing all black. Formal, entire black suit and tie. Although his presence brings a certain dark and powerful aura, his appearance wasn't much to be feared for.

He is just as young as the vampire from earlier, if not a year older. I'd say he's 19 year old or younger. However, he is indeed a vampire so I am sure he is much older than that. It's just that he has the face and body of a teenage boy. He's skinny and tall, but like I said, I'm sure there's more than meets the eye.

"Well, this is interesting." He smirks with amusement. "Where is your pet?"

I clutched my pepper spray tightly as I glared at him. "As if you don't know!"

The vampire furrowed his eyebrows. He stepped closer towards me, making me automatically back away. Being a complete dumb ass, I almost fell back to the pond. However, the vampire quickly caught my arms and pulled me against him.

"Are you afraid, darling?" He asked, eyes darkening.

I was wrong. His appearance is a scary, if he wanted to look it. My heartbeat quickened and my breath hitched as he leaned closer to my face. Then all of a sudden, he laughed and backed away, though not releasing his hold on my arm. Before I realized what was happening, I felt a gush of wind and everything around me moving, as if I was running through a tunnel of giant pictures.

Then, everything stopped. Lightheaded, I observed my surroundings and almost vomited. I don't know what the hell just happened but I am on a completely different place. I am inside a house. A massive house, bigger than Eva's boss' mansion. There are tainted windows, only a couple of them. But no other opening except the door. Overall, it's an exceptional house. Definitely a rich owner.

"It's great, isn't it?" A voice in front of me bragged. The same vampire stands in front of me, his hands on his pockets. Not only that, but there are other people surrounding us. We are in a room that looks like a living room, except like five times bigger. Other than the vampire who had taken me, there are other vampires, at least fifteen of them. I know because they are all pale, red-eyed, and fanged. They are, however, all young. Almost all of them look like young adults, between 16-18 year old. Based on their appearances, I'd say the vampire who took me looks the oldest. There is a girl who looks the youngest, maybe 15 or 16, but very little and it makes my heart jumps.

I'm in a place full of vampires. Young vampires -- or young looking vampires, I should say. I am a human. Vampires drink human blood. I am about to be vampire dinner for tonight. This is how I am going to go down, isn't it? Just when I meet the most interesting person in the world, my life ends.

"She certainly has some funny things going on in her head." A tall girl with red hair, around the age of 17 comments, staring at me with a smirk that matched the other vampire's. "But, I must say, you're wrong. Maybe I'm the most interesting person you'll ever meet. Not some mutt." She winked, causing my face to heat up.

"She smells absolutely delicious." A boy who looks 16 sits next to me while licking his lips.

"Alright. That's enough playing with the girl's emotions. You will scare her to death." The vampire who took me frowned at the girl and boy who had spoken, waving his hand dismissively. It looks to me like he is the leader of all these vampires, judging by the way they stand behind him and follow him. He is respected.

I sat uncomfortably on a soft chair while the group of vampires watched me. If it wasn't for their red eyes and sharp fangs, I wouldn't be on edge too much. But mind you, they can literally tear me to pieces and suck my blood in matter of seconds.

"We aren't going to hurt you." Says the same girl from earlier, who now sends me a small smile. "Not like we can, even if we want to, anyway." Oh. I don't know if she's nice or scary. I think both.

"Let me do the talking, Eleanor." The leader vampire rolls his eyes, making the girl grin. "Alright. Andromeda, let's talk."

"Where is Lysander?!" I blurt out, gripping on the armrest I was sitting on. The vampire from earlier took him, and this vampire in front of me looks like he is the boss, so Lysander must be here. He has to. In this massive place, Lysander has to be locked up here somewhere.

"How would we know where your dog went?" The vampire laughs.

"You took him!"

"I would never let a mutt in my house." He replies with a grimace. The other vampires nodded in agreement, some looking disgusted. "What makes you think we would have him?" His expression and tone basically says 'humor me'.

I fiddled with my hair nervously, trying to ignore the other vampires. I took a deep breath and faked my confidence as I straightened up. "There was a vampire, one of you. Lysander and I saved his life from getting killed by a hunter and as a thank you, I guess, he came to warn us earlier about the hunters and about you." I pointed at the leader, who looks quite surprised and completely amused at the same time. "He said that his boss thinks I'm his soulmate and that he is after me. So Lysander, he's very protective. He said his wolf is going through some things and the wolf wants me or something, so his wolf got mad. Lysander told the vampire to take him to the boss, and that would be you."

After that story, I received some snickers from the vampires, including the leader himself.

"Darling, you are a sight for sore eyes, yes. And you do smell quite delicious." He says, walking closer to me but not enough to make me uncomfortable. I mean, I already am uncomfortable being here with vampires but still. At least I wasn't losing my mind or anything just yet. "But I have no interest in you, nor do I think you're my soulmate. Vampires do not have soulmates."

"We don't even have souls, honey." The girl, Eleanor, laughed loudly, while the others laughed along with her.

"Also, you are mistaken." The leader continues. "I do not have your pet. None of my clan members is missing. The vampire you've encountered with, is not one of us." That did not make me feel better in anyway. In fact, it only scared me even more. Where could he be? What happened to him? What does that vampire want to do with him? Who is that vampire anyway?! "But, you are correct on one thing. I have been after you, you could say. Not in a sense that I want to eat you or want you for myself, none of that. But because I've been trying to figure out if you are the one who can help us."

"Help you?" This is not what I expected at all. "For what? How?!"

"You are a smart woman. I have been watching you for a while now to observe your skills and talents. For years, vampires have been in hiding. Our body is not the same as humans, obviously. We burn at the touch of sunlight and cannot come out during the day because of it."

"That one vampire that took Lysander, he can come out during the day." I contradicted, remembering the vampire walk through the day like nothing.

"That means he either has someone helping him or he's just used to the pain." The vampire points out. "Before, there were witches who helped us with that. They could make spells and potions that allowed us to blend in with the humans. But these silly little humans cannot resist dominance and violence. They killed witches in the most cruel ways, and now there are none. If there is one, they must be terribly good at hiding that not even vampires can find them."

Witches. Holy shit. All those witches talk in history class. It's true.

"Werewolves, witches, and many other supernatural beings have disappeared because of humans. Vampires are immortals and cannot die without proper equipment, so we keep living. Some have killed themselves because they cannot stand hiding, but there are still a few of us who have no choice but to hide." My eyes scanned the group in front of me and my heart sank a little. I know they are vampires and not look their age, but they look like children. Teenagers. They don't have freedom to come out. But then again, they are vampires and will kill humans for blood. It's evolution. Natural selection! That's just the way nature chose it to be.

"It may surprise you, but we don't need human blood. We need blood, but not exactly human blood." Eleanor adds. I take it she can read minds. "Yes I can." Fuck. "Vampires like us," She pointed at her friends. "We get blood from animals. When we do drink human blood, we get them from hospitals. But never kill humans unless necessary. Humans already do that by themselves -- the unnecessary killing."

She's not wrong.

"We want to be able to come out during the day and blend in without the humans trying to kill us." The leader explains. "And you, a smart woman, should be able to help us with that."

My mouth dropped in surprise. "Me?! What?! How the fuck am I supposed to do that?! I'm not a witch!"

"No, but you have connections and intelligence to make something that will help us. Something that will allow our bodies to not burn. We mean no arm, Andromeda. No harm at all. At least, my clan doesn't. As for the other vampires beyond this coast, I am not sure."

My head began to hurt as I took all the information I was just told. I don't even know where to begin thinking. Lysander is not with them and he is still lost. That was my main purpose. And now I learned that I am apparently the chosen one to make them something to help them not burn. How am I supposed to do that? I don't fucking know. Maybe I'll just Google it.

But will I help them, even if I magically could do it?

He did say he means no harm and Eleanor was right about humans. Humans already do the killing by themselves. If vampires wanted to do it, they would have done it a long time ago. But what if they're lying? What if as soon as they are allowed to walk during the day, they take humans and drink them until they die? Especially if they get someone I know, like Eva. I would never forgive myself. It would be my fault.

"How do I know I can trust you?" I questioned, glaring at the vampire.

He didn't have an answer for a while, but then he glanced at Eleanor, who gave him a nod and then he smiled at me. "How about this. If you help us, we will help you find your mate."

"My what?"

"Oh, lovely. She doesn't know." Eleanor giggled, skipping towards me until she was a couple of inches close. "If I could, I would say forget the dog and I'll take you for myself, but I'm afraid the werewolf will kill me with no hesitation if I steal you from him." She pouted. "Actually, now that I think about it. Once the wolf finds out Idris took you here with us, he will haunt us down one by one. Idris mostly." She turned to the leader. Idris. "We're fucked. You stole the werewolf's mate. He's going to come for us."

"I can take him." Idris shrugs. "It's been centuries since I faced a wolf, but I'm sure it'll be easy."

"Can you stop talking about how you're going to fight Lysander?!" I frowned. "But you said you will help me find him?" Hope grew inside me. "Will you really?"

"Yes. As long as you promise to help us." Idris extends a hand. "Deal?"

I took it with no hesitation. "Deal."

How am I going to make something that can help them with their skin? I don't have a bloody idea. But right now, I need to get my werewolf back and I will have help from vampires.

Life just got a million times more exciting.
