《Accidental Nikkah》CHAPTER 29

Now we know that sirius is the brightest star in space, but the sun is special in its own way. Just because it is not the brightest star anymore, doesn't mean it's useless. As I said before, if the sun is gone for a whole day, we'll be living in darkness.
So just because one of your titles is taken from you, doesn't mean you are plain. We are all special in our own way.
Magnificent is an understatement to describe the party hall. Ruhee had never been to such a big and grand event. And somewhere, deep down, she felt out of place. Everyone in the room were dressed extravagantly. Men in their tuxedo's and women all shimmering and shiney. Ruhee was a wearing a simple gown, but she had no clue that she looked beautiful.
I shouldn't care what others think. I know I look good, that's enough. Even Aayan said I look beautiful.
She was surprised when Aayan had complemented her earlier. She didn't know how to reply him, she had lost her voice. It was the first time he had ever complemented her. She was happy.
Many people came to greet them when they came here, and to say she was not terrified by the paparazzi would be a lie. She was horrified, but thankfully Aayan helped her with the niqab and covered her.
They were currently seated at their assigned table along with two more couples, and listening to the man on the stage, who happens to be the fundraiser, thanking the people present in the hall for their donations. He also stated out how they had used the money they had collected, and thanked the volunteers.
Ruhee looked down at her hand, that Aayan was still holding, placed on his lap. They were holding hands ever since they had entered the hall, and surprisingly, Ruhee didn't mind. She looked at Aayan's face, which was concentrated on what the fundraiser was saying. To be honest, Ruhee didn't wanna take her eyes of him.
Sure, he wore coats and blazers everyday for work, but there was something different about him today.
He looks dashing.
Suddenly, the entire hall erupted in claps, so Ruhee, on reflex went to clap her hands as well, but her hand was getting slapped between Aayan's hands. When Aayan realized something odd, he looked at his hand, he was still holding Ruhee's hand. He looked at her, while she was already looking at him. He abruptly let go off her hand with a small 'sorry'. Ruhee nodded and looked at her hand.
Soon, the speech was over and it was finally time to eat. Aayan walked them over to a buffet. The buffet was filled with all kinds of foods. It was hard for Ruhee to choose what she wanted to eat. Aayan handed her a plate, "Come." he said, and Ruhee followed.

He took her to a far off table. Ruhee read the name plate.
Thai Cuisine.
Ruhee looked at Aayan as he served himself and Ruhee. Ruhee kept quite and went along with Aayan, as he served them. They went to sit on their table, after picking up chop sticks. After they sat down, Aayan pointed out the dishes to Ruhee, "It's gonna be a month since I've known you, so I am quite aware of your choice of foods. So, I thought you'd like Thai food. Have you ever had Thai food before?" he asks, to which Ruhee shakes her head. Aayan points his sticks at the noodles and says, "This is Pad Thai, it is a famous fried noodles dish in Thailand, it is maid from rice noodles and I'm sure you'll like it."
He points to another dish, "This is Gai Pad Med Ma Muang. Stir fried chicken with cashew nuts." he points to a different one, "This is called Yum Nua. A spicy beef Salad." he points again to a different dish, "This is Tod Mun Pla, Thai fish cakes." he points to the last dish on the plate and says, "This here, is Som Tum, spicy papaya salad." Ruhee looks at him, astonished.
He sure knows his food.
Ruhee had no idea how to comment on him, so all she did was pick up her chopsticks, and eat. She tasted little from all the five dishes, and looked at Aayan with wide eyes, she showed him two thumbs up with amazement on her face, and continued eating. Aayan just laughed softly at her and began eating.
After the meal was done, Aayan excused himself to go meet the fundraiser, as they were about to leave. Ruhee just stayed at the spot he left her. She was just looking around when she heard a familiar voice, "What is a beautiful lady doing here all alone?" she turned around to find Nicholas King, smiling at her. "Hello, Mr.King." Ruhee said smiling.
Ruhee was nice to everyone who was nice to her, even if they radiated a weird vibe. She couldn't deny that Nicholas King, didn't feel right to her, and also Aayan had told her to stay away from him. But what to do if he himself comes and speaks to her. Nicholas smiled at her, "Has your partner abandoned you?" he asks.
"Oh No. Actually, he has gone to speak to the fundraiser." she said, pointing to where Aayan was standing, speaking to a group of people. "I see. So, do you have a boyfriend?" he asks wiggling his eyebrows. Ruhee just laughed looking at him.
Well, not a boyfriend, but I have a husband, and he doesn't like you.
"No." Ruhee replied. "Any intentions of making one?" he asks again. "I don't think so." someone replied for her. When she looked towards the voice, Aayan was standing right next to them. Ruhee blinked at him.

Wasn't he talking to the fundraiser just a few seconds ago?
"I see." came Nicholas's voice, and Ruhee turned to him and smiled. "Now, if you'll excuse us, we are going home." saying this, Aayan grabs Ruhee's hand and drags her towards the exit. Ruhee follows quietly. "The paparazzi will be present, so wear your niqab now if you want." Aayan says, stopping and letting go of Ruhee's hand. She removes the niqab from her purse and wears it. Aayan grabs her hand again, and they walk out as they walked in.
Aayan and Ruhee were now seated comfortably in the car and were on their way home. Ruhee was looking out the window while Aayan was busy on his mobile. "Stop!" Ruhee yelled suddenly. The car came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the empty road. Aayan looked at Ruhee alarmed, to find her smiling out the window.
Ruhee turns to Aayan with a happy face and says, "Can we get ice cream?" "What?" Aayan asks, surprised. Ruhee looks out the window and points to an ice-cream cart. Aayan looks at her and says, "No. And Ruhee, it's dangerous to stop the car in the middle of a road." "Oh c'mon Aayan. The road is almost empty. Please, let's get ice cream." she requests. "But there was ice-cream at the party, didn't you have it?" he asks. "I ate cake. Now, I want ice-cream. Please." she asks, again. "Too much sweet is not good for you, Ruhee." Aayan points out sternly. "I know, and I have been avoiding sweets for the past two weeks. So, please, just once uh, today, please. The vendor might leave." Ruhee requests. Aayan signs heavily and agrees. "Yaay!!" and Ruhee is out of the car.
Aayan follows, to go and stand next to her. Even though the road was empty, Ruhee felt Aayan grabbing her hand and then crossing the road to go to the vendor. As they reach the vendor he looks up and hands them the choice card. Ruhee goes for a chocolate disc cone ice cream while Aayan chooses a classic choco bar.
Ruhee orders another mango cone Ice cream, "One ice-cream is enough for you, Ruhee." Aayan says, looking at her sternly. Ruhee grabs the mango cone and turns to Aayan, "This is not for me." and crosses the road to go to the car. She knocks on the drivers window. The driver brings down his window and Ruhee extends to him the cone. He looks at it, doubting whether to accept or not, but Ruhee urges him with a warm smile, and he accepts it. And Ruhee runs back to Aayan.
Ruhee sees Aayan smiling at her, with proud - ness in his eyes and Ruhee just blushes under his gaze. They finish their ice-cream in a comfortable silence and head back home. On reaching home, Ruhee ran towards Sahma's room and opened it slowly, to see Sahma fast a sleep. She smiles at her and closes the door. She goes to the kitchen and sees that Sahma has eaten her dinner well.
"I have some work, so I'll be in my study. You can change and go to sleep first." Aayan says from behind her. She turns around and nods at him. They go upstairs and walk into different rooms, Ruhee to their room and Aayan into his study. Ruhee quickly gets changed, removes her makeup and goes to sit on the couch and signs. She was extremely tired.
And all I did was sit and eat.
She lays down and closes her eyes and sleep immediately comes to her.
Next morning, Ruhee was on her way to her class. Since Ruhee had shifted to Aayan's home, she had been coming to college at last moments. As she entered her class, she noticed that all three of her friends were engrossed on something in Jian's mobile. She walks to them and says, "Hey, girls!" they all look up to her alarmed. She looks at them confused.
Aina rushes out and stands before Ruhee, she holds her shoulders and says, "You are all over the internet." It was visible that Aina wanted to yell at her shocked, but she just gave out a surprised whisper. Ruhee frowns at her and whispers back, "What do you mean?" "She means that you are famous." this time, Jian replies from her seat with a whisper. "Still not clear." Ruhee whispers back looking at Jian. Aina pushes Ruhee to go and sit down next to Afza, and she shows her Jian's mobile. Ruhee looks at Afza confused. "Just look at it." Afza whispers to her. Ruhee looks at the mobile screen and is shocked to say the least.
She snatches the mobile from Afza's hand and re - reads it. She scrolls down and is shook by everything.
There were several articles with different headlines but they all meant the same. There were pictures of them going into the venue. Some of Aayan covering Ruhee from the camera. Some still cuts while some six second clips, taken from all angles possible. If not for the niqab, Ruhee's face would have been all over the net.
Ruhee was speechless. She had no idea how to react to this. She looked at her friends, who were carefully analyzing her facial movements. Ruhee looked back at the mobile screen. Only one thought was running around her head.
If the media figures out who that girl is, my simple college life will become tragedy.
