《Accidental Nikkah》CHAPTER 28

We have no idea how long or big the space is. The scientists and astronomers themselves are yet to find out how magnificent the space is. And among this, it is obvious that the sun is the brightest star in space, wrong. Shocking, right? Knowing that the sun isn't the brightest star in the sky, I know. The brightest star in the sky is, Sirius. It is twenty five times more luminous than the sun, and also, twice as big as the sun.
We know the sun exists, that's why we only look at it. But only when you try to learn something new, will you realise that what you saw or know, is not the limit. Dig deep, get to know something new about something or someone everyday, it will help you grow.
Two weeks went by faster than Aayan expected. It was already Sunday, and he was getting ready for the party. He decided to get changed in the guest room downstairs, to give Ruhee her space to get ready. He was adjusting his tie while looking at the floor length mirror. He turned around to examine himself. He was dressed in a Navy blue coat and pant, with a white shirt and red tie, along with brown shoes.
He exits the room and moves to the living room, to find Sahma sitting on the sofa, watching TV. She looks up at her son and smiles brightly, "Oh My God. This is so good and perfect." she says, getting up to go stand before him. "You both are gonna look so lovely." she adds. Aayan knew his mother always gushes about him before he leaves for a party, but the mention of Ruhee, was kinda new to him.
The closing of the door is heard, and both, mother and son, look up towards the staircase. Aayan's eyes almost came out as he stared at Ruhee, walking down the stairs. He couldn't take his eyes off her as she came to stand down the stairs, bringing in view of her outfit.
She wore a full sleeved Navy Blue floral satin prom gown. The upper half was plain satin which hugged her body perfectly, not showing off her figure. The other half, went flowing down from her waist. The floral pattern started from vines, going down from her mid thighs, to blooming into colorful flowers from her mid calves. The dress was just few inches above the floor, showing her toes, enough to tell she was wearing black strappy stelletos. She wore a black shimmering hijab with a pearl necklace, placed elegantly from the mid top of her head to fall back. She had done subtle makeup. Little bit of foundation, mascara for the eyes, a light blush on the cheeks, and a nude red lipstick. Not too much, not too little. She was carrying a black sling bag with a golden chain sling. Overall, she looked gorgeous.

Wow.
Aayan couldn't take his eyes off her. He didn't even notice how his mother had dragged him to stand next to Ruhee. He still kept looking at her, as he stood next to her. "Oh My, you both look so good together." Sahma said, which bought Aayan out of his trance, and he looked at his mother, who was so happy to see them twinning. If you looked closer, you could say she had tears at the corner of her eyes. She quickly grabbed her mobile from the sofa and took pictures of them. They just stood their, stealing glances at each other.
"Enough Ammi. It's time for us to leave." Aayan said, looking at his wrist watch. They bid goodbye to Sahma and went to get seated in their car. The driver started the car and drove to their venue. Ruhee was looking out the window, while Aayan would steal glances at her, pretending to be busy on his mobile.
When Aayan had received the invite, Zubair was with him, and that sneaky human had bought up how Aayan, could take Ruhee as his plus one. Aayan had thought about it and wantedly told about the event early at the dining table. He wanted to see if Ruhee would wanna go or not. But when she agreed after Sahma asked, he was glad.
"You look beautiful." he said, looking at his mobile. Ruhee turned to look at him, for a moment too long and replied shyly, "Thanks." he just nodded his head, and the rest of the ride went on silent. As they approached the venue, a lot of camera flashes and paparazzi's were crowding around. Ruhee tensed and Aayan could sense her tense up beside him.
He placed his hand on top of hers, which was placed on her lap, clutching her dress. She looked at him worried, "Don't worry. I am right beside you." he said, calmly. He removed a black cloth from his pocket and handed it to Ruhee. She stared at it for awhile and then took it. She opened the cloth to find it to be a niqab, that most Muslim women wear to cover their faces."I had prepared it just in case you felt uncomfortable around the paparazzi." Aayan said, looking out the window.
Ruhee looked at him gratefully and wore it. The niqab, covered all of her face, except her eyes. The car came to a halt, "Stay here." saying this, Aayan got out of the car elegantly. He went to Ruhee's door and opened it. She stepped out elegantly but was blinded by the camera flashes and lights for a moment. Aayan came to stand before her, covering her from the lights. She looked up at him and while he looked down at her.

Aayan moved aside, held her hand and pulled her along with him, walking towards the venue entrance. All the while Aayan kept his body in a protective position around Ruhee, while she just kept her head down and walked. They could hear all sorts of questions thrown at them from the paparazzi's. "Mr. Ibrahim, who have you bought along with you today?", "Is she your girlfriend?", "Is she Farheen Begum?", "Are you really collaborating with Kings International?", "Are you and Mahir Ibrahim brothers?" But they just ignored them and walked in.
After they entered the venue, they walked in a bit more and stopped. He turned around to look at Ruhee, who was still facing the ground. "You can look up now." He said, cautiously. Ruhee looked up and removed her niqab, not before looking around for snooping paparazzi. She looked at Aayan and signed, "My respect for you has increased, you walk through all that whenever you attend a public gathering?" Ruhee said, looking at him with astonishment. Aayan just laughed softly at her remark, held her hand and pulled her towards the double doors ahead.
The doors opened and they entered. The hall was so big and magnificent, with people scattered around like beads. Aayan and Ruhee ascended down the stairs, hand in hand. As they got off the last step and walked in a few steps, people started gathering around them, greeting them. Aayan would shake hands and talk to them, introduce them to Ruhee and ahe would politely greet them back.
This was the process till the reached the centre of the hall. People would come and greet them, chit chat and excuse themselves. Aayan looked at Ruhee, who was still admiring the hall, but all he wanted to do was admire her. As absurd as the thought was, Aayan couldn't deny it.
She really looks so beautiful today.
Aayan couldn't help but notice how some men would give Ruhee second glances. He really wanted to smash their faces, but has to refrain himself, as to not cause any commotion. "Welcome, Welcome." came an overly cheerful voice and, Aayan wanted to leave the place immediately. He looked up to find Nicholas King, standing before them with a big smile.
"Hello Nicholas." Aayan said blankly. "Now, Now, is that the way to greet an old friend?" Nicholas said and pulled Aayan in for a hug, but Aayan didn't let go of Ruhee's hand. They pulled apart and Aayan stared annoyed at a smiley Nicholas, "Now, Aren't you going to introduce me to your partner?" Nicholas asked, Looking at Ruhee. Aayan gritted his teeth.
So that's why he is being so cheerful.
"Ruhee, this is Nicholas King, Vice president of King's International, we have recently joined hands in a collaboration. Nicholas, this is Ruhee Shariff." Aayan introduces them, blankly. "Oh, don't miss out on the fact that we are college buddies..." Nicholas adds cheerfully and looks at Ruhee, taking her free hand in his, "Its a pleasure to meet such a beautiful maiden." he says, staring at her intensely, bringing her hand closer to his lips, but Ruhee pulls back her hand immediately. Nicholas looks at her startled, while Aayan just stares at her, "I am sorry, but I don't like someone holding my hand, especially to peck on it, even if it's a gentle gesture." Ruhee says, politely. "Still, it was nice to meet you aswell, Mr. King."
Nicholas stared at her with astonishment, no one had ever denied his charms, even if she were Muslim. He had always a way, to get around girls, but Ruhee had him stunned by her rejection, which didn't seem like a rejection at all. Aayan stared at her proud, internally, he was jumping with joy at her rejection.
Haah! Nicholas can't have his way with all women, especially not mine.
Aayan stiffened. He just referred to Ruhee as his woman. He bought himself back to the present when he heard Nicholas's soft laugh. He looked at him to find him staring at Ruhee, with amusement. "I'm sorry, if I have offended you. It was not my intention." he said, smiling at her. He looked at Aayan and asked, "Is she your fiance? Or Is your mother trying to set you up with her? An Alliance maybe?
She is already my wife.
Ruhee and Aayan looked at each other before Ruhee laughed nervously and replied," No. Not at all. Just someone I know." Aayan nodded."Then, you won't have any problem if I steal her from you. Right, Aayan?" Nicholas asked, which was meant to be a joke, but Aayan didn't feel like it.
Then you won't have any problem if I steal your breath from you.
From afar, someone had called out to Nicholas, so he excused himself and left the couple alone. "I don't want you to talk to that guy, he is bad news." Aayan said looking at her. "Don't worry, I am not planning on leaving your side. I would get lost in this huge place easily." Ruhee replied, looking around. Aayan just smiled at her and went to sit in on their table.
I don't want you to leave my side, ever.

Petrichor: Act One
Cody is adrift. Emily is alone. Sara is spiraling into darkness. Andrew is out of control. Chris is losing his mind. Grace makes the mistake of being friends with all of them. The friendship these six share will forever shape who they are. In the town of Darkwood, Washington they are forced into the harsh reality of the world catching up to them. When their involvement in their friend's suicide catches up to them, how will they juggle their guilt, issues, and crumbling friendships that fall before them? This is a redux of Petrichor. I was unsatisfied with how the story went. I rushed things and left things to happen off-screen a lot. So I'm rewriting it, this time dividing the acts into their separate books to allow the characters to properly develop. The story will mostly stay the same but I'll fix all the plot holes I found and change some character motivations here or there.
