《Mi Reina》Chapter Fifty Five - Recovery

I don't how it has been since I haven't been able to move. I can hear everything going on around me: every word, every sniffle, every prayer, and every cry.
I've heard pretty much every single person who mean the world to me, especially Xia and Nico. He always asks Xia when I would wake and when he would be able to go to the beach with me and her answer would always be, 'Soon, Nico. Soon.'
I tried so hard to move my body and try to speak but all in vain, all I could do was breathe. But once I heard Xia admit her love for me, my brain went haywire. I felt an exhilarating joy through me, content that Xia loved me back.
Yes, I love her too and there's no doubt that I do. She's perfect in every single way.
Not a few minutes later, she laughed. I wondered why she had done so all of a sudden but I wasn't complaining. I missed her smile, her laugh, her eyes, her voice, her touch, her mind, her heart, her soul. I missed her so much.
I was determined to talk, to be able to tell her how much I missed her and so I did.
"And I missed that laugh." I said trying to open my eyes.
When I did, I was greeted by a very bright light that almost blinded me but once my eyes got used to them, I could see much clearly after that.
There she stood, right in front me with a sleeping Nico in her arms. She looked a little different than she usually did; her eyes were a little puffy and her face was slightly red but she she still looked beautiful, especially with the outfit that she was wearing that showcased her slender legs.

"Rico..." She breathed out. "You're...you're..."
Without wasting another minute, she carefully placed Nico on the chair behind her but even though she was careful, he woke up. After looking around a little, the little guy laid his eyes on me, slowly realizing that I was awake.
He jumped off of the chair and ran to me, trying to climb up on the bed. When Xia saw him struggle, she helped him and not a second later, I felt his arms wrap around me as he left kisses on my face, telling me how much he missed my hugs.
I enveloped him into a hug and kissed him back, having missed my son. Xia smiled at us before leaving the room and I'm guessing that she was going to call the doctor. She came back, followed by a doctor and a nurse.
After they ran a few tests, they said that I would have to be kept under observation for another twenty four hours and only then could I be discharged.
"What happened to the-" I wanted to say motherfucker but I decided not to, and continued to say, "Adrian?"
"Well," Antonio paused before continuing, a smile spread across his face, "we had kept in one of the cells at the warehouse and after a few hours of being in solitude, he decided to end his life with a fentanyl overdose."
Every single person in the room looked shocked by the news, except for Callum because he was probably the person who found out in the first place. A while ago, everyone I knew and loved came over to the hospital.
Xia sat on the couch with a sleeping Nico on her chest, Dad sat next to her while he occasionally played with grandson's hair, and next to him, sat Mom.

Since there weren't too many chairs in here, Antonio stood before me, near my bed while Callum sat on the chair. I really wanted her to be here because if she was, this family would be complete. A small voice repeated itself in my head, reminding me to tell Xia about her. And I would. Soon.
A small gasp escaped Xia's mouth as he finished his sentence. I looked over to her and saw her eyes slightly glossy but her face remained expressionless.
Although Adrian was the person who had been our lives hell for the last few months, it didn't change the fact that at some point of Xia's life, he was everything to her. And I didn't blame her for being a little sad about it.
She was mourning for the friend that she had in Adrian rather than the psychopath. Not one bit, had I expected him to be the person who had been working with Lorenzo but then again, life is full of surprises.
"Okay, you all heard the doctor." Mom clapped her hands so that everyone drew their attention to her. "This pallaso needs some rest so we'll be going now."
"Hey! I'm not a cl-" I tried defending myself but my annoying sibling stopped me.
"Save your breath, hermano . We all know it's true." Toni smirked, while everyone in the room stood up, ready to leave the room. Callum walked over to Xia and carried Nico into his arms. Just as he was leaving, he whispered something in her ear which caused her entire face to become a crimson red.
Looking at her expression, Callum laughed and left the room, followed by everyone else. Just as Xia made eye contact with me, she looked away. I could tell that she was a little downcast but she tried hiding it.
Understanding her unspoken words, I opened my arms wide and scooted to one side of the bed in a way of telling her to come to me. My actions brought a slight smile to her face as she walked over to the bed and climbed up, cuddling into the blanket that now covered us.
I felt a fluttery feeling in my stomach as Xia rested her head on my arm which laid on the bed. She kept her hand on my chest, our bodies almost becoming one like she completed me. I placed a chaste kiss on her forehead and pulled her body closer to mine.
We laid down in silence, content with each other in our arms and soon, I fell into a blissful sleep.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
