《Mi Reina》Chapter Fifty Six - Surreal

"The more time I spend with you, the more I want to hold you tighter in my arms." A deep but familiar voice whispered from behind me as the hold that Rico had on my waist, tightened.
His words and his touch brought a shiver down my spine, making me look at Nico to check whether he had been looking at us. But instead, he was fascinated by the movie playing on the TV in front of him.
It had been the next day, well, night actually. Rico got discharged from the hospital but he still had to rest which was something that I would definitely make sure of. Earlier today, Rico's parents, Antonio, Callum and even Devon came over. We spoke for hours and hours together, playing cards and what not.
I thought about my family and how we would have family game night every weekend. We used to order pizza and play with Jenga blocks until midnight. But it never stopped there. After that, Dad would make popcorn and just to scare me, Damon would play horror movies like IT.
Well, that would explain my fear of clowns even as an adult.
Initially, I thought that it would be weird for Devon and I to speak to each other because awe once dated but to my surprise, it wasn't. He put me through a lot in the past by faking his death three years back but holding on to that anger would only hurt me, not him; it's something that I don't want right now, not ever.
Since everything in my life was back on track and that there weren't people trying to hurt me now, I decided to open up the bakery again. I miss baking cookies all day, the sweet aroma of cookie dough that filled the air as I baked. I sighed, smiling at the thought.

Now, Rico, Nic and I were laying down on the couch in the living room while watching 'The Emoji Movie'. We made buttery popcorn, pretzels, chocolate-dipped churros, cheese as well as Chicken BBQ pizza and the signature cookies that Nico loves.
"You make me feel like the luckiest woman in the world." I replied, now looking at him.
He gave me a peck on the corner of my lips and continued, "That is exactly what I was aiming for. Wait, I'll be back."
I nodded my head and lifted myself off of his chest so that he could get up. While Nico was still watching the movie playing, all cuddled up in the blanket, I slid my hand behind him and slightly laid my head on my shoulder.
He looked away from the screen and to me, placing a kiss on my forehead which took me by surprise. I lifted my head up, looking at Nico and all he did was give me a toothy smile. I hugged him closer to me and as I did, I felt yet another peck on my temple.
"Aww, my jellybean..." I let out as I felt happiness tremble inside me. I looked at him feeling like the luckiest woman in the world. Both of the Ramirezes in this made me feel this way. Like I was on top of the world with how much love I was getting.
Nico smiled at me, unaware of the feeling that he gave me by his small gesture. "I love you, Nico." He kissed my cheek again and wrapped his arms around my neck, pulling me closer to him.
"I love you too, Momma." He said, playing with the bunch of hair that had manged to escape from my messy bun. Since it had a while since Rico went, I thought about going to check up on him but just then, he entered the room.

"Alright, I'm here." Rico announced but his tone changed as soon as he saw Nico and I cuddling with each other. "Hey! Why am I always left out? What about my hugs and kisses?"
I sighed at the man-child and got up from the couch, walking over to Rico. Placing a kiss on his cheek, I wrapped my arms around him, pulling him into a hug. He did the same and just before his hands could reach further than the small of my back, I swatted his hands away.
It was not because I wasn't comfortable, it was because Nico was in the room so we had to keep our actions...child-friendly.
"And me?" Nico asked. I chuckled at their very similar behavior, while Rico picked his son up after he ran all the way to where we were standing.
"This is for you." He said, handing me a letter-sized brown colored envelope.
"What is it?" I eyed the package, wondering what he could have been giving me.
"Just open it, babe." He smiled, his dimples making an appearance on either side of his face, exactly how Nico's were.
"Alright, then." I tore open the envelope and peeked in only to see a few papers in there. Fishing out the papers, I looked the heading of the document that read, 'Report of Adoption' which had already been filled and signed by Rico.
I looked through the next paper that read 'CERTIFICATE OF DECREE OF ADOPTION'.
I gasped. Audibly.
No. FREAKING. way. He did not just...
"Rico." I breathed out, my hands a little shaky now.
"Nico is officially your son now." He stated.
"I-" And the truth is, I couldn't speak at this point. I was so overwhelmed with happiness, surprise and disbelief all at the same time. Joy rushed through me and it was only then that I realized that I had never been happier in my life. Never in a million years did I think that Rico would ever do this for me.
Happy tears coursed down my cheeks as I wrapped both of my arms around them and spoke in a high-pitched tone because unable to contain my happiness, "I love both of you so much! I love you, Rico. Oh my God, I can't believe it!"
Wait, did I just? I did, didn't I? I just told Rico that I love him.
Slowly, I lifted my head and glanced at Rico, wondering if he had heard my slip-up. He had a grin plastered onto his face as he looked down at me.
Oh, he definitely heard me.
"And I love both of you too." He smiled. "I love you, Xia."
I felt like I was going to burst with the amount of happiness that I was given today. Everything around me felt so...surreal. Like, I had to have been dreaming but I knew for a fact that I wasn't and it was only because I had pinched myself a few seconds ago.

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

Hattoran Chronicle
There is a hostile sky above me. Man will never conquer space. He may live in it, but he will never conquer it. The sky above is void, and very black, and very hostile. -- Joseph Kittinger A pair of extragalactic supersoldiers are betrayed and stranded in the Milky Way at the end of the 29th century, potentially shaking the balance of power within the galaxy, but there's far more going on than anyone realizes. Allies are few in a galaxy eager to learn their secrets, and their ancient enemy continues to threaten the existence of the entire universe. The two Hattorans are forced to rely on each other and a few unlikely allies to solve a problem they for once can't simply fight their way out of.(Technically Star Trek fanfic but outside of existing storylines and I'm considering how easily the serial numbers could be filed off) This is all in progress and constructive feedback is strongly encouraged! I've got a lot in the air as I bring this all together.
