《Hush | on hold》Chapter 16: count of three

We moved to a different location after Giovanni left. Pulling up to the house, I was shocked by how big it was... compared to mine- I was practically homeless. We walked inside and he showed us all to different rooms. Although the new girl- Astarte... he made her stay with Melanie just in case.
The room I was in was pretty much empty for the most part, just like it was at Giovanni's house. Luckily for me, it was right across from Melanie's. There was a huge bed and a few decorations here and there but at the same time, it was way more fancier than anything in my house combined. I took off the jacket that he'd placed on me and dropped in on the floor before looking at myself in the mirror...
This blood's never going to wash out...
There was a small knock at the door and it opened slowly. I stood back but relaxed when a maid walked in. She was holding a stack of folded clothes. She smiled at me and closed the door as she walked in and placed them down on the bed.
She walked past me and into the bathroom and I heard her run the water. She peeked her head out from the bathroom and called me, "Miss Rae, the water's ready." She said, ushering me over and I rushed over.
"T-thank you."
She stood there as if she was waiting for me to do something and I looked around, "Umm..."
"I've been told to help you." She explained. "Ah! It's really okay! I can do it myself..." My voice trailed off and I looked down, "That's kind of... embarrassing somewhat..."
She chuckled and nodded her head, "I understand. I'll be just outside the door if you need me then. Mr. Drago said that I should tell you to feel free to use whatever you need here."
I frowned, Mr. Drago... Who the fuck... "Who?"
She blinked for a few seconds as if she couldn't believe that I had no idea what she was talking about and she laughed. "Matteo." She said, before leaving out the bathroom.
Matteo's last name is Drago?
I sighed and shook the thoughts from my head before slipping down into the tub. I won't scream this time... Just relax Jeyri. I could still hear the sound of the shots echoing in my head when I closed my eyes so I kept them open. I didn't stay in there for too long, I got out after washing up a few times. As I turned the water off, I heard a small knock on the door and it opened slightly.

"Your clothes." The maid handed them to me through the door and honestly, I was just happy there was a pair of underwear there for me. And Thank God they fit me as well. I came out after I finished getting dressed and she smiled, "I hope you don't mind, I took your other clothes to be cleaned."
"Oh, thank you so much."
She nodded, "Miss Estelle, is in the other room opposite here if you'd like to go to her." She probably caught on when I didn't say anything and chuckled, "Your friend... Melanie."
"Ohh... ok. Thank you." How do they expect me to know their last names? I went across to her room and knocked on the door before walking in slowly and I heard giggling as I walked in.
"Jeyri! There you are! We were waiting for you, come in. Come in." Melanie ushered me over. She had on nothing but a long white shirt and a pair of underwear but it didn't seem to bother her a bit. I mean we are all women so it's fine.
"Jeyri...?"
My face shot up as I heard a familiar voice and I looked toward the direction it came from. "Hayley..." My eyes widened in realization, "Hayley!"
"Why... How are you here?"
"Me? Why are you here?" I asked, my mouth dropping open. I looked between her and Melanie and Melanie raised her hands and shook her head. "Hey, I don't know either."
I looked at Astarte and she looked away, "Well don't look at me, I just met her just now." She muttered.
I pulled Hayley into a tight hug and let out a relieved sigh, "I was worried about you, so worried. I'm glad you're okay." I looked at her face and turned around and looked her up and down, "You're not hurt right?" I paused when I noticed a bandage sticking out from under her sleeve and my eyes widened, "What happened??"
"Jeyriii! I can't tell you if you keep asking me questions!" She sighed and sat down on the floor with the rest of the girls and I sat next to her, "So? Tell me?"

"Well...I'm probably just as confused as you are- or even more to be honest. I wanted to come and surprise you with some food... You know, I like to cook and stuff... And you'd just lost your job and you were probably stressed out and didn't have time to make your own..."
"Aw, thank you Hayley." I said, placing my hand over my heart and she nodded, "Don't mention it. But, when I got to your house there was this guy standing in front of your door, just standing there and he looked real scary honestly but I thought he was harassing you or something so I walked up to him ready to give him a piece of my mind and suddenly there was just gunshots flying everywhere and he ended up saving me-"
That must have been Sebastian.
"Hey! I thought I was about to be kidnapped! And he brought me here... I saw Mel so I was slightly less worried but I had no idea where you were, I was scared you were dead or something."
I let out a relieved sigh and pulled her into another hug, "Thank God you're okay. I'm sorry for dragging you into all of this-"
"It's not your fault." Melanie said speaking up. She stood up and grabbed a pair of pants from off the bed and sighed. My eyes widened as I caught sight of what looked like a dragon tattooed on her hip as she pulled up her pants but I averted my eyes.
"Looks like we all got caught in this shit. What about you?" She asked, turning to Astarte. "Me? Well... Shit, looks like I'm the only one who didn't get kidnapped- that's a joke, but I do seem to be the odd one out."
"You came with that Lucifer guy, huh?" Melanie asked, "Are you guys like... you know?"
Astarte smirked and leaned back on her arms, "What do you think?"
Well, that's one way to answer that.
"Hey, the three of you have got yourself some fine-ass men as well. Like woah-"
"Oh no, Giovanni is not-" She cut me off and raised her eyebrows, "That dude was all over you earlier- there's no way there isn't anything there- Melanie, don't you even try to deny it. And you... Hayley's your name right? You've been blushing since you came here. I mean I'm not judging, you get it, girl."
"I-"
"Hayley...?" I looked at her and she shook her head, "No! It's really not like that. And don't Hayley me... did I just hear her say that Giovanni was all over you?"
"It's not like that!" I said, repeating her words and we all started laughing.
I wouldn't say he was all over me, that was a misunderstanding on her part- he was just hugging me... I didn't think any much about it when it happened but... I'm just realizing it now that I no longer feel as scared as I was of him.
Quite the opposite in fact, despite everything... It feels safer.
And maybe it's because things just got chaotic suddenly and he's managed to protect me somehow somewhat...
The four of us girls spent our time just talking to each other, about ourselves... I learned a lot more about Melanie and Astarte as well, compared to theirs, my life has been boring up until now but weirdly enough, in that moment I found myself feeling kind of glad...
Things might not be perfect or the way I planned it at all but I've met some interesting people out of it.
Astarte swung her arm around my neck and pulled us all closer to her before opening up her phone camera, "That's it, you bitches are pretty cool." She said grinning, "A photo, to commemorate new friendships, on the count of three, everyone say money."
"Isn't it supposed to be 'everyone say cheese?'" Hayley asked, frowning.
"Cheese does not make me smile Hayley, money does." She explained, rubbing her fingers together and we all burst out laughing again. "Alright...

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. Any hope for a quick end to Napoleon's rampage across Europe ended when the Great Gates opened in 1800. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

Not your average Bird
Rago didn't have what you would call a good life... Or lives, in his case. For you see, Rago is one of an infinitesimally small number of people that remembers his previous lives. In his first life, he was a young spartan warrior that was killed for being too weak. In his second life, he was a young squire in the courts of Camelot that was tragically killed when his master lost control of his horse, and it kicked him in the head. In his third life, he was a child soldier in Africa that managed to escort a group of children to safety before he was shot in the head by their now ex-captors. And in his fourth life, he spent his entire life in a hospital bed being treated for a currently incurable auto-immune disease. ... But, that's when things changed. He was suddenly brought before an all-powerful being and given yet another go at life... Let's hope things are different this time.
