"We remember their love when they can no longer remember."

"Hello? Helen? Why did you call me up this early?" I ask, tapping on the notepad with my pen. The office was dimly lit and there weren't that many people. Except for the ones who came early of course.

"Miss, I found something about Ren Mattings." She reports to me, her voice turning into a whisper at the end of the sentence. She must've been very tired. Sounds of the keyboard typing can be heard across the line.

"Hey, it's fine. That can wait. For now, get some rest." I tell her softly. I hear her sigh. "It's fine really. I know how important this guy is to you. Besides, I have coffee to keep me awake." She insists. As if to say yes, her cat purrs.

I decided to keep quiet and let her continue. After all, I don't want her effort to get wasted. Especially if she chose this over her sleep and her health.

God knows how much she loves sleeping. I mean she is like a literal sleepyhead.

"Okay, so I found out your love—" I dropped my phone. Wait did I hear correctly? She giggles lightly at my reaction. I take in a deep breath as I restrained myself not to freak out so loud.

"Yes? What about him?" I ask in a nonchalant tone, coughing slightly at the end of the sentence. She sighs out loud.

"It's not good." She mutters, yawning. You can hear the sound of paper crinkling as she shifts through each and every one. She takes in deep breathes and the sounds stop.

"He had Amnesia." She finally blurts out. I drop my phone for the second time. That must be why he couldn't recognize me. It all makes sense now. He forgot......

"But it was not just any Amnesia, certain memories were selected. He was involved in a car crash at London while walking back to his dorm. A drunk driver was not paying attention to where he was driving so he didn't notice Ren." She continues, flipping the page.

"He was hospitalized. The doctors had a hard time saving him. He was out cold and he lost too much blood. They had to use the defibrillator on the highest possible voltage, which of course was 1700 volts." I felt a shiver run down my spine as the grip on my phone tightens.

I could hardly breathe. Imagining Ren nearly lifeless and all bloody scares the heck out of me.

"He luckily survived. The doctors were about to declare him dead but they got his pulse back at the last minute. It was a good thing he was a fighter otherwise...." She stops. There was a long pause. "He'd be long dead."

I exhale heavily, rubbing my temples. It was all just going too fast. "But that's not all the information I've got." She continues, clicking on her keyboard. There's more?

She clears her throat. "He was assigned to an arranged marriage. Since he has lost certain memories, which is probably the memories you shared with him, he agreed. He thought that maybe living to his parents expectations would make them proud."
