《I Need You》Chapter Twelve

Walking further into what was just the living room, I was already comparing it what it was back at my old "pack" I guess. I didn't know that anything could get this nice, being told that what I used to see was the nicest I'll ever get. Running my fingers over the couch, it was a strong leather type of material and by just looking at it, it seemed very comfortable. Comfortable enough for me to sleep on and I don't mind that in the slightest.
In the middle of all the furniture, there was a black carpet. The flatscreen TV being the obvious main part of the room, considering the amount of room it takes up. There was countless game consoles in the shelves near the TV along with the games, showing me that our big alpha over here loves them. The thought made me chuckle a little bit. I've always wanted to play a game before.
Along with the games there were many different movies, some that I've always wanted to see since I've heard about them. Hopefully Adrian will let me have enough time to watch some.
"Do you like it?" Adrian asked me for the second time today. Turning back to him, he was leaning against the wall near the stairs with his arms folded just watching me. His arm muscles bulging from under his T-shirt.
I nodded my response whenever my injured wrist started to throb. It's been aching for a while but now it's starting to hurt more. Holding it with my other hand, wincing at the contact, Adrian walked over to me. "We'll head over to the pack doctor right now okay?" I should've told him it's been aching but the beauty of everything and watching everyone kept my mind off of it. "We can do it later, I want to see the rest of the house." Thinking about it more, I didn't want to rush him or over load him with a lot of stuff. He still had to call the meeting and on top of that worry about what people would think about me. We could go to the doctor later.
"I'll give you a tour around the house later but now, we are going to check out your wrist and your health. I want to see how you're doing, after being with.. them."
My health. My body. The doctor would see everything. Explain everything.
I don't know if I'm ready for that.
"Come on, it won't be that far of a walk only like two or three minutes," he reassured. Adrian grabbing my hand again, led me out through the front door of the house this. There were a few more houses around Adrian's that looked like the same ones that I saw when we entered into his pack, so cozy and warm. Every one looked inviting just like the rest. Luckily, there wasn't anyone out at the time which saved the questions of where has Adrian been this whole time, and possibly who I was.
We slowed to a semi small building with a dark red door. The sign said "clinic". "The main hospital is in the city. This is more of the local part that people in this area go too. And I go here personally too. She's very nice." I think Adrian read my mind about how nervous I was to meet someone new. Being not used to this, it made me really nervous about how they would look at me or want to do. But his words yet again reassured me. It's like he was magic or something.

It was getting harder to not get attached to him. Stupid feelings I don't know how to decipher.
Adrian opened the door for me and let me walk in first. There were your casual waiting room seats to our left and the desk to the right. Walking ahead of me, I followed Adrian to the desk.
"I need to see Doctor May." He said smoothly, breaking the secretary's attention on her computer. Her eyes widened with surprise , "Alpha I wasn't expecting to see you so soon. I knew you were here and-"
"Yes I understand," he interrupted , "But as you can see, I'm not alone and she needs medical help right away."
The secretary's eyes turned to me as if she was just noticing me. She looked me up and down, assessing my appearance. Dirty, worn out clothes. It's not surprising that she would look at me the way she did. "Um, of course sir. I'll notify the doctor right now. You can head to her office." She spoke very nervously.
We walked down a narrow hallway until we came to a grey painted door. The door opened as soon as Adrian reached for the handle. A young looking woman with long black hair stood in front of us, small framed glasses perched on her nose. She was beautiful, yet intimidating at the same time. She seemed very confident and seemed to know Adrian well, based off her mannerism. "Alpha Adrian! I cant believe your in front of my eyes!"
Doctor May hugged him with a lot of emotion. An unfamiliar spark of jealousy sparked through me with their contact. I didn't like the way she was hugging him, but this shouldn't matter to me. I was hear to get better, not silently brood over the fact that this beautiful woman was hugging the man that saved me.
And the man that's making you feel things you've never felt before.
I want to put that in the back of my mind.
The room consisted of your standard area for the patient to lay on and a computer for the lab work and everything else you'd expect for a medical room. IV's in the corner, heart monitors, waiting chairs beside the patients table, basically a small hospital room. Another door was at the far end of the room, which was probably her actual office.
"Doctor May, it's good to see you." They gave each other some distance from their hug, me standing behind Adrian. Not close though, not wanting to interrupt their moment.
"Where have you been? Wherever you were you must be hurt. Do I need to run some tests?" She started shuffling around further into her office, trying to make an effort for her alpha. Adrian turned around to face me, motioning with his hand for me to come closer to him. I stood behind him still, not really wanting to be the center of attention and really still didn't feel like interacting with this woman. I don't know her, and haven't came in contact with a nice woman in years. Besides, she still hasn't even noticed me yet. "Alpha?" She said, pushing her glasses further up her nose, wondering why he hasn't come into the room yet.
Still facing me, he gently pushed on my lower back to stand next to hi but as soon as I was, I went right back to standing behind him again. I didn't like this. The wrinkles on his shirt were much more interesting, but it was getting harder to ignore the throbbing of pain on my wrist. Looking up, Doctor May has a confused and startled expression upon just noticing that the alpha has brought someone with him. I quickly looked down, not wanting to stare at her anymore.

"Sweetheart it's okay." He soothed.
"Who's this?"
She stepped a little closer and like a child, I grabbed onto Adrian's arm and stood further behind him. This was so sad. I'm so sad. My anxiety about what to do or say was taking over and now I'm thinking about what she'll do or say. But Adrian said he was going to take care of my wrist and that's what he was trying to do. I was only making it more difficult.
With a sigh, Adrian took the hand that was death gripping his arm and brought it in front of him, making my whole body follow, which is now standing fully in front of him. My back presses against his chest, his hands gently resting on my arms holding me in place. "This is Kayla. I found h- or really rescued her on my little 'vacation.'"
Keeping my head low, I noticed her hand come into view. I slowly looked up at her. "Nice to meet you Kayla." She said with a smile , " I'm Doctor May." I kept staring at her hand, wondering if I should shake it or not. I know it's friendly but I don't know her and I'm pretty sure your only supposed to do that with people you know or are friends with.
"Yeah, she's not really a people person," Adrian started to explain. Hearing him say it only made me feel worse, "I'll explain what happened in a minute but she really needs to get her wrist checked out and the rest of her well everything I guess. Her situation was.. really bad." The end tons of his voice was laced with anger and his hold on me was starting to get a bit tighter. Calm down, please.
Looking down at my wrist, her face instantly looked worried. She hurriedly reaches out for my hand but I flinched back, not wanting her to hurt it any more than it already was. I looked at her skeptically.
She was sympathetic I could tell. Giving me pity. It was the look Adrian has given me a few times. A look I haven't become used to yet. "I can understand why you wouldn't trust me just yet, only knowing me for a few minutes, but that looks pretty bad and I want to help it get better." Adrian wants that too.
She slowly took my hands in hers and I looked behind me at Adrian, silently telling him I still wasn't that much comfortable with her leading me. His presence was comfortable to me now compared to this new setting I'd have to get used too. Giving me a soft smile he spoke, "She just wants to help you love. We don't want your wrist to hurt anymore. We have to make sure your healthy." His voice was so soothing.
I finally let her lead me to the patients table. She slid a stool over to the base of the table, making it easier for me to get on it. "You can lay down here and we'll X-ray that in just a minute. I need to check your vitals and other parts of your body that would be considered a normal check up." Many cords and wires were sitting towards the side of the makeshift bed and she began to hook them up to me. Also explaining what everything was supposed to do like the heart monitor and blood pressure. "Your heart rate seems pretty normal and your breathing is fine, so that's good news!"
Smiling, she set the cords down and closed her laptop I haven't really paid attention to until just now, Doctor May sauntered off further into the room and started to open cabinets filled with different medical things. Pulling out a square shaped object and the rest of the X-ray equipment, she asked Adrian to turn out the lights. Instantly, I was on high alert. Nothing good ever came from the dark and it always scared me. Doctor May and Adrian caught on to my discomfort, the heart monitor skyrocketing with beeps.
"Sweetheart it's okay, I'm right here," Adrian rushed over to me and grabbed my other hand , his touch giving me the sense of comfort I was looking for. If he keeps doing things like this, I'll never want to leave his side.
"Oh honey. What has happened to you?" It was a quiet whisper but I did hear it. Heard it without even have shifted yet. It was that obvious she could tell more things have happened to me than just my wrist. And soon, she'll figure out even more if she's going to test if I'm "healthy."
It was silent for a few more seconds. They're stares burning into me. I hated being stared at because it made me feel so judged and I preferred the attention not to be on me. "Shall we continue?" She asked.
No one said anything.
Hesitantly, she grabbed my injured wrist and laid it on a pure black surface. She rolled over a screen to hook up to the device that would be taking the X- ray. There was a special light she was using and went back and forth shifting my wrist in different positions to get better pictures. Adrian stood up from sitting next to my now relaxed frame and to Doctor Mays side, peering down at the developing pictures on the screen she rolled over earlier. Her eyebrows were furrowed and Adrian's whole face looked worried. He was looking back from me to the screen. Me to the screen, well really my wrist. Over and over again. They were both starting to scare me. I know it wasn't that bad.
Noticing my state of mind, Doctor May gave me a soft smile, " I'm surprised that you aren't in more pain Kayla. You're- you're a strong girl." She was looking at the screen in such astonishment and looked at me like she couldn't believe that I wasn't balling my eyes out.
"It doesn't hurt that much.." Was my faint reply. I mean, it wasn't the worst pain that I've endured.
"Love you have a whole bone that's snapped in half. How does that "not hurt that much?" Anger laces his tone. Adrian ran his fingers through his hair. His blue eyes becoming darker. Actions much like hours ago in the forest. I couldn't tell if he was angry at me or himself. He walked closer to me. "Sweetheart wha-."
He stopped. He stopped because I flinched from his hand. The hand I realize now was just going to brush my hair back from my face.. but I didn't know that until now.
"I'm sorry. I- I could make it hurt more if it's supposed to be that serious." I pleaded nervously. I'd much rather have myself do it than someone else. Especially him, but he said he wouldn't hurt me and I'm starting to regret saying that to him. Adrian has proved to be nothing but nice to me. Why would he hurt me if he just took me to the doctor to make sure everything was okay with me. I'm just making it worse and I'm sure the way I felt showed.
"Kayla.." He ran his hand down his face and looked towards the ceiling. I hated what I said too. I'm sorry.
Adrian turned his head towards Doctor May. "If you don't mind, I'm going to step out.. for a minute." she silently nodded. I looked up at him, not really wanting him to go and leave me with this stranger, but he never met my gaze. I knew he couldn't look at me right now. The door quietly shut behind him leaving the room more quieter than ever. I have never felt so bad and this nagging feeling just jabbing inside me telling me that I need to apologize to him right away. But look where my "I'm sorry" just got me.
