In order to keep the balance, the ruling gods decided to choose a [Successor] to fill up the empty seat left by the missing Domain Lord who previously governed over the Demon Continent.

After so much negotiation and compromise, they finally reached a verdict. A few conditions were placed; the [Successor] must have an overwhelmingly bright white soul and have been a denizen of their world in their previous lifetime. Of course, being a famed figure (hero) in their lifetime was a bonus condition. After stacking these conditions, they finally found a match.

There was supposed to be only one candidate, but just as expected of white souls; they were able to attract similarly white, albeit smaller, souls and carry them over.

Just like that, four people were received instead of the original one.

“How fun! How interesting!” The gods clamoured. They were indeed very excited to see who would end up becoming the winner. Even the damned ‘Demon Lord’ that they were trying to purge seemed to have a significant chance in winning. But alas, the candidate was one favoured by the [Judge], the Goddess of Karma herself, so it was obvious that the Demon Lord’s struggle was futile.

The gods laughed at the humans’ foolishness.

The god candidate obviously had the brightest soul of them all, but they chose to discard him and sided with the pitifully dim white souls instead. It was lucky that he had been able to meet with the [Judge] so quickly after being summoned.

That was one less work for the spectating gods.

“Oh? Looks like She’s made her move.” One of the spectators remarked.

“This light… This feeling… It’s him.” A god gasped, their tone sounding rather moved.

“Your most blessed and most beloved mortal has returned, huh?”

“That [Legendary Hero], Cyril Burnigsteid…”

“So he’s the one who will join our ranks, then…?”

“””How amusing~””” The gods cackled.

Together, they gathered around the images flashing on the body of water, raptly watching the scenes with renewed vigor.
