I let out a breath in relief as I exited my meditation, I could instantly tell, using the method of loci had relieved almost all the pain I had felt coming from my head. Letting out a groan as I stood up, stretching my stiff body. I noticed five hours had passed since I first entered meditation. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it felt like an eternity, but time is experienced differently in your own head.
The glow of a small blue dome with a note on it caught my eye. Going over to the desk, reading the note from Daphnia, it read.
I know you wanted to be alone to process everything that happened today, but you should still eat something. So I had Mancin send this over, I hope you like and have a good night. The stasis field will break when you reach for the plate, so don't let it sit too long afterward or it will get cold.
P.S just so you know, Madison will most likely be coming to bother you tomorrow morning.
Steam wafted off the plate of food, as my hand went through the blue dome. Deciding to listen to Daphnia advice, I took a seat at the desk. Plus the food looked and smelled amazing, I thought. As I stared at the diced potatoes, green squash and chunks of what looked like pork. I felt the saliva start to collect in my mouth, undoing the third seal, and doing mental work. Must be more physically taxing than I thought.
Digging in, It didn't take me long to polish that off, I thought, leaning back in the chair Letting out a content sigh. Feeling more energized than I expected, I decided to try my hand at forming my first spell matrix. I just can't resist the thought of truly casting a spell for the first time. I admit I'm a little giddy, ever since I saw Daphnia do magic

I've wanted to do it too. Could be the feeling of actually being able to see mana but something about it just calls to me.
Heading back towards my bed, taking a more classic meditation pose. Resting the back of my hands on my knees, beginning to breathe. Following the same breathing mantra that I used before, after a few minutes, I felt myself fall into my body. Taking some time to stabilize my awareness. I decided to try out a hunch I had, instead of looking for a calm spot where the mana flowing inside me wasn't so volatile. Like I did when I was condensing the three-pronged runes. I would start the process of building my first spell matrix, wherever my awareness first landed.
Taking in the view of the mana surrounding my awareness, as it flowed everywhere. I began to condense runes, Using the method of loci. It was easy to picture, all the runes I needed for the levitate spell matrix. The runic images appeared one after another until I had almost a hundred floating around my awareness. Once again using the method of loci, it was to easy to recall. The exact positions I needed to place the runes at.
Watching the runes float around, as I willed them to their correct positions. When the final rune came to a stop, using my awareness. I when over the outlined spell matrix just to make sure everything was in the right spot. I began to fold in the mana much like I did with the three-pronged rune and it was just as easy. Smiling in satisfaction as the spell matrix began to glow as mana filled it up. The blue glow of the runes kept getting bright as more and more mana pooled into them.
I had only a few seconds of warning that something was wrong. Before the spell matrix collapsed, releasing a bright flash as it disappeared. Letting out a muffled shout in shock, as I came out of my meditation. Gently rubbing my watering eyes, what could have gone wrong. I know I pictured the runic images correctly, I'd even say perfectly, I thought. Deciding to hold off on making another attempt at forming another spell matrix.

Looking at the time, it had only been twenty minutes since I started to meditate, twenty minutes wasted. But at least I tried my hunch, and I'm pretty sure my talent makes it easier for me to make spell matrixes. Clearing my mind, I began to center my breathing, I felt an airy feeling tingle along my skin. As my awareness entered my projection, in my mind palace.
Diving back into the upside-down pyramid, I began to search for answers. On what I could have done wrong. Or at least what could have caused my spell matrix to collapse, so close to completion. I'm not actually sure how I found it, I think mostly by luck, I mean it's so minuscule. That the fact that you have to fill each runic image up separately and then connect them into the form of the spell matrix. Exiting my mind palace, I noticed I'd spent two hours in there trying to find an answer. Should I get some sleep and try again tomorrow or should I just give it another shot tonight? Choices, choices I thought.

Wildling
Blurb: Silas--a scavenger living off the ruins of humanity--has spent his entire life fighting tooth and nail to provide for himself and his crew. But when a scavenging run goes awry and he's snatched up by an android patrol, he finds himself thrown into a cage and priced to sell as a pet. And when a suitor comes calling, he fears the worst: that he'll be turned into a Domestic, a human lapdog brainwashed into total obedience. Instead, he discovers an equally disturbing truth: that the creatures who stole his world have created a videogame the likes of which Earth has never seen; a sprawling, game-like theme park where humans are the Avatars and androids are the players who control them. And to make matters worse, his android guide is as hopeless as they come, having gotten all of her previous Avatars killed in record time. So if Silas wants to regain his freedom, he'll not only have to fight his way through a world that was specifically designed to murder him in brutal fashion--he'll also have to convince his android guide that he should be the one calling the shots. FAQS: Q: Who are you, handsome stranger? A: I'm Kyle Kirrin, the author of Shadeslinger, book 1 of The Ripple System, published by Portal Books, and I write crunchy LitRPG. Q: What is Wildling? And is it complete? A: Wildling is a crunchy LitRPG mash up of Fantasy and Science Fiction. And yup, Wildling is already complete at 64 chapters, or about 120,000 thousand words. You're looking at something like a third draft here--it's fairly polished, but it hasn't been picked over by a copy editor yet nor has my developmental editor seen it. Q: Upload schedule? A: 5 initial chapters today (2/15/2021) and one chapter a day for the next month. After that I'll probably slow down to 2 or 3 chapters a week until the story is complete. Q: How crunchy is it? A: It's pretty crunchy. I'd put it on the same tier as Ascend/The Land/RSSG, but it might be a bit crunchier than those three? Q: Is this the first book in a series or a web novel or what? And what are your plans for it? A: It's currently a standalone with series potential. Full disclosure: this story may head the way of my publisher eventually, but will be available on RR for quite a while no matter what. Likely several months after it's complete with plenty of warning before/if it's taken down. Q: What kind of build does the MC create? A: Sword and board! Q: Crafting? A: Plenty! Crafting isn't as center stage as it is in The Way of the Shaman, but it's close. Q: Base building? A: Two fully separate, distinct bases, both of which play a major role in the story. Q: VRMMO? Portal? Reincarnation or what? A: This one's a bit tricky. Basically an advanced race has created a game-like world that closely resembles a theme park. Think Westworld but with copious amounts of loot. And the MC has to fight his way through that to earn his freedom. Q: Permadeath? A: Nope! The MC gets 3 lives to play through the entirety of the game world, and death is extremely punishing, but not fatal. Q: Harem? Or romance? A: No and no. Q: Cursing? Blood? A: Quite a bit of cursing, yeah. There's blood, too, but it's not a gory book by any means. Q: How can I support? A: Instead of a Patreon/donations etc, I'd ask that you consider giving my debut LitRPG Shadeslinger a chance. It's free on Kindle Unlimited and the audio is already out narrated by Travis Baldree. It's an epic fantasy VRMMO where the main character gets 3 days of exclusive access to a new game plus a snarky, talking axe to guide him through it in exchange for agreeing to become the target of a serverwide manhunt once the Head Start period ends. Q: How's it similar to Wildling? And how's it different? A. The crunch level is very similar, but Shadeslinger is a much lighter, epic fantasy take on the genre. It's also VRMMO, but without any real world components aside from the first chapter. The MC is very different--he comes off as a bit of a jerk early on and can take a bit to warm up to, especially before his backstory is revealed--but he's also got a talking axe that constantly puts him in his place. Shadeslinger's a much more humorous story in general, and it's a great deal more polished as well. Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy Wildling!

Polaris Dark
This is not the most expensive nor the first VRMMORPG of the third decade in the twenty-first century. [The Millennium Ascedency], otherwise known simply known as ""Ascendency"" to the public, became the number one game in the Japanese gaming community within three months. Soon after, the world joins in on the action, bringing it to the spotlight in the entertainment sector and is the reigning champion of popularity two years after the launch. Both men and women are into this game, both casual and professional players can be found... So what will happen when a curious young girl encounters this game without the intention to play? Will she become another gamer that is lost in the masses or will she prove to be someone that changes the VR world forever? [This is rated 18+ for blood, gore, suggestive content, sexual violence, coarse language and other mature content not intended for a younger audience. Please don't ignore this warning and then complain that you are offended by the content, it just doesn't work that way.] [All scenes that contains explicit sexual content will be placed into spoilers as a precautionary measure.] [Unfortunately, there have been too many Virtual Reality Stories as well as those that have elements of gaming. At this point, my wish for something more unique has pretty much gone down the drain. I will have to put this on story on an indefinite hiatus until the popularity of the Virtual Reality Stories has gone down or else this story may get fully dropped. I sincerely apologize for those who liked the story and wish for it to continue.] >>> I am currently working on a new story that is of another genre. It is at the planning stage right now so it is not an official announcment for a new story.

The Gambit of the Gods
Tony ain't nobody's bitch. Or at least he wasn't in Downtown Las Vegas where he worked for people doing things that aren't legal in any sense of the word. Rooms of the Desolate
Rooms of the Desolate is a collection of short stories designed to guide the reader through the many rooms and mysteries of the bleak and greyscale labyrinth of the Desolate. The first entry, "The Forever Tower" follows an unnamed wanderer climbing an endless, colourless tower; the only world they have ever known. As they slowly ascend alongside the masses, they consider the nature of their world and look to the corridors as temptation beckons. The second entry, "Production Line", follows an engineer in a boundless factory, who encounters a product that does not wish to bow to the overseers and makes them question their belief in the truth and duties they were made to believe. Content guidelines: Current entries do not include explicit profanity, but future entries may do so, hence the presence of that tag. Some entries do include gore and violence, though not currently to particularly extreme degrees. The Desolate is exactly that: a desolate world; as such, it is bleak, downtrodden, and may deal with mental struggles. Cover art credit: Adam Borkowski on Pexels.
